What our customers say about their holidays

    • Liz - Verified booking

Excellent location and hot shower but everything else is poor.

No BBQ or fire pit as advertised on the property listing. Could not light the stove as fuel provided would not light even with fire lighters and kindling. So not able to boil kettle for hot drink or heat the tent. This meant very cold nights. No welcome folder with instructions on how to work stove etc or who to contact for help. Would have been nice to have had some info about local area too. Bedding was stained. Poor attention to detail such as would be nice to have some hooks in shower area to hang clothes and towels, sink is too small to be able to fill bottles etc from tap. Description on website says electric heater which gives impression that there is electricity. There is but no sockets available for phone charging or hair dryer etc. This should be made clear on the description as well as no cooking facilities or cooking equipment. Overall a frustrating and cold weekend. Definitely camping not glamping.

We have just had the most perfect stay at the Old Dairy . Hosts could not have been friendlier or more accomodating. The Old Dairy is spotlessly clean. Very tastefully put together with fabulous attention to detail and comfort. The welcome pack was very generous and delicious and so super helpful to get through first evening and breakfast meals. Our Dogs enjoyed there welcome gifts too. The Old Dairy is situated in beautiful peaceful surroundings with lots of lovey walks. We were even treated to a fabulous walk with our host to show us where the best sunsets were to be observed. Local pub food was perfectly acceptable and a great atmosphere was enjoyed. Great beaches a short car journey away. The information folder provided by our lovely hosts was very informative. Could not recommend more highly The Old Dairy . Thank you once again for a super holiday can't wait to return.

Generally v clean but shower room could have been cleaner around the sink area and bottom of shower screen.

There were no shelves or hooks in the shower room for towels or toiletries which was a bit awkward. Although it was a very pleasant stay the price charged was a lot compared with other properties available for a long weekend in January considering the basic nature of the internal space. We loved the open field, the privacy and view but the fencing is not secure for small/ medium sized dogs. Our dog managed to crawl under the fence at the back but we caught him before an escape was made! All places we have stayed at with Sykes have a folder of useful information about local facilities and walks in the area, there wasn’t one here which we missed. It was lovely to have a welcome gift for our dog which was appreciated. River Lodge was ideal for a long weekend and was conveniently walking distance of the supermarket and Aldeburgh itself.

We have had a fantastic one week stay at River Lodge.

What a peaceful place with beautiful views. The lodge is like a tardis. I managed to get our weeks worth of luggage all unpacked and neatly away. The bed was very comfy. The kitchen had everything we needed. The freezer was a good size for the space and really great for us as our dogs food is frozen. The TV was a nice little extra we weren’t expecting and we could get all freeview channels. The enclosed wrap around garden was huge and our dog loved it. The fencing is excellent and totally enclosed. The local area was lovely with lots of places to eat and plenty of fresh fish. A Tesco and coop in walking distance was really handy. Even with all of this on our doorstep we felt like we were in a very peaceful and private spot. We would certainly recommend and would love to return. An excellent holiday had by all, such a fantastic place.

Equipment: TV-needs re-tuning to find BBC1 on main channel - eventually found it on a 900 channel; a pint glass for beers would be good; better hanging arrangements for clothes although room limitations noted. Otherwise well-equipped, thanks. Cleanliness: Utensils and oven trays had not been checked- greasy and not properly washed-up from previous use e.g. colander in drawer and baking sheet in oven; dusty surfaces with dead flies/spiders on floor and in corners would suggest that the property had not been used in previous week or two so should have had a further sweep round before our arrival. Thank you for welcome goods-much appreciated. Details of local walks available and up-to-date leaflets on visitor attractions would add value to the welcome. Although with the local wildlife to watch, who needs to leave the property?!
