What our customers say about their holidays

    • Maureen - Verified booking

The setting of the cottage in a lovely traditional , friendly village was fantastic.

This also brings a slight disadvantage as the proximity of the church brings the sound of church bells every 15 minutes even during the night. As a person who used to live next to a railway line I can appreciate that eventually you can tune this out , or wear ear plugs, but for our group, we lost sleep. In one of the bedrooms the boiler in the wardrobe created additional heat and noise that further reduced the ability to have a good nights sleep. Another issue was the failure to provide sufficient Bath towels, and no tea towels and oven gloves that we therefore needed to purchase our own to cover this deficiency. We tried to contact the number given to us by the cleaning manager but he failed to respond. Being of a certain age we chose to have a spare bedroom so that it could be used in the event of a restless night. No bedding was provided for this room and therefore was rendered unusable . The village pub nearest to our cottage was closed during our stay but we had good meals at the Miners Standard. Can I now say it had many good points. In a village with limited parking we were able to park two cars easily. We were able to use the garden in the late afternoon over looking the above mentioned village church . The cottage was spacious with many traditional features. Boot room for our wet golf equipment and walking boots.. The delightful dining room with glass wall overlooking the garden. The sumptuous comfortable chairs. It’s geographical position was perfect for our first visits to the Peak District. Would I recommend this to people , Yes I would , so long as they were aware of the above.

The holiday cottage was compact and homely and had beautiful views over the hills surrounding it .

It felt like an escape from our other pressures and some of the neighbours were very helpful about the surrounding areas and lots of leaflets in cottage too . Parking at the cottage was reasonable, and we were shown by a helpful neighbour how to access property behind ,as to the front is a pretty busy road, so difficult with shopping and dogs . It would have been useful to have some basic pointers about useful info, as to how to work the boiler, use hob and recycling or bin facilities. The manuals were in a drawer, but I for one struggled with the convector hob , gave up one night but eventually got it to work . For dog owners ,they need to be prepared to lock front door and take dogs out on lead to garden that is set up high at the back..up 2 sets of steps ,this was not an issue for us,but could be if less active . The bonus was the rural setting was really lovely . The beds were comfortable enough and towels and linen provided.. Possibly the sofa and chairs needed to be a bit bigger or something for sprawling, but yet again the cottage is quite small for larger furniture .Many thanks, we enjoyed our stay and the purple heather on the hill behind was in full glory ..

      What a beautiful cottage!

All furnishings were top quality and well looked after. Bedrooms were huge, plenty of room for our baby's travel cot in with us and our toddler slept like a dream in the twin room. The cottage was very clean in well used areas but there were a few cobwebs behind the armchairs in the conservatory and under the beds in the twin room (I only noticed because my toddler dropped his dummy in the night and I had to go under to retrieve it). This didn't impact our stay at all but thought it worth noting so the owners can raise this with their cleaning company. The garden was beautiful and well maintained however the grass could have done with a cut as it was getting quite long with the lovely weather. The only real issue we had was the dustbins already being full when we arrived but a quick text to the owner and it was sorted within an hour and they were very apologetic. This was probably one of the best cottages we've ever stayed in. The boot room was also excellent for families with dogs. It's worth noting for families with young children that there weren't many amenities for children so take your own booster seats/cups/plates/travel cots etc. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Richfield is a beautiful stone cottage in keeping with the village of Winster.

Five of us stayed here for Christmas (plus our dog) and it fulfilled our needs very well indeed. The cottage was beautifully dressed for Christmas including a tree, it really was a home away from home. Very tastefully decorated with large bedrooms and huge comfortable beds, as well as two reception rooms and a large conservatory leading out to the good sized garden. Excellent footpaths surround the village, although obviously muddy at this time of year, so you just need sensible footwear! (unless you’re my Brother-in-Law but he is Australian!) When you return to the cottage there's a boot room to leave all the muddy stuff and clean up the dog. The village of Winster is like a step back in time, all the properties are beautifully maintained and took pride in their Christmas decorations, there are two very friendly pubs and a community shop which caters for all your essential needs. We found the residents all extremely friendly and welcoming. Many interesting places to visit in the local area, and more ambitious walking not far away if desired. All in all a very nice place to stay whatever the time of year.

The cottage could best be described as ‘adequate’.

Not particularly clean and rather lacking in kitchen utensils (plates, bowls, cutlery etc.) There was no welcome pack, or information provided. I wasn’t aware that the field at the end of the track behind the cottage was out of bounds to people and dogs, but was abruptly informed of this by a very grumpy woman who accosted me as soon as I passed through the open gate. Information about this in the cottage would have been helpful. However despite this, we enjoyed our stay at Bea’s Cottage - the views at the front are lovely, the surrounding area is beautiful and perfect for great walks with our dog. Access to the front door of the property is difficult due to lack of pavement and a very busy main road, which made unloading and loading the car quite perilous. Bed was comfortable and plenty of clean towels and bedding provided. The local pub - The Lantern Pike was excellent. We enjoyed two meals here and the staff and regulars very friendly.
