Our recent stay at 'Old School Muncaster House' was nothing short of exceptional, especially considering the unique circumstance of 5 families sharing this remarkable retreat.
Nestled amidst nature's embrace, this historic schoolhouse-turned-cottage provided an unforgettable experience that seamlessly blended the charm of yesteryears with modern comfort. From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were enamored by the cottage's rustic yet cozy ambiance, which perfectly accommodated our large group. The spacious interior and thoughtful layout ensured that each family had ample room to relax and unwind, while still fostering a sense of togetherness and camaraderie. The breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside served as the perfect backdrop for our memorable gathering. We were gathered around the fireplace sharing stories, or enjoying meals together on the patio, every moment spent at 'Old School Muncaster House' was filled with warmth and laughter. Despite its secluded location, the cottage was conveniently close to a variety of attractions and activities, ensuring that there was never a dull moment during our stay. From exploring nearby hiking trails to discovering charming local villages, there was something for everyone to enjoy. In conclusion, our time at 'Old School Muncaster House' was an unforgettable experience that brought 5 families together in a truly special way. Whether you're planning a reunion or simply seeking a peaceful retreat with loved ones, this historic cottage offers the perfect setting for creating lasting memories. We can't recommend it highly enough and look forward to returning in the future.

Review: Excellent property, Well described, and a wonderful location. Cosy period cottage, with everything you'd need. Garden well enclosed for dogs, once the gate is closed. Bedrooms roomy. Excellent bathroom and modern kitchen. Plenty of local guide-books/ maps to hand. (One containing some history of the cottage "Life in Langdale". Despite being a period cottage, was easy to keep warm. Will return. Note to Original Cottages: Would be good if we could have had a later checkout, especially as no-one was coming that day, and the cleaners didn't arrive at 10am. Also too many signs pinned to all the cupboards / bookshelves saying "don't use as this won't be cleaned". Not sure what that meant, but pointless, and over the top. A book is a book, and part of the property experience (ie the local guidebooks/ history of the valley etc. The signs should be removed, and they are unsightly in a period cottage. Also Original Cottages had put up a sign saying to check-out at 9am above the cooker, despite the property guide at the property saying 11am, and the booking saying 10am. Finally, there are two key lockers in the wood-shed, which was confusing, as I couldn't open the first one, and found the second one (containing the key) by chance in the dark. It's on the left wall next to the light switch. Details should be updated, As should the fact that you should enter the property via the kitchen and not the "front-door". Thanks

I will wright a true review about our experience.
The location and the cottage are absolutely fabulous. The cleaning needs to be improved, in most of the bathrooms we could easily see that they havenât been touched . No hand soap, no shower gel .. In two bathrooms was hard to have a shower as was no water pressure . In the kitchen are 2 dishwashers but no even one tablet to put in . The fridges also need a good clean . The ovens, there are 4 but only the small one on the right top I managed to turn it on . When I asked about the barbecue I have been told is no barbecue there so we had to buy and carry one and surprise , when we arrived there we found a huge one. Couple of radiators in the rooms are not working but we manage to be comfortable. In the second day we had no electricity from 2pm to 6pm , was quite hard with the kids specially when the dark started but is no ones fault , no even the neighbours had . I tried to get in touch to find out if there is a generator or something but apart from I will try to find out from agency I havenât heard anything. We was lucky that the electricity went back before the night, otherwise I donât know how we would have been able the sleep in cold as everything is electric. Apart from all mentioned we had a wonderful time and we will be happy to return but I hope improvements will be made in the mean time. I recommend to go and see the waterfall , for us was like an adventure but we really enjoyed.

What a delightful cottagel Very homely atmosphere with beautiful local pictures amidst more personal ones dotted around. Tasteful carpets at the same time as being sensible for a holiday cottage! Clearly people have loved coming on holiday here for years and the owners have had many returning guests - unsurprisingly. Very spacious house. Sheets and bedding exceedingly comfortable. Warm! Great to have a nice shower and bath with hot water never running out! The location could not have been better with a most beautiful (and secure) garden with "rooms", a variety of plants and trees and birds. Great to have a secure place for our dog who loved it. Small little stream in garden so you can hear the gentle burbling of the brook. Set just in front of Loughrigg Fell with with the bonus of a 5 minute walk to the Tarn where you can swim in the clear clean water; only a 10 minute drive to Ambleside - a peaceful iddylic setting which made for a memorable holiday. A special thing too to gaze at the stars so clearly at night without any light pollution to blot their view. We'd definitely come again but realise we'd have to book very early so as not to be disappointed. Thank you!

The property is for 8, however the smaller 1st floor bedroom does not have any clothes hanging space due to the double bed - the wardrobe is outside the room down 4 steps on the mid-landing?
As with all properties the accommodation is non-smoking. It should be noted that the rear outside area is covered over and shared with the adjoining property. During our stay the area was used 'by others' for outside smoking? - No smoking sign would clarify the legal status. The split kitchen/dining area is not an easy to use layout. The table although a good size, has restrictive chair seating access. The front hallway has a mobile entrance mat that rides up and is a trip hazard. It should be noted that the instructions in accommodation book say the bed linen is to be turned back and not stripped as per the email read on our return. That all done with, the TV was great, the water pressure was good, plenty of cutlery, cups, plates etc.. The location was good for the town shops, park and Latrigg Fell not far away.
