What our customers say about their holidays

    • Eileen - Verified booking

This is a wonderful building with extremely spacious and comfortable lounge, dining room etc.

Well equipped with lounge and dining furniture and glassware, crockery etc. Plenty of secure off-road parking and a lovely garden area. Two sets of outside furniture plus a BBQ which we used on two occasions, with our coats on, it was end September after all. The village was lovely with three pubs in total, two that provide meals and one that is for drinks only. All the people we met were very friendly. There is also a Londis store and a butcher's shop. The property is well-situated for visiting a lot of different areas and sites. We had a lovely week here. We do have a few slightly negative comments though. Firstly the lighting in the property is very poor which does make it seem a little dismal. Some of the beds, in particular those in the two rooms to the left of the hall, are not the most comfortable. The other twin room was a little small and would better suit a double bed, the beds in this room were comfortable enough but the frames were very noisy when turning over etc. The bedding was clean but some of the pillows and duvets were a bit lumpy. As I said above it is a wonderful, characterful building but would say, would benefit from a bit of updating in kitchen and bathrooms. Having said this, we would still return.

Return visit after 5 years and property is still very lovely.

It was very clean generally but did find substantial cobwebs in the lounge albeit amongst the beams and light fittings in most cases. The paintwork is now looking tired, especially up the staircase. We slept in the bedroom with patio doors onto the garden, which could explain why, when on getting out of bed the first morning, I stood on one of a couple of slugs on the carpet. Several more appeared during our stay and there was a constant unpleasant smell from the bathroom. Would these comments put me off staying again, certainly not, the barn is still a fantastic property for large parties to get together. The size is quite substantial and comfortably and sympathetically furnished. I would just point out to the owners that the leak in the small first floor window in the lounge, overlooking the road us still ongoing.

The beautifully converted barn was fitted out to the highest standards.

The insulation of the building was so efficient that the rooms felt warm with minimal heating at the beginning of October. The bedrooms on the ground floor were a little cooler after 10pm which was exactly what we wanted. The wood and coal burner in the sitting room was stocked with large quantities of logs and coal but was never needed because the central heating was so effective. We particularly appreciated the four bathrooms. All the facilities were just as described and the kitchen was fully equipped with all we needed. We were greeted by the owner who gave us all the necessary basic information and then simply left us to enjoy the break. One of our daughters came over for a day with her family and was tremendously impressed. We would certainly recommend Meadow Place very warmly and hope to revisit it.

We had a super week at Curlew Barn.

The property is very comfortable and well equipped. Friendly and helpful owners there to welcome us. They provided very useful information on the local area. We loved the hot tub - beautiful view from the garden. Lots to do nearby. We did lots of walking at the nearby manifold way, near Barlestone, and at the Tittesworth reservoir. We also visited some great places within an easy drive, namely Shugborough Hall, Kedleston hall, Trentham Gardens and Chatsworth. Handy supermarket a few miles away in Leek and M&S food just a few minutes away in Ashbourne. The Bangladeshi restaurant within walking distance receives great, well-deserved, reviews - we are there twice! Will definitely return. This is a very under-rated area with beautiful walking and plenty to entertain visitors.

      Meadow Place Barn was amazing.

We had a very relaxing time. Our two families and our dogs had a wonderful holiday. The enclosed garden & secure driveway were fabulous for the children & dogs. There was plenty of garden furniture, which we really enjoyed using when the weather was lovely for the first half of the week. The property inside was extremely spacious, with a huge lounge & open plan landing/dining area. The property was extremely well equipped. It very much felt like being in the countryside, situated on a very quiet country lane, with plenty of walks nearby. Our host was very friendly & helpful & suggested places to go. We enjoyed all of the local pubs & the local shop had everything we needed. The local people were extremely friendly. I would highly recommend it.
