The house was lovely and the location fabulous. However we felt very overlooked by the main house - it really lacked privacy, both inside the house and in the garden. The garden furniture was fabulous but the garden really really needs an outside shower or at the very least, a garden tap so that you can wash off sandy feet and wetsuits. A real must for a beach rental. The bedrooms were lovely and the beds very comfy. Our en-suite shower was blocked and we informed the host - we explained it was not a problem and we would just use the other shower but we wanted to give them the heads up to get it sorted out before the next guests arrived. We were then very surprised and somewhat unhappy to find out that someone had gone into the house while we were out to fix it - without our permission. Not sure if this is permitted?? The kitchen was lovely and well equipped. The bathroom towels were small and cheap which was a bit annoying given the cost of the rental. It’s these little things that make a difference. We have been to Croyde many times before and absolutely love it there - we will be back, but not to this house.

Many thanks for a wonderful stay.
The cottage was in a superb location and we spent the week walking the coast path from Porlock to Ilfracombe. We were unable to get the televisions working or the video player but once we had established how to connect the cables, we found the signal so weak that we were unable to watch a programme. We realise is not the fault of the owners. We had no problems at all with the cleanliness of the property. Having lived in an old terraced cottage ourselves, we found the same issues at Harbour Cottage as we experienced at home: black sooty like dust escapes from the loft spaces and was to be found on the floors and surfaces in tiny amounts. We have no complaints about this at all - part of the charm of living in a period property and it was evident that the property is cleaned regularly and to a high standard. Thanks for the milk left in the fridge and tea/coffee. This was lovely as we had come on a long journey and arrived late at night. The outside spaces are lovely. A cream tea was enjoyed on the top terrace using the jam left by the owners. Thank you for a lovely stay. Kay and Neerose

This is a wonderful bungalow which is very modern inside.
The views from the raised terrace are really lovely, great to wake up to in a morning. We also loved using the hot tub after days out exploring. We chose to park in front of the bungalow itself but there is also parking in front of the garage at the back. The garden is enclosed, even for our small dog, which was good. The kitchen is well equipped. A slow cooker might be a nice addition. Plenty of towels were supplied, with separate ones to be used for the hot tub. Labelled bags were left out to put laundry in on departure and instructions for recycling - very organised! One minor point for us was that the toilet paper provided was of a very poor quality and did not reflect the high standard of everything else. This is not a complaint but just something that the owners might appreciate feedback on. This was our first visit to Devon and we loved it. Some really interesting places to visit and the bungalow provided excellent accommodation for us and our little dog, Thankyou.

A lovely comfortable cottage, excellent accomodation, extremely well equipped and felt like a home not holiday accomodation. Wifi very good and very nice seating area out front for sunsets or just a cuppa and, dog friendly. The village is a typical rural village narrow roads and not much parking but you can park near the cottage which is down a very narrow lane so need to carry bags from car to cottage and up some steps but worth the effort when you get there. Look for the Chestnut Cottage sign on the wall of the house on the main road, facing the war memorial, then walk down and around the corner to the left, into the narrow lane and to the end. Fantastic pub in village with welcoming landlord and locals. Great walks to Instow across a field and then on coastal path, 20 mins max and fairly flat. short dog walks up by the church in the fields at the back of the cottage for a quick bit of exercise. So much more ot see and access but a great base to do so.

A mixed review.
Great location and the cottage had a well equipped kitchen. The garden is a nice feature and is sunny until the end of the day. However the main bathroom being on the ground floor, while the bedrooms are on the second floor is not ideal. We had the second bedroom set up as a twin room. The room is tiny, you can barely walk around the beds and neither of us could unpack as there was not sufficient storage. The twin beds were incredibly narrow (about the width of a pillow) but the quilts were single size and kept falling off during the night. The ground floor bathroom has no ventilation so it was very steamy and musty. The cottage is nicely decorated and has attractive artwork. Being a cottage there are lots of stairs, so it would not suit elderly people or families with young children. I would recommend the cottage for couples. The proximity to local shops, pubs and the harbour is one of the best things about the property.
