The cottage itself was probably the most comfortable we've stayed in and the owners' attention to detail and the touches to help dog owners were brilliant.
The bathroom off the lounge needs a bit of a touch up and the showers weren't very powerful but those were the only quibbles we had with the cottage. The paddock is a great place for dogs on a long lead but it's not fully enclosed so dogs would be able to bolt into the fields or road around the cottage. It does make for an excellent spot for using telescopes and I managed some great photos of some nebulae. Walking through the village is a bit weird, take a torch if you'll be out in the dark as the street lighting is bizarrely spaced out. There is a poo bin about 5 minutes away from the cottage if you need to deposit something whilst walking. Mablethorpe beach is really nice, there's a big car park with a nice little cafe and the beach itself is wide, long and flat. If you go out of school holidays, it's really quiet and you will have plenty of room. The only downside, one which nearly had us leaving after two days due to a panicking dog, is the surrounding farmers using very loud bird scarers from 6am til 10pm.A couple of locals I spoke to whilst waiting for the fish & chip van (Tuesdays 17:30-17:50 at the football club) said the scarers aren't meant to be used during unsocialable hours but the farmers ignore that. If you have dogs or someone who's scared by frequent, recurring loud bangs this may not be the place for you.

Very pleased with cottage.
Unfortunately I picked the wettest week on record however we were lovely and warm in the cottage. The flooring was ideal as when we brought our dogs in soaking wet we could dry them off in the sun room. I couldn't believe the size of the house. We seemed to be opening doors to yet another room so if you want chill out time on your own it was no problem. The garden was absolutely perfect, pity due to weather conditions we couldn't get out there but the views were gorgeous. Also garden very safe for dogs, and plenty of room to park the car. Very big bathroom, useful second toilet, good sized bedrooms, lovely completely rural location, but on our walks met and chatted with all the locals. Must do's: walk to the lighthouses and nature reserve, dinner at The Anchor in Sutton Bridge ( we had fantastic carvery on Wed night for £7.50!!), Kings Lynn, Norfolk Lavender Farm and Sandringham Country Park all worth a visit. Would def book this cottage again, oh and by the way they even supply dog bowls. Very doggy friendly.

Lovely little cottage in a great location.
We always take our dogs on holiday and this was a perfect place. It has an enclosed courtyard, which was great for the dogs. Thereâs a little lane down the side for walkies time. The cottage has a great layout. Ideal for my dad who isnât so good at getting around. It had pretty much everything we needed. Loved the covers for the sofas so the dogs could go on themâ£ï¸ We did find the beds a little uncomfortable. The mattresses were a little hard. But, sheets and towels were provided, which is great when you already have a packed car. Mablethorpe has a dog friendly beach thatâs worth visiting. Also, you must take the time to go to Anderby Creek. Thereâs a great cafe and, again, a wonderful dog friendly beach. All in all, The Old Sweet Shop is in a perfect location, has everything you need and is a perfect dog friendly retreat.

The semidetached 3 bedroom house is situated absolutely in the middle of nowhere.
Surrounded by fields amazing views. Perfect for a quiet week. We stayed end of April. So quiet maybe no so in farming season. Itâs a lovely well equipped house. Everything you need to feel home from home. Bathroom downstairs but lovely and big. Towels were soft and fluffy. Water hot. The bedroom we only stayed in the main one. Mattress very soft and comfy. The floors are not carpeted so I would recommend bringing slippers with you. The enclosed garden is secure for your dog to be safe. The WiFi was perfectly fine for us we watched Netflix no bother. We used as a base and went to Sandringham, Kingâs Lynn, Heacham and Hunstanton. Also we walked our little dog each evening down the lane to the house. I would recommend to stay here. We really enjoyed it.

What a fabulous place!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Old Sweet Shop. The owner was very welcoming and informative. The cottage was excellent, very clean and well-maintained. The cottage is in a very quiet location, but if you have a car, there are some lovely seaside places within a 40 -60 minute drive. We visited Mablethorpe, Cleethorpes, Louth, Ingeoldmells and Skegness which were all lovely. We had 3 generations staying here and we all had a fabulous time. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage. A fish and chip van visits the village each Tuesday, which was excellent. We would also recommend the Gardenerâs Rest at the local Garden Centre a great place for breakfast for before you set off home. Thank you for letting us stay.
