What our customers say about their holidays

    • Victoria - Verified booking

It was a nice little place but wouldn’t stay here again unfortunately.

I know the place accepts dogs but it just smelt really badly of wet dog as well as the sofa and left our clothes smelly! It seemed as though it had tried to be masked with air fresheners but didn’t work! All the kitchen equipment is greasy and covered in hairs and needed washing before we could use it. The kettle had black bits in it when we tried to make tea so seems as though the coating is coming off! The bed was horrible!! Hairs all in the bed, the duvet and pillows. Brown stains on the bedding and looked like it had been dragged on the floor before putting on the bed. We had to shake it all out outside before we went to bed! Not what you want to be doing on holiday! The floor is also really dirty throughout, dead flies in the corners and just dirty. All round the skirting is dirty as well as in the wardrobe door runner! I spilt some water on the floor and after wiping it up with kitchen roll it was just black! Just needs a really good clean!! We loved the welcome hamper but would have liked a little pint of milk in the fridge too which we have had in all other places we have stayed I. With Sykes. After a really long journey, arriving late and being so far out of everything it would have been a nice touch to have some milk left in the fridge for our arrival so we could have a cuppa!! Overall if it was cleaned thoroughly and a bit more attention to detail was taken it would be a lovely place. Unfortunately not for us.

We recently arrived home after spending 5 days at Frost over Christmas.

The cottage and it’s locality is stunning. The proximity to the Lake and Ferry we found idyllic . We found everything really comfortable and warm & cosy. Everything there for our needs. The cute Welcome hamper was so lovely and really thoughtful with high quality essentials of tea coffee Christmas marmalade, new year chutney, gin and beer. It was lovely coming back to the lovely cosy cottage after a day hopping over on the ferry to bowness Windermere or hawkshead / coniston. So much to see. The chippy in hawkshead highly recommended and lovely owners who are so friendly. Food in cuckoo inn lovely also which is a short drive away. Our only disappointment was the cleaning was not welcoming as on arrival we had to clean the fridge before putting food in it as was dirty and the couch had several stains on it which we also cleaned plus the rug smelt of wet dog so we rolled that up and didn’t use it. The owners have thought of everything for comfort of anyone staying at frost , it was a home from home and the views from living room and bedroom are so relaxing looking at the water. If cleaning was to a higher standard this place would be perfect, however we still cannot wait to return for another stay . It really is a place to chill and recharge. Thank you so much Sykes and Frost owners. This place is magical inside and out

We had a nice stay in difficult circumstances after my mum died a few days prior to our arrival.

We've stayed here a few times now and really enjoy the location and hot tub. What we weren't so happy about was the way in which lakelovers handled the situation. I made a request to amend the dates last minute, not expecting this to be acceptable but felt it was worth asking, explaining I was caring for my mum as she received hospice care at home. The initial copy and paste reply I received to my message was, I feel, insensitive in the circumstances. I explained that Beth would use the property if we could not change dates but I would not be able to. Circumstances changed quickly so, after discussing with my family, we decided to travel a day later. On arrival we were told that the owner had checked with lakelovers and been told we were not coming. This hadn't been checked with me at all and was contrary to my message, so the heating had been turned off and though it was rectified immediately and caused us no further issue I feel a message to check our plans would have been more appropriate. I will avoid using Lakelovers in future.

I was very disappointed to discover that the fridge had not been repaired since I stayed previously in September 23.

The freezer box door fell off then whenever you opened it. This year there was NO door on the freezer box, so everything in the fridge froze, or if you turned it down a little you ended up mopping up pools of water every day. Last year I also pointed out that the outside light wasn't working, and that also was true this year. The washing machine door then broke and wouldn't open. I called the local office for some help, but, unsurprisingly no one turned up. I had to leave the cottage when I checked out with some of my clothes still inside.the washing machine! I contacted the local office again, and explained, again. This time I said I expected them to send my clothes to my home address, free of charge. Whether they will I have no idea. Watch this space! The cottage is in a lovely spot with lots of good walks and I was eager to return again this year. I just hope the owners can get their act together and sort out some of the niggles. Cheap it is not!!?

Such a lovely place to stay directly on Windermere for a couple.

Me and my partner went for a birthday getaway and we could not have found a better place to stay. The ferry across to Bowness is frequent and super easy, though we also travelled around the lakes without using the ferry. The area is quiet and a perfect place for a range of hikes. It took us just about an hour to drive to Keswick, and under 30 minutes to Ambleside, so it’s a great location for any activities you wish. It’s not super close to a pub or shops, but that was fine by us as we would plan meals in advance. The only issues we had was there being a limited amount of bin liners and dishwasher tablets, and the batteries for the TV remote were starting to die. It’s also worth noting that the double bed is two single beds pushed together which can be uncomfortable if you are a couple that sleep closely together. Overall, a wonderful place to stop - will definitely be stopping again!
