What our customers say about their holidays

    • Nick - Verified booking

The cottage’s outside appearance is shabby to say the least and is undoubtedly the most run down in the street.

Inside the settee was scruffy and very uncomfortable to sit on. The central heating didn’t come on one evening. The shower didn’t work and I had to call your colleague to arrange for a plumber to come out. He took one look at the shower and said it couldn’t be mended as it was so old. He then found there was an airlock and thankfully it worked. The whole of the shower and toilet area was covered in water as it is a wet room but the water didn’t drain quickly and the floor was very slippery and a risk in terms of falling. There was a set of keys in the back door lock on the outside and so had we not seen them there was a risk of someone accessing the property. The sink in the bathroom has a glass shelf above it which means you can’t rinse your face without hitting the glass. The general state of cleanliness was dirty and uncared for. We got the clear impression that no one cares for this cottage nor the people who rent it. In other cottages we have rented through other agencies there was a welcome bottle of wine but not here. The Welcome file was underneath a guestbook under the television - it should have been out on clear display. The television downstairs was not properly tuned and so the speech was out of sync. The TV in the bedroom did not work as it had no aerial lead. There was nothing in the Welcome pack about the property’s wi fi and password. The shower curtain was mouldy at the bottom a fact pointed out by previous guests but not sorted out. Generally speaking this is a shoddy cottage which is not worth the money we paid. We cut short our stay and went home on the Friday rather than the Saturday. Clearly the owner wants to make money without any investment. We would appreciate some recompense in recognition of this poor rental experience.

Sadly for the first time in over 30 years of staying in holiday cottages I am making a very negative response.

The cottage was so unwelcoming, apart from the awful colour it was painted, the tiny garden had large refuse bin & a pathway that had never been swept & windows that looked like they had never been cleaned outside for months. First impressions! Inside I know that it's a listed building but it was so tired looking, the lounge needs a revamp of furniture, curtains & paint job. The kitchen area was fine and there was all we needed. The shower was good and well planned in the small space but it just felt so unloved. Also it's the first cottage we have been in that there wasn't a little welcome pack, which we have always thought a nice touch. We were very lucky with the weather but the back garden was so untidy and bare & not relaxing chairs to sit on, it really spoilt it for us. We actually felt so uncomfortable in it, probably made worse that the property next door was a historical custom house, beautifully kept that everyone stopped to admire it that we left a day early as we felt so uncomfortable in it. To make matters worse when I booked it whish was with a sister company of yours, I somehow ending making the booking for September 2025 by mistake, you couldn't understand how it could have happened because of the days the booking was made but you rearranged it & didn't charge for doing so but it still cost me an extra £80 more than it should have done. So it's a definite no return for us.

Whilst we really enjoyed our stay at Rosemary Cottage we did feel it could do with a bit of TLC.

The windows were filthy and there were cobwebs in various places around the cottage, the garden needed some care taken on it and the summerhouse was damp and not conducive to sitting in, which was a shame as it could be lovely. There were a couple of broken things (the hooks by the stairs, the cafetière and the front window blind, which we mended). There was a huge draft through the front door straight into the living room so would benefit from a much thicker curtain and the sofa could be updated. We had a problem with the downstairs TV which was fixed within 48hrs but although there was a TV upstairs there was no cable or signal so no point in it being there. We did mention some of these things to Sykes when we rang about the TV. These are only small things but would make us think twice about recommending it or staying again. Saying that the location was great, there was always hot water and everything thing else you needed for a comfortable stay.

A delightful little cottage in a lovely town.

The cottage was perfect for the two of us along with our dog, in a fantastic location at the end of, but right on, the High Street. The living room is cosy and the kitchen is very well equipped. There is not much hanging space in the bedroom, but the chest of drawers was more than enough for us to store our clothes, and the bed was very comfy. The enclosed back garden was not only a delight for the dog, the patio table and chairs have been perfectly positioned to catch the sun most of the day and the summerhouse was a lovely spot for breakfast. The only comment is that the listing description and the info folder in the property both need updating slightly - the TV does not seem to have a built-in CD/DVD player, and the info folder suggests making use of a vacuum cleaner which we couldn't find. All in all, though, a fabulous stay in delightful cottage to which we would definitely consider returning.

Though Regular visitors to Westleton, this was our first stay in Yew Tree Cottage. It was clean and very well equipped, with a good spacious kitchen area. The garden, especially the veranda style seating area would be lovely to use on a pleasant summer evening. Whilst the house is certainly comfortable, we found that during an unseasonably warm week in early March, it became the opposite on occasion. We would have preferred to have the heating off completely at times, but the only way of controlling this, as per instruction, was to drop temperature on room thermostat. The trouble was it never seemed to hold and living room stayed at a constant 23 degrees. It felt uncomfortable at times and coupled with the early morning sun, it made it worse. We certainly could have cut the owners energy bill that week!
