    Shaftesbury Holiday Cottages

Shaftesbury is a sweet little market town in Dorset with a rich history reaching back to Saxon times. It is also known as Dorset's oldest and highest town. You may recognise its iconic landmark Gold Hill: so steep that you might want to pull yourself up using the handrail, but well worth the climb as the view from the top is breath-taking. For a free excursion, walkthrough medieval walled gardens and an orchard to view the remains of  Shaftesbury Abbey, before visiting the Shaftesbury Abbey Museum to learn more about its history.

Shopaholics will be delighted with Shaftesbury, with its High Street bursting with small, independent shops. Shop like a local and head for the narrow side streets and tucked-away courtyards. There are also plenty of cafes offering both scenic views and traditional Dorset cream teas.

At Snaptrip, we offer thousands of properties, backed by our best price guarantee, making us the smart choice when booking your dream holiday cottage in Shaftesbury. You can use Snaptrip's filter option to help you choose between holiday cottages that tick all your boxes, whether you're looking for a games room, a log-burning fire or an enclosed garden. What our customers say about their holidays

The Cider Press We really enjoyed our week’s stay at the Cider Press, Coppleridge and wish it could have been longer!

The well laid out property, all on one level, was beautifully clean and attractive. The beds, the sofa and chair were really comfortable. The heated towel rail meant the bathroom and the thick white towels provided were warm when one emerged from enjoying a powerful and invigorating shower. Everything we needed for a happy visit was provided including milk, tea, coffee and biscuits to welcome us after our long journey. The parking was excellent and the setting in the countryside meant it was quiet and peaceful. Having a pub, The Coppleridge Inn, hosted by a friendly landlord, that served food, just steps away, was very convenient. The property was well sited close to Shaftesbury a pleasing market town. We had easy access to a great many attractions further afield, and driving through the glorious scenery to reach them added to our delight. Top of the list of National Trust venues we visited was Kingston Lacy. Set in beautiful gardens, it is filled with fabulous paintings and treasures, and manned by superb volunteer room guides. Among the many other places we enjoyed were Tintinhull Gardens, Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door… oh and Lyme Regis which completely won my heart. From being comfortable at the house to enjoying exploring the area we think is the place to stay is the Cider Press and thoroughly recommend it. Maureen

For a luxury price and 4 stars the cottage was in need of plenty tlc.

In no particular order: 1.We left three phone messages before arrival, as encouraged by Sykes, which were not returned 2. The property was cold even with the underfloor heating on, especially after rain, watched tv with duvet! 3. The boiler is in the main bedroom and woke us up everytime someone used the loo, the neighbours used any water and when the heating came on 4. We used two of the three bedrooms and wifi did not work in either room 5. Generally not clean, mould in bathroom, loo had to scrubbed and bleached to remove dirt in the bowl 6. Towels awful! Had to go out and buy towels 7. Kitchen cups and plates chipped. Had to ask to have 3hr delay on dishwasher reset 8. Frying pans surfaces coming off on all the pans 9. Despite being dog friendly unable to control their dog, which had a go at our dog 10. The linking cottage is not soundproof despite assurances it would be 11. The chickens had pulled out all the manure along the path, we were advised it would be removed but it wasn't and we had to step round for the 8 days, trickier in the rain and the dark, the dog found it harder to avoid the manure .... This is the first bad review I have ever written. My partner and I both have our own businesses and know how hard it can be but feel we would be failing others not to say something.

The Cider Press is a really lovely place to stay.

It has everything you would want for a great holiday - a well-equipped kitchen, abundant hot water, comfortable beds, lots of fluffy white towels, cosy warm sitting room, fast wi-fI, very attractive decor inside and a generous outside space. Caroline and Rupert made us feel so welcome and are very thoughtful. We really appreciated the tea and biscuits that greeted us on arrival after a hot drive from London, all the leaflets about things to do in the area, and their advice, tips and directions. The Cider Press is in a brilliant location, only 3 miles from Shaftesbury which is a beautiful English town, close to several stunning National Trust properties, not far from the amazing Dorset costline, AND right opposite a pub which has a fabulous view from the outside terrace. We will definitely be going back.

Property situation quite remote (this was a plus for us) and adequately sized for our party.

Unfortunately there were only 2 double beds available not 3 as advertised we spoke to our host and was told no it was a twin - the equipment in the kitchen was old/tired, minimal and not clean - the picture appears to be it's original conversion and doesn't reflect the property now which has not been updated and is looking a bit tired. Overall we enjoyed our stay, we loved the surroundings, farm activity, and watching the beautiful variety of wild birds. The hosts were available but non invasive and easy going (Quentin, didn't see Maggie), Charlie their dog was hilarious he kept us entertained for hours and the free range eggs available to buy were amazing!! - we would definitely stay again if in the area.

First, there was an over booking so we did not get the tractor shed so we ended up in the milking parlour.

This was 3 beds. It had its own garden and should have been perfect. The main complaint was hygiene. In present pandemic situation it was appaling to see the slap dash way this was cleaned. There was fluff behind doors where floors not cleaned behind doors. The kitchen was the worst. Oven filthy and fridge still had remains of food from previous occupiers. Crumbs and bits of food in the only storage place inside. There were no shelves. The ice box was full and there were bags of things that we had no idea what it was including meat of some kind. There was dirty marks on doors that had not been cleaned. Had we not been vaccinated we would have left.
