What our customers say about their holidays

    • David - Verified booking

It was only after we booked and paid that we had a note from Sykes explaining that the parking area might be a problem for larger vehicles.

We have a VW Passat Estate (not the biggest of cars these days) and it was very tricky, not just to reverse though the gates into the driveway, because of parked cars opposite, but even more so to tuck the car tight up against the property to allow the neighbour (who has shared access and a garage opening onto the drive) to pass with their car. This would have been good to know in advance. Also Sykes only provided directions to the property from one direction despite the fact the owners had more detailed instruction inside the property. Would be good if Sykes published this on their website along with the owners suggestion of how to park. The Coach House itself was very warm and comfortable, beautifully furnished and well equipped, and we felt very much at home. The owners expressed a wish to know if anything else might be added that they missed ....It would have been good to have had a shaver point in the bathroom for rechargeable toothbrush and razor(or at least to have known in advance to bring manual ones). Also would have liked corkscrew and small tumblers for orange juice etc. All in all, lovely stay and Wirksworth was a good base for discovering the Peak District. Many thanks.

We loved this cottage, really, really comfortable and had everything you would need for a short stay.

The cottage is well positioned in the village with great amenities, including dog friendly pubs and lots of lovely walks a short drive away. The nearby meadow made up for a lack of garden and was perfect for early morning and evening toilet breaks. We loved chilling in the cottage in the evening after a busy day and the property owners had thought about that - plenty of board games, music system, books and freeview TV. We also felt our dog was welcome too, sometimes the number of restrictions made on dogs makes it really stressful ( trying to keep them off the furniture, wiping up muddy paws etc) but I got the impression the owners were dog lovers - they had spare bowls and a dog bed, with a request to try and keep dogs off the furniture but with the acknowledgement that dogs will be dogs. I would definitely recommend this cottage, and would most certainly return if we are holidaying in the area again.

We stayed here for 2 nights with our dog and from the moment we got there we had the best time.

We were a little apprehensive about going away during the pandemic but Barbara had gone absolutely above and beyond to make the stay as clean and safe as possible. She communicated from a safe "contact-free" distance, and had a complete checklist of all the cleaning and extra measures she had put in place. The whole cottage was absolutely spotless and beautifully decorated. Barbara was such a lovely host and told us to let her know if there was anything we needed but the cottage had everything we needed and more, which made it a really comfortable home away from home. Handy parking on the drive made it hassle free for unloading bags and the beautiful secure garden was great for our dog. There are some great walks from the cottage that take you straight out in to the countryside that our dog loved. Only 30 mins drive to the Lincolnshire coast too! Thank you for a lovely stay!

Stayed at this lovely little cottage which had everything you needed for your stay.

Decorated to a very high standard and super clean when we arrived! Cosy and well looked after little sitting out area which is part slabbed, part grass which was just enough for our little Jack Russell. The location is in a nice little village with a pub just a stroll away but the best part of this holiday though was the fantastic host, Barbara. She was the best host we've ever come across and nothing was too much for her. Regularly checking to make sure we had everything we needed. Really enjoyed talking to her across the fence in the evenings whilst trying to introduce my little monster dog to her gorgeous new puppy. Such a pleasant and genuine person! I'd highly recommend this place and we are definitely gong back there again! Absolute 5 Star!

The Old Bakers Shop is a ideal accommodation for 2 people.

The furnishings are comfortable and the kitchen has everything you require. There is also a file provided with instructions on how the appliances work (something many hosts do not provide. They just assume you'll know). A freezer is available although not in the accommodation but in an outhouse at the side of the property. There are some lovely walks from the accommodation with information provided. The local pub, the Blue Bell, is 2 mins walk away. When we stayed in April/ May, opening times were limited (like many pubs in the area)however that may change during the summer. Barbra the host, lives next door and is on hand if required but does not intrude on your time. We would highly recommend this accommodation.
