What our customers say about their holidays

The Searle is not really a cottage.

It is an apartment within a converted Pub. Had I known would not have booked it. extremely clean and modern decor. apart from the old disgusting dirty and stained bedroom curtains hanging off the rails. Also issues with lack of clothes wardrobe . The soot and water mix from leaking chimney stack staining the back wall of fire place. The kitchen had long term (see past reviews) breakages and missing cooking items. Self catering!!?? The outside in a state of neglect and dis-repair. Leaking hot tub . Owner switched it off. There is no garden. It is a concrete ‘yard’, with a trip hazard foot path from entrance gate. Secondary gate latch hanging off ….not pet safe. Render and crack damage around entrance door, walls and damp course level. Blocked (long term growing vegetation) rain guttering, creating a Niagara Falls onto path slabs . Sleep was impossible. Then I saw the Property for sale sign, since March 2024. I concluded this was a significant reason for Searle’s general dis-repair and the owners non- commitment to her property and her guests mental comfort. When sold it is somebody else’s problem. Three days in I had enough . left and returned home. Left comments in guest book , dated and signed . I text owner Sara Jay/Jane when home. To date I have not had a reply. I did not expect one . This standard is not what I expect from Sykes Cottages. Please see my account list of prev cottages and 10/10 reviews. Kind regards Michael Reid

We are a couple in our sixties, my daughter and my 8 year old grandson was with us.

Can honestly say we all, including my grandson, was taken aback at how beautiful this place was, right on the river with lots of wild land to roam in, beautifully kept gardens and never seen so many little birds such a joy to watch. Lots of kites the feather kind ! so sitting with morning cups of tea watching the wildlife and the brilliance of the place set us up for the day. We all loved it and just didn’t want to come home! It was perfect for our dog, all the areas are fenced and thought is taken with keeping our pets safe. The house was clean, well equipped and very comfy ! We went to the Dams over the mountain road, hold onto your seats but well worth it, Devils bridge also a must, the local town perfect, and the kite feeding. Whilst the Wi-Fi worked there were some moments it wasn’t too good, but this was everywhere in these mountains, We did have to drive into town to the car park, and park at the top of the car park as I had a very important phone call coming in, but even that wasn’t a big deal as we walked around the local shops and enjoyed our morning… All in all perfect break in the gardeners cottage and we hope to go back, definitely recommend. Thank you Johnathan and Chee.

Although the weather was in our favour the cottage was well equipped if it hadn't been.

There was heating and a fire if it got chilly, a television should you need it and although we took games and books we didn't need either. All cottages have access to the river should you wish to fish or just walk. We stayed at gardners cottage which had access to a front garden whereas riverside cottage had access to the back garden - both very pretty with seating outside. There are two other cottage like chalets with the same amenities, called salmon and trout. I could have stayed in any, they all looked well presented, My only suggestion would be for lighter duvets in the summer months as the sloping roof meant it got fairly warm in the bedrooms at night. We found the whole holiday totally relaxing and the owners Jonathan and Chee and their dog Freddie very welcoming. We would most definitely return but next time I will be more aware that the welsh midges wear boots as big as the Scottish ones.

A lovely bungalow, plenty of space both inside and out.

Beds were very comfy, lots of towels, lots of utensils and crockery. Very much a home from home feel. Children loved the hot tub which was large and under cover. Quiet location despite being next to a road. Pub is directly opposite and lovely, we ate Sunday lunch there, it was delicious. We spent Saturday in Llandrindod Wells, the lake is worth a visit and the high street was full of independent shops, really nice to see. Only slight downside was the cleanliness of the bungalow, hair/fluff/debris in the kitchen drawers and cupboards in particular. There is a hoover at the property so I ended up hoovering the cutlery drawer and wiping down kitchen surfaces. Similar issue in bathroom and shower room. Once cleaned we could enjoy the rest of our stay. Would definitely return in future.

We had a week booked here but unfortunately day 3 of our holiday we were involved in a car crash that ultimately ruined our holiday and turned it into a holiday from hell.

The highlights of our holiday were the house and facilities offered. As we were grounded to the house for 3 days trying to sort out a courtesy car we made use of the log fire and hot tub which was lovely, we enjoyed a lovely meal in the Severn Arms Hotel across the road thankfully as we had no supplies in and couldn't get out to get any due to the car issues. We had an issue with my daughters disability aid breaking whilst we were grounded but thankfully the man who runs the car garage across the road was lovely and let me borrow a screwdriver. The house was lovely, clean and spacious, in a lovely area. Great hot tub and lovely gardens but unfortunately due to the circumstances I wouldn't come back but was nothing to do with the property. The property was the highlight of our holiday.
