What our customers say about their holidays

    • Jeffrey - Verified booking

The property itself offered all we hoped for in terms of accommodation and location, which was in a lovely setting close to the coast.

Unfortunately however things didn’t get off to a good start when we arrived at the cabin to find the cleaner still busily sorting out the place from the previous occupants. He had apparently been informed he had till 4 pm to complete his task, when in fact our contract with Sykes stated we would have full access to the property from 3 pm! Having waited some 15-20 minutes for him to finish we then entered the cabin and were immediately confronted by the overwhelming odour of damp dog! Closer inspection also showed remnants of what appeared to be evidence of dog biscuit/chews scattered about the carpeted area of the lounge. Coupled with this the glass doors leading out to the decking were visibly smeared with unsightly dog slaver and paw marks. After opening all the doors and windows as wide as possible I then found the vacuum cleaner in one of the cupboards. Before switching it on however I was shocked to find it completely choked with dirt and dog hairs which rendered it useless in picking up anything at all! (Photos of this were sent to Sykes as proof) After spending several minutes emptying and cleaning it I then set about hoovering all the carpeted areas throughout the cabin, which, to my amazement, half filled the hoover back up again. Later in the afternoon following a visit to nearby New Quay in stopped to pick up some carpet deodoriser and air freshener from a local store. On our return to the cabin I then liberally sprinkled the deodoriser over the entire carpet and once again set to hoovering throughout. This process had to be repeated several times during our stay as the smell of dogs kept returning! This unpleasant situation plus the absence of any bin bags which were promised AND missing cushions from the decking furniture, which had obviously been removed prior to our arrival and were nowhere to be found, all added up to a disappointing experience on a trip we had very much been looking forward to! I understand that people are encouraged to bring their pets with them to properties of this nature, which I have no problem with at all! What I would expect however is for property owners to conduct a thorough and extensive clean after each visit, to ensure future occupants don’t have to endure a similar experience to ours!

We had a wonderful few days here at Elvor. The cottage is very well equipped with wonderful sea views and an enclosed garden (sun trap). Everything you could need was at the cottage. It was very clean too. We had one really cold day, so the log burner was lovely. The town of New Quay is one of the friendliest and unspoilt places (and dog friendly) and we were made to feel part of the community despite only being on holiday. Lime crab is a must for fish and chips (and crab taco). The Pepper pot is also a lovely place to eat, and the quiz night in the Seahorse pub hilarious. That is one super friendly pub. A wonderful stroll down to the beach on the left of property is wonderful and the beach just gorgeous…we did it at sunrise a few days. I would recommend Elvor and New Quay as a fab place to spend a few days. We will be back.

The location of the property is great, however it's a bit misleading. The Seaview is beyond a view of at least 100 caravans which are directly to the back of the property. If you have children they cannot play outside without supervision as the garden is to the right of the property and is isolated from the house as is the "games room". As a family we do eat in throughout our holiday. The kitchen didn't feel well equipped to cook for a family of 4. There's a knife sharpener but no oven tray, not enough worktop space or equipment of adequate size to cook for a family. The saniflo macerator was an unwelcome alarm clock going off at 3am every morning. New Quay is a fabulous coastal village, we've visited every year for the past 5. This time unfortunately we cut our holiday short, leaving after 3 nights.

Cleanliness was very poor , cobwebs on lighting fixtures and in corners also toilet had not been cleaned.

Sealant around shower tray looks like it needs to be replaced. Slight tear in bed quilt cover. WiFi took a while to set up but when connected speed wasn’t very good so used own mobile data. Catch on outside gate hard to close also woodpecker sign on gate cracked. Outside storage shed hinges broken and not secured so was moving around during high winds. Seal in washing machine requires cleaning. Stain on one of the single beds (didn’t bother us as we didn’t need to use those beds) Water stains on flip top bathroom bin also papers left inside. But otherwise the stay was lovely we think just think the cleaners need to take more time when cleaning or possibly new cleaners.

Just returned from a week long stay at Belvedere and from the moment we walked in to the house, we absolutely loved it. I especially loved Ty Bach-so cute and a real surprise! Everywhere was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The games room and garden was a real bonus and the location was ideal. The views out to cardigan bay from the house and further along the road were magnificent and it was only a short walk to a beautiful sandy beach which was ideal for dog walks. Great places to eat and the New Quay ice cream did not disappoint!! Have just booked another holiday there and can’t wait to return!! Thank you to the owners of this lovely property. It’s a little gem.
