What our customers say about their holidays

      Positives: A beautiful house.

Spacious downstairs living/dining area. Well equipped kitchen, dishwasher a bonus! Garden was stunning with excellent seating area. Plenty of room for the 5 of us and great space for our 3 year old to move around. Wonderful views from the two back bedrooms over the hills and bonus that the very top room has a small view of the sea! Downstairs bathroom was good. Shops, fish and chip shop and beach all within close reach. Having a dedicated parking spot was very handy. The welcome pack was a lovely touch. Having a dvd player with dvds available was helpful for keeping our little one busy when we were tired from the day. Lots of information and helpful booklets/leaflets everywhere. Plenty of wardrobe space. Negatives: The beds in the two double bedrooms were really very small and not comfortable. The pillows were also quite lumpy, which I think is probably from over washing. The curtains were incredibly thin so the rooms were very bright very early. The two couples in the double rooms didn’t sleep well for the entire holiday. Things for people to consider: The house is on the main road into Charmouth and it is very busy. At night time, when buses and lorries go past these can be heard clearly and also make the upmost bedroom seem to ‘shake’. The house probably isn’t suitable for elderly people due to steps down into the kitchen, bathroom and grass/garden, as well as the steep and narrow steps up to the top bedroom. The ceiling height in the top bedroom is quite low so you have to duck in places. The walk down to the beach is easy but Charmouth is on a hill so the walk back, especially if you have little ones, is really arduous.

We stayed here for 4 nights, 2 adults and 2 kids (8 & 6) and our dog.

It's a lovely little cottage and was so clean and we were treated with a lovely welcome pack with tea coffee and biscuits etc which was such a nice touch. The kitchen has everything we needed including washing up liquid/ cleaning sprays etc. The bedrooms were very clean and comfortable with plenty of wardrobe/drawer space to store clothes etc. The only 2 things i would say that i would change about this property was, the living room only had one 2 seater sofa and 2 single wooden chairs, unlike the photos which show two 2 seater sofas and 2 wooden chairs. For a family of 4 we didn't feel one small 2 seater sofa was enough, especially as my husband is over 6 foot and took up practically the whole sofa. I'd probably swap the 2 wooden chairs for another 2 seater sofa to make it a bit more cosy. The second thing is that the listing states that the property had an 'enclosed garden'. Which it does have, but the fence at the top of the garden is only about 15cm tall, so when letting my dog out in the garden for the first time, I was quite surprised to look up and see him looking at me excitedly from the next door garden! Thankfully he has excellent recall so came straight back on command, but for anyone with young kids or dogs more than a few inches tall, there's not a lot to stop kids and dogs going over to the next door garden. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here, and found the 5 minute drive to charmouth beach really handy, also a 5 minute drive to Lyme Regis bitg both of which had plenty of parking.

We found dolphins leap easily and arrived after dark.

Follow the website instructions (take right fork on old lyme hill), then after the last street light on the right it is 5 properties further up on the left. Our cars headlights picked up the dolphins leap sign on the front garden retaining wall easily. My partner has worked in the cleaning industry for 30 years and specialises in finding important areas which havent been cleaned. There are none at dolphins leap. The welcome pack is generous, best i've ever had and even included treats for our dog. The bungalow itself has central heating and a log burner. We visited in November and did not need to light the fire as the main central heating kept us warm, even in the conservatory, which has sea views. It is one of the best rental properties i have used. Theres a TV and dvd player (we didnt use them as we dont go on holiday to watch TV), plenty of games, books, local maps and even a pool/snooker table. Charmouth beach is walkable which our dog loved. It is on a hill, however the gradient on the left fork of old lyme hill is shallower and it joins the right fork at the top, so we walked that way back to the property from the Royal Oak, which has great beer, food, allows dogs and is far more reasonably priced that the pubs in lyme regis. Lyme Regis itself is only a 10 minute drive and there are many other places of interest to visit all within 30 mins. Its a great base to explore the jurassic coast. We loved it and will return in the future

Such a lovely place to stay.

From the perfectly assembled welcome pack on arrival to the amazing location on the cliffs above Charmouth, we really couldn't fault our stay at Dolphins Leap, apart from not seeing any dolphins. The property is exactly as advertised and has a very secure garden for our four legged member of the family. The very large and comfortable conservatory offers amazing views of Charmouth and the coastline to the East. Two large bathrooms, which are well lit, are great for families. The large selection of books, board games, jigsaws and pool table are also a great bonus for when the weather isn’t so good. There’s a lovely walk right outside the front door which takes you along the cliff tops towards Lyme Regis, although is rather steep going in places. We would definitely recommend the fish and chip shop in Charmouth, although placing your order on line early in the morning is recommended. The Royal Oak pub in Charmouth is very dog friendly but rather small so book your table early if you want to eat there. We would definitely recommend the Sunday lunch which was delicious. The staff are also very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, extra jugs of gravy supplied when asked for. The owner wasn’t able to visit us during our stay but texted us to make sure everything was ok, which was nice. We would definitely look to stop here again at some point in the future.

On arrival we found the Chalet was presented in a pleasant manner.

On using the kitchen we found it to be very claustraphobic with a counter top freezer with a micro wave oven sitting on the top taking up a third of the already limited work space. On sitting down on the sofa we found dirty used tissues that had been stuffed down the side cushions. On unpacking our supplies we found that all the cupboards were full of equipment and seemed to be stocked for 8 to 10 people. The fridge did not have a bulb which made it awkward to see inside. The TV service kept switching off every so often. On going upstairs we found there was no rail on the right side, ( being 75 and 72 we found this a little worrying as to safety. We found dirty tissues ( which we have left ) under the head end of the bed. We could not open the shylight and it was very dirty. Whilst reading the welcome book it stated that NO VISITORS WERE ALLOWED. What we could not work out was why there was enough cutlery and glasses and crockery for 12 people. Having no dishwasher the used crockery etc had to be washed up .when used.. We have holidayed at Fernhill since 1990 ish and have stayed in different Chalets. The site seems to now be occupied by owners and is not in the best upkeep that it could be. Lyme Bay staff were again outstanding. There to help in all cases 10 out of 10. We have photos of all our concerns, we would stay at Fernhill again but not at No 44.
