What our customers say about their holidays

    • Barry - Verified booking

I’ll start with the positives about the cottage (Location, Peace, Hot Tub) The cottage is ideally placed at the north end of the island, which was great for exploring.

A previous review mentioned Church Bay being not so great and though there isn’t much there, when the tide is out the there is a great little beach, especially if you have a four-legged friend with you. The cottage itself is close to a main road but set far enough back for you not to really hear much from the traffic (which isn’t exactly heavy anyway). The view from the back of the cottage is great and the peace and quiet was amazing and welcomed too. The big bonus is the large hot tub, which we (me in particular) made great use off. It’s under cover so even sat out there in the rain one afternoon. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end I’m afraid because, just as a numerous previous reviews have mentioned and not taken on board, the cottage is dated, tired and in need of some TLC and a deep clean. The pictures on Sykes are a tad misleading as they were obviously taken some time ago starting when you pull onto the not so large drive (might be a problem if you have multiple cars) as most of it has been cut out now and the garage walled off the main part of the property. The drive was full of weeds, the front door damaged and filthy, the pretty window flower boxes empty! Windows all round were filthy too. Same with the rear enclosed area, again pictures no longer a reflection of how it looks now. The barbeque tray and grill missing, decking in need of clean to remove slippery algae, walls need repainted etc. Plant pots full of weeds, faded plastic plants and broken – not the pretty area in the photo Inside I’d say the cottage has most things you need but again so much is a dated mismatch of items, a lot of which need replaced especially the beds and the worst bedding and pillows I’ve experienced in a cottage (I’d advise taking your own pillows to be honest). The mattresses are uncomfortable, duvets pretty useless and as the instructions said we had to strip the beds we used before leaving we were privy to the ruddy great stain on one of them. The wall mounted fire didn’t work, as mentioned in another review but in all fairness the other heater did (we only used the lounge and kitchen one) I think that, reading the reviews the cottage was probably lovely some time ago but ongoing neglect had left it feeling drab and tired – A paint throughout out of season, tidy the front and back areas u[ and replace the beds and bedding and it would bring it back up to a decent standard. All in all, I wouldn’t stay there again but value for money, location, hot tub, peace and relaxation then maybe consider it but just be aware it is not as portrayed as per the photos and does need that care and attention to bring it back up to spec

This is without question the bast place in the UK we have ever stayed.

The property was immaculately clean, was situated in a fantastic location, and had everything you could possibly need for your stay. Just perfect for the type of holiday we wanted. There are lots of lovely walks about, several small beaches near and close to some great sightseeing locations. Plus, although you feel like you’re literally in the middle of nowhere, you’re less than a 15 minutes drive from Holyhead with every shop and amenity you could need, so forgetting something or taking everything you’ll need for your stay isn’t a problem. The property was completely clean, and although might not look it with the open spaces, really comfy and cosy of an evening. The open plan upstairs is great for small families and you’re treated to fantastic view from where ever you’re sitting. I’m really missing enjoying breakfast looking over the gorgeous scenic hills You can really tell that Sam, the host, has a passion for making peoples holiday special. Her attention to detail is brilliant, and she had just the right level of contact as to ensure your holiday and the property is okay, but nottoo much as to be overbearing. She was even so nice when our toddler caused a small breakage, only charging us for the replacement item, and not any additional breakage charged. Anglesey has become a firm favourite of mine, and although I do like staying in different properties each visit, I will struggle to not want to come back here, and will probably base my next visit to the isle around the availability of this property.

I was disappointed when arriving that the photo did not reflect the true size of the properties frontage,(was much smaller than expected, looks a lot larger in photo).

Had problems with accessing the key safe, would buy a new one if mine. The cleanliness was not as good as expected, the ingress of woodlice of all sizes on a daily basis was off putting as was finding dead carcasses of same in all rooms downstairs which shouldn't have been there if a thorough cleaning had taken place. The divan bed downstairs was not connected together and would come apart at the slightest touch and reveal that cleaning of underneath had not taken place for quite some time. The mattress of the divan bed downstairs was very hard(like sleeping on a plank). We opted to use just the lower floor because of the location of the bathroom. The heating instructions for use was very misleading,it mentions the main control being adjacent to the family bathroom upstairs, took some time to understand how to use the radiators.(No instructions for these). Our pets biscuits were in a bowl in the kitchen and these were coated one morning with slug or snail slime as was the cloth it stood on,could not find the culprit but there was a large gap in the corner where the kick boards should meet. Sorry if my comments seem harsh and negative, but I think the property owners should be made aware of these failings.

We stayed at Rhiangwyn cottage over new year.

The cottage is a good size and the kitchen has everything you need. The bedrooms upstairs are lovely. Unfortunately we couldn't use the shower for the last few days as the cable box started smoking quite aggressively so we had to turn it off at the fuse box (we did report this and the house manager made sure we were OK with the bath). There is also seems to be a woodlouse problem, there were dozens of them downstairs and quite a lot of dead ones under furniture and behind the TV stand. The back door of the property doesn't close properly so the hall is always freezing cold meaning we had to have the heating on frequently. The mattresses could really do with toppers and the one downstairs needed to be flipped as stated on the label as it was dipping but was better when turned over and a topper was added ourselves. The mattress upstairs is extremely loud. We were also left with the wrong greeting booklet (for the house next door) so we didn't really have much information about hot tub maintenance etc. I think with some maintenance this property would be really lovely but we are a bit disappointed overall

      Lovely cottage!

We spent a week here as a family of 4 with 2 young children. The cottage has a good open plan living space with a well stocked kitchen and two spacious en suite bedrooms. There are lovely views of Holyhead Mountain from the patio and the windows and you can just see the sea from the corner of the garden. The conversion has evidently been done to a high standard. There were also some simple touches which are frequently missed in holiday cottages - there was hand soap by every sink, quite a few dishwasher tablets were provided, a pint of milk was in the fridge ready for our arrival, free WiFi. It's a very quiet location, which is beautiful but does also mean you need to drive to get anywhere. We found you could easily reach all of Anglesey by car to explore. And you can set out on foot from the cottage to pick up the costal path and explore the RSPB reserve. Despite being right in the coast there are no beaches within walking distance of the cottage, but there are some good sandy beaches a short drive away. I'm really pleased we booked Ysbryd y Mynydd and would stay here again.
