What our customers say about their holidays

    • Toby - Verified booking

      The house was OK.

Clean and basic facilities. It was dingy and claustrophobic - one window at the front obscured by an overgrown bush, and one at the back in the kitchen. No windows up stairs, only roof lights. The place welcomes pets (we don't have any), but had a bit of a musty smell of wet dog. There's shelves in the living room well stocked with books etc, but this gave the impression of being cluttered. There's lots of pictures on the walls at odd places, looking behind these cover dents/marks in the wall. No usable outside space - There was a back garden but no access to it - the only access being via the side and back of the row of properties, which was not at all practical. There's a bench at the front facing an overgrown bush and overgrown brambles. Facilities were basic - no washing machine or dish washer. Parking wasn't ideal. There are spaces more or less in front of the property which is fine, if they are available. More than once these were all taken and we had to park at the other end of the site (by the refuse/recycling bins). There is a hotel on the side with restaurant and pool. We didn't use these facilities, the weather wasn't quite good enough for the outside pool and there are plenty of nice restaurants in the area to try. Charmouth, Lyme Regis, and the Jurassic coast is a lovely area. If you're loking for somewhere basic, then this is fine. Would we recommend it, not really, unfortunately, I am sure there are better properties for the price to rent in the area.

Whilst the let was on the surface neat and tidy as an elderly couple with a dog couldn't recommend it the sofa was extremely uncomfortable the two recliners were comfy but too low I spent the entire holiday sitting on a dining chair the beds were too cramped apart from the double the lack of fresh air in the bedrooms we found stifling and so sleep wasn't good shower and bath good toilets child sized and very poorly situated like the downstairs sink why put it opposite the hot dryer rail bend over and you burn your backside when washing your face the outside garden I'm not sure that was described accurately it was unusable no access from house you have to walk round the row of houses up a steep slippery overgrown path get in the garden (I use garden loosely) to the deck which may be classed as fit for use but we didn't use it once car parking didn't get use of it once during the holiday description of waste disposal also needs addressed better our verdict will be don't use to anyone

I emailed you from the cottage.

Incredibly dissatisfied with the location and condition. Had we known it was right next to the A35 we would not have booked. Two nights unable to sleep due to the incessant noise from cars speeding down the A35, it went on throughout the night. Mould in the bathroom and a general air of neglect. The general state of the cottage left a lot to be desired. Has anyone from Sykes been to check it out.....? We have an annex at our Hampshire home and consistently get 10 out of 10 from guests, Barton cottage would rate three at best on our scale Will not be recommending this to anyone, Its an incredible disappointment given that it was a 60th birthday surprise for me fiancé. Someone from your company needs to visit this cottage and ask themselves would they pay the amount we have paid. Is there a way of sending pictures of mould, please advise We feel cheated and feel a refund would be appropriate Sincerely

We chose Cowdea Cottage for the location and were not disappointed.

Not only is it in a beautiful part of the world but access to many other places is easy and close by. The cottage is spacious and well equipped, with good wifi and phone access. We found the furnishings a bit dated - not our style - but this was easy to overlook, sitting in the sunroom or the garden, looking across the meadow, hearing the birds. We did not find any walks in the immediate vicinity and the road was busy with locals and farm vehicles, so not easy to walk. But a short drive away in Bettiscombe you could park at the Community Centre and follow the trails. The owners were friendly and helpful and despite living in the adjoining farmhouse, kept their distance and gave us our privacy. A wonderful tranquil and restful spot.

I should of read the listing more closely and I would of realised that the cottage was on two levels.

I have a spine injury that makes stairs very difficult and painful for me so I probably would not of booked it. This is not the cottage fault but me not taking enough time over the advert. The cottage itself is finished to a very good standard, with a modern kitchen and ground floor toilet and shower room. It is a bit tight on space in places but for the two of us it was perfectly OK. The main road that you have to cross to turn into the property if you are coming from Bridport is a bit of a challenge as it is busy with fast traffic, in fact i drove past to where the dual carriageway started and there is a slip road to turn right which I found safer. Overall the cottage is of a good standard and well maintained.
