    Dunwich Holiday Cottages

Dunwich, nestled on the Suffolk coast, is a charming and quiet rural village. One of the biggest draws of this town is the ruins of the medieval port and priory, much of which has been lost to the sea. Dunwich Heath holds all you could want for walking and cycling, and you'll find plenty of wildlife at the nearby RSPB Minsmere. After a long day, enjoy the fresh seasonal menu at The Ship Inn or have a drink overlooking the sea at The 12 Lost Churches.

We hand-pick our Dunwich holiday cottages for their charm and character. You'll find spacious barn conversions and farmhouses with relaxed open-plan living areas for large groups. If you want something more intimate, try our range of romantic cabins and cottages with open fireplaces and hot tubs. We also have dog-friendly cottages with easy access to all the best walking routes.

At Snaptrip, we offer thousands of UK holiday cottages, all backed by our best price guarantee. Use our search filters to find your ideal holiday cottage in Dunwich and rest assured that our friendly customer service team are always on hand to help.

What our customers say about their holidays

Our third visit to this beautifully located house, with a well sized garden (although the upper lawn doesn’t seem to be maintained as shown in the photo anymore).

The size and layout of the house is excellent and suits us very well when we visit with adult children and their partners. It’s a very social house, and we had a lovely time. We’ll be back again, I’m sure. Nevertheless, we were worried to see the general maintenance is slipping and that it’s been a recurrent theme in the feedback this year: the oven door popped open when in use which can’t be safe; the chain on the plug in the en-suite bathroom was broken last time we stayed and was there even less of it this time making it hard to remove; the roof of the wood burner fell into the logs although I think I managed to get it back onto its retaining tracks well enough; and the general decor as mentioned by others is in desperate need of touching up. The hallway ceiling looks a little ominous on arrival, and sets the tone - one then starts noticing other scuffs and scrapes. External paintwork is peeling and possibly rotting too. One last point whilst writing - I’m not entirely sold on the idea that both having to be out by 10am AND requesting guest to strip beds into the sacks provided creates the right impression. We generally strip beds in order to be helpful but feeling obligated to do so is - somehow - emotionally different. We did manage to do it, but felt rushed as we left which is a negative way to leave an otherwise very restful few days.

The location of the property was ideal for a group of friends getting together to celebrate New Year.

The layout is also ideal as the ground floor flows meaning you can be in the lounge but also in earshot of those in the kitchen. The property however, is in need of some refurbishment and in particular the bedrooms and en-suites. We were in one of the upstairs bedrooms and the en-suite not only smelt musty but the toilet seat was broken as was a toilet roll holder in the downstairs bathroom. I had previously asked about hairdryers and been told there were 2 at the beginning of the season. I only found 1 (there may have been another one somewhere) but nowadays this is an expected item in all bedrooms. There has obviously been a leak as there is a large water stain area on the ceiling in the entrance hall. Not a very nice welcome. We were unable to open either of the french doors off the dining area and the windows were filthy. The oven whilst clean inside was not on the outside and it would be useful to only have saucepans which actually work on the induction hob. Paintwork generally is in need of some tlc. The kitchen was well equipped (possibly a few extra plates / bowls would have been useful) but otherwise we had everything we needed. The Christmas tree in the lounge was a nice touch.

In general this was an attractive and comfortable property in a wonderful location and the view across the marshes towards Southwold were stunning.

Lots of birdwatching from the house was possible. On the negative side, we never found a light switch to the recess ceiling lights in the lounge/dining area to supplement the wall lights which was puzzling and made reading in the evenings a less comfortable experience for some. The kitchen would benefit from a chopping board. The property decor looked a little tired, esp, the shower room in the downstairs front bedroom (peeling cupboards/clattery fan). There appeared to be a lack of hairdryers though we brought one in anticipation. The online summary of house contents therefore might benefit from updating to be more detailed. The garden whilst in general afforded lovely views, was not representative of the photographs on the Sykes site of an attractively well stocked and maintained garden, and at the far end in particular no obvious structural barrier which caused slight anxiety that our retriever might find a way into the potentially damp marshy area beyond, though thankfully he showed no interest in doing so! However other dog owners might need to be aware of this. Overall we very much enjoyed our stay at Seadrift and would recommend the property to others.

Lovely spacious property with all the facilities needed, and ideally placed for exploring.

it was a warm house with plenty of hot water. The ovens heated up quickly and everything worked! Nice touch to have the welcome biscuits and coffee pods thank you. The negatives are small... The keysafe was small and fiddly to operate, especially in the dark. The bedrooms upstairs seem lacking in furniture (maybe it accommodates camp beds etc) and would have been nice to have hanging space in the room rather than on the landing. The whole house needs some TLC, it could be an absolutely stunning place - it just feels unloved tat the moment. The paintwork is shabby in certain areas, cracks in walls and the showers need a blinking good clean - the grouting is dark in places and the doors and showerheads have quite a lot of limescale. In the downstairs bathroom the bath panel had come away and was just propped against the bath - no information given that they were aware/work in progress. That aside, we would recommend the house and location - and would keep the details for a future visit.

Beautiful location with stunning views and short walk to pub and beach.

We were unlucky that arrived during storm Babet and every road in was flooded. So took 9 hours to do a 3 hour journey. As we arrived in pitch darkness it was hard to find the house name. Could do with a light over it for late arrivals. However the house itself is stunning downstairs. Would be gorgeous to sit outside in the summer. Very well equipped kitchen and Nespresso coffee machine and pods were very welcome after a horrendous journey. Beds, duvets and pillows absolutely outstanding. No one wanted to get up! Downstairs is beautifully decorated and furnished. The master bedroom en-suite bathroom is looking a bit tired in places and second upstairs bedroom didn’t feel so well decorated as all the others. But I imagine you have to accept a very popular rental to have some of these small issues. But overall would thoroughly recommend for a family or friends gathering. We would definitely come back.
