What our customers say about their holidays

    • Nicholas - Verified booking

Our second stay at Sleepy Hollow.

Everything is nicely laid out and clean. The bed is very comfortable and the linen nice and fresh including the fluffy towels. The kitchen is well equipped and plenty of cutlery and crockery and a very nice welcome hamper including eggs, bread, local drinks, local crisps and fresh milk. There is tea, coffee and sugar available too in the caddies. Nice touch having the coffee machine! Another nice touch is the hand written chalkboard welcoming you and in our case welcoming both of us and the dog back…loved that. The only down side for us was the gate…we weren’t able to shut it and so letting our dog out was always a worry as there are a number of dog walkers and horse riders. The drive is tight, but then we do have a big car and getting in at night was always a little un-nerving as no light at the side to aid reverse parking however, once you’d done it a few times it’s easier! A nice table and chairs to sit out at and enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside that surrounds Sleepy Hollow. Marcus and Anne are lovely and always pop over (once) to say hello and then leave you to enjoy your break but are always around in their separate property next door. Only other thing to mention for feedback is the shower. Although the shower is huge (and very clean) the water pressure is very low. None of our critique would be enough to deter a return visit by us as it is such a lovely place and is also convenient for us location and peaceful wise too! A couple of minor changes (aforementioned) would make this place 100% perfect. Thanks both and we look forward to seeing you again.

We had quite a short stay really .

Not long enough quite honestly The property is lovely and we were met by Abi who is the perfect host and gave us all the guidance we needed. She is the kind of person you warm to immediately A couple of nice touches too Some gorgeous eggs which have to be the best eggs ever and a lovely cake which went down well with a coffee. The property has an ambience about it which my wife Jen commented on as soon as we were in and settled .It has a natural karma about it which was tangible. You know when a place feels right ,and this absolutely did It is quirky which adds to the charm .Its comfortable ,has everything you need if you went down the self catering route. We ate out mostly .We recommend the Lantern just up the road .Would have walked but it was a little damp that evening .The following day was better with sunshine so it made up for it . The garden is beautiful so when we're back it is definitely a place we'll spend with a good book. The location is so quiet save a few farm vehicles and there is absolutely no light pollution . Little Yaffle has to be up there with the best of them Abi will explain where the name little Yaffle came from .We had no idea Don't google it .Abi's explanation is much more interesting . Don't alter anything Abi.We loved it. Till next time x Trevor and Jennifer from Essex ( near Maldon)

This was an excellent stay at Sleepy Hollow & Anne & Marcus were genial hosts.

There are no difficulties with the accommodation which was ample for the two of us and our dog & everywhere was neat & tidy and was left in the same condition. Not everything will suit all customers and the lack of WiFi + terrible TV signal may disappoint some. The second part of the name of the cottage gives it away though! Parking was a cause for concern on day 1 but, after that, I got the hang of bending the car onto that narrowest of roads. The mini hamper was a lovely touch & very welcome. The village of Lydden is 1.75 miles away and we rediscovered The Lydden Bell which is fabulous but you might need to book 24hrs in advance to bag a table. The food is delicious and the staff are also very engaging. So, as long as you are happy to catch up on the news by reading the newspaper next day and don’t want to be disturbed by telephone calls, this could well be the place for you to relax, with cows grazing in the adjacent field, walks aplenty from the door and dark, dark nights in a very comfortable bed. I recommend it unreservedly.

Yes this place is in a very quiet village but be prepared for the local agricultural noise associated with the countryside.

Thankfully the garden is secured away from the road (excellent for a dog), as is the parking, because the huge tractors that rumbled past on and off during the day will open your eyes. There is a limited amount of dog walking area locally but the spinney and unofficial "paths" make for enough dog exercise. As there are no shops in the immediate vicinity, be prepared to take some food items with you (15 mins to large shops). The property owner Abbi was lovely and very helpful and the supplies left by her made my stay enjoyable. The village is quite small and pretty much the only facility there is The Lantern Pub.... definitely worth the visit, a little pricey but the food and drink is excellent. Be prepared, take wellies if you want to walk as it is a very rural area and the roads are quite narrow and the tracks are quite muddy...all in all, no complaints.

A lovely quiet location which is just what we needed.

We wanted to get away for the weekend, away from all the fireworks in London and this did the trick, apart from a few on the actual 5th November whereas at home we would have been suffering them all weekend. The property is lovely, very well equipped. Cosy and comfortable. Although along with the remoteness comes the issue of mobile signal and wi-fi dropping out occasionally but don't let that put you off this location. We weren't lucky with the weather but there is plenty of places to walk with your dog. And some great local pubs that have good food. For a quiet undisturbed getaway we would certainly recommend this property. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise and very much appreciated. Huge thanks to the owners for making us so welcome.
