Beautiful location, superb views, plenty of wildlife and very peaceful.
We loved seeing the jets from RAF Valley! However, we were let down by the level of cleanliness and comfort with cobwebs in every room, dusty skirting boards, awful smell in the kitchen like stale milk, leather sofa covered in dog hair, duvet covers with broken fastenings and mouldy shower cubicle. We rang the owner to tell her about this and she was shocked but very helpful, she contacted her son who called to see us and asked the cleaning company to send a cleaner the same day. The cleaning was done on the Tuesday of our one week stay. Given the late check in time on Saturday (5.30pm) we felt the cleaning didnât reflect the time that should have been spent on it and was long term neglect. The check out time was 9am. We left on the Friday evening so really lost a day of our holiday as it would have been a push getting my disabled Mum ready. The cottage would benefit from a refurb and some tlc, with 3 adults and 1 child the sofa and chair didnât really meet our needs, the sofa bed was grubby and dated and was too uncomfortable to sit on as an extra sofa. Some of the electric sockets were also loose, some of the windows were stuffed with paper to fill the gaps and the shower doors were fixed in position which meant that my disabled Mum couldnât use it. A small step into the dining room also posed a problem for her limited mobility. The decking fence was in need of repair, however this was a lovely place to sit and was private and not overlooked. We would definitely return to the cottage if it is updated and refurbed , itâs a pity the photos donât show the current condition of the property.

From the moment we arrived we realised how absolutely dire the property was.
The windows are old 1st generation double glazed, some with holes through the glass and one with a note stuck to it saying not to open, the ones that did open operated poorly. The property was generally filthy throughout, with years and years of ground in built up grime. The property looks like it has had no maintenance, upkeep or upgrading for decades. The electrical equipment hasnât been tested for 5 years and the âinduction hobâ is not induction at all, itâs a two ring convection hob that doesnât perform very well. The log burner is far too big for the property and I would be concerned with its safety as there was no HETAS certificate present in the property and no visible co2 monitor within range of it. The wardrobes were stuffed with stale smelling spare bedding, I wouldnât hang anything in them. The beds are uncomfortably hard (and very old). Paint is peeling off every wall, the patio doors are difficult to operate and lock, even when youâre quite strong. The towels werenât adequate to be used for the dog. I had to go shopping for new towels, throws and cushions for the beds and sofa before we could do anything. Generally just very disappointing. The most adequate succinct description would be that the property is like the âbeforeâ pictures on Homes Under the Hammer. I complained to Sykes who did not wish to take any responsibility at all for a property that they are happily promoting and taking a fee for. The owner considers that there is nothing wrong with it!

We had a really lovely family get together in this homely and surprisingly spacious cottage.
Archie the toddler had the benefit of a garden which he does not at home and we were able to thoroughly enjoy family time with both Archie and 8 week old Oscar which we were very sadly unable to with Archie due to the lockdown in 2020 when he was born. We loved the wonderful views of Holyhead which were ever changing and the toing and froing of the ferries. We went swimming at Treaddur, Church Bay and conveniently down the track from Bodlasan Farm at Llanfachraeth. The beach in the late evening is superb with a setting sun, the cries of the curlews, the heron fishing on the foreshore and the tooting of owls on the way back. We found the Owen family utterly kind and friendly, a lovely hamper of goodies was left for our arrival including eggs from the chickens. There are ample places to visit, too many for just one week! We went to NT Plas Newydd, a trip to Puffin Island, Benllech Beach leading to beautiful Red Wharf Bay. A great place to leave worldly problems behind just for a week and share the clearly treasured childhood home of the owners.

We were very lucky with the weather which made our stay.
Whilst the property has unique character we did feel the property needs a lot of TLC, especially when comparing living room with the kitchen and dining room. Dining room was very uncomfortable to sit at, and very tight seating area. Kitchen has a lot of equipment beyond use (frying pans rusty, plated and cups chipped, utensils rusty / damaged, door from kitchen to dining room could not be closed as did not latch to properly. Beds were very uncomfortable - some new mattresses would improve them. Shower leaked badly in the bathroom and lots of mould. Needs to be a warning on the description about the extremely low roof areas as some door frames had no padding and I personally made my head bleed 3 times, if you have a bad back this may be worth a miss as bending a lot. Think the fire provisions on arrival were sparse, thankfully we brought our own logs too. Area was very secluded which was great, and muddy track to beach was good - bring your wellies though! Finally thanks for returning a coat I left in the cottage.

My second time staying at Ty Woods.
It is in a lovely location just a five minute walk from Rhoscolyn Beach and with the whole south/west of the island within easy reach. Shopping for provisions is good with two stores a short drive away and a Tesco Extra a 15 minute drive. There's a dog friendly restaurant/pub just 200yds away (book in advance - the White Eagle is always busy, even in off season.) The cottage itself is spacious, clean, tidy and well presented with everything you could need for a comfortable week away. In particular the kitchen now has a dishwasher (bring tabs) washing machine and tumble dryer plus the usual accessories. In the lounge I see the TV has been upgraded since my last visit and is now a large screen Hitachi complete with a basic Sky TV package. There is a Netflix link on the remote and if you already have the service at home you can log into your account here to use whilst away from home, but don't forget to log out at the end of your stay! All in all, a lovely week away. Thank you!
