    Holiday cottages in Chideock

Nestled between Lyme Regis and Bridport and within a nationally recognised Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), the small village of Chideock has lots to offer for those looking to escape on a scenic and relaxing break.

Chideock is surrounded by farmed land, sea views and cliff faces, as well as green fields dotted with cob and sandstone cottages, many with the traditional thatched roofs so favoured by the British countryside community. Indeed, it's not uncommon to find treasure along the coast here — with several fossilised ammonites already uncovered by enthusiasts this year. And talking of treasure, the village's highest point, the High Golden Cap, was used as a lookout post by notorious smugglers from the area in the 18th century.

If you're a family of history buffs, why not choose a cottage with ample parking and a view of the local castle ruins. And if you're done lounging in one of the large gardens we have to offer, maybe take a tour of the Chideock House Hotel, which was used by General Fairfax to plan his siege of the castle. Snaptrip has a whole host of bookable holiday cottages in Chideock, including homes with hot tubs, fire pits and sea views. So take your pick and book online today!

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Alastair - Verified booking

A gorgeous setting in a superb location.

Not having Wi-Fi/signal was a godsend and three young boys (2/4/6) had great fun playing tag/rugby/football passing in the garden. Unfortunately the holiday was let down by a few major points: a ridiculously small downstairs bed; a kettle that didn't work 95% of the time, the remaining 5% requiring you to hold the button down; a shower head blocked with limescale and pinched hose held together with electrical tape; electrical tape used to hold the bulb holder of a bedside lamp together; and an very strong smell of damp. We own an 18th century cottage and appreciate that whilst a certain level of dampness is to be expected within a property of this age the level within St Gabriel’s was excessive. The bedding felt constantly 'damp' and clammy, clothes felt damp when left out overnight and a leather handbag strap went mouldy inside of a week. Not to mention the effect on bread and other perishable food. I’m not sure whether there was an extended duration between the previous guests and ourselves but the smell was very strong and the walls visibly damp. Crumbs in the breadbin, a half-finished bottle of open ketchup, hair in the shower and general grit/grass on the floor on arrival suggested a lacklustre approach to cleaning. There should be mention of the smaller-than-standard-double sized bed which even without a pregnant wife was completely unsuitable in this day and age; it felt like the desire to cram two bedside tables in had led to that decision yet in reality all that happened when you decided to try not sleeping on your side was that you ended up headbutting one of the very sharp corners. That said, it was a nice week and the cottage is in a wonderful setting.

Very comfortable and cosy holiday accommodation.

Hosts live next door but you would never notice in that they are never intrusive. No noise travels through adjoining wall and they clearly put a lot of effort into making sure guests feel welcome on arrival. The property is well maintained and a small maintenance issue was fixed immediately upon reporting - which would never happen if the hosts didn't live next door! Hot water and heating timings are controlled by property owner but hosts mention on arrival/key handover that timings can easily be modified to guests requirements and there is a heating thermostat in the property. I hate being cold but we had no issues at all in a very wet and chilly February week. Comfortable mattress and sofa and a solid kitchen table and good internet. Farm shop just down the road and lots to see and do in the area. I can thoroughly recommend High Bullen Cottage. (High Bullen Lodge is also available for rent and situated just behind the main house) . Thank you to the hosts for a very enjoyable stay. (My only nitpicky comment would be please could you put in another couple of mugs? My suspicion here is that there may have been previous unreported breakages because everything else in the kitchen was absolutely tip top including quality sharp knives which is almost unheard of in a holiday rental)

The Wave is a very special place and the location is absolutely wonderful…we have stayed twice and really love it…however, it’s a great property that could be exceptional with a few improvements.

Both of our visits have resulted in us taking on some amount of cleaning ourselves. The thing that makes the Wave brilliant is the view…but the windows/bi fold doors were dirty. There were quite a few corners and surfaces which had obviously been overlooked. It would be helpful if there was at least some milk on arrival and a spare loo roll in the bathroom…seems a little mean. The downstairs double bedroom bed has a headboard that isn’t attached to the bed…also in this bedroom the fridge is so noisy in the kitchen it definitely impacts on sleep quality. The living room is okay but of course it’s difficult to watch the small TV without rearranging the furniture…and understand the geography of the room dictating this issue but on rainy days or winter nights it would be nice to watch TV in comfort. Sorry to have to bring these things to light and it is such a shame as a few changes to the upkeep could make a huge difference and there are so many positives that still make this an exceptional place and you really cannot beat where it is.

      Stunning little cottage.

Absolutely loved our stay here and would recommend it to anybody. The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing getaway. Super cosy and the garden is great bonus, perfect for sunbathing and watching the birds. Some lovely walks right on the doorstep; Thorncombe beacon (can be seen from the garden) is short, steep but very rewarding, amazing views! Also had a few days walking to westbay, then carried on along beneath the cliff. Plenty of really good eating and drinking places locally. Rise for breakfast and the Watchhouse for amazing seafood both in Westbay. Lyme bay and the Pilot in Lyme Regis were also lovely for lunches. Felicity's farm shop has some great local produce to enjoy back at the cottage. Luckily only had one day of rain, which was spent having a nose around Bridport (markets on Wednesday and Saturday). Thank you for our stay, we look forward to coming back some time in the future

We have enjoyed staying in many attractive country cottages over he years - but Hope Cottage stands out as one of the best, thanks to it perfect combination of comfort, character and location. Hope's bright and spacious interior has been wonderfully appointed and furnished with impeccable tate - with many delightful quirky touches that add to the overall ambience. Best of all are the unforgettable views stretching for miles across the rolling Dorset countryside. The most lasting impression of all will always be the delightful terraced garden sloping down from the cottage to a tree. The most lasting impression of all will always be the delightful terraced garden, sloping down from the cottage to the tree. Framed backdrops of meadows, woods and hills extending to the horizon. In short, Ryall Hope was for us, the Perfect 'Dorset Hideaway' and one that we shall long remember!
