What our customers say about their holidays

    • Kate - Verified booking

      Second stay at Windyhill.

It’s a great house - fab view, comfortable enough without being so posh that you’re scared to breathe in it, very well equipped kitchen, safe garden for small children are the positives. A barbecue would be an asset but that’s a small point. Minor grumbles: cleanliness not up to standard(I found empty sweets packets and old hair bands under the beds when I was making them up. Also there were grubby finger marks on the kitchen cabinets). Recycling- very glad it’s come to North Cornwall at last, but a fortnightly collection is not enough and it felt wrong to leave it in the house - which is the only option now the recycling place near the loos in Polzeath has gone. Finally, getting everyone packed, breakfasted, dressed and out of the house so I can clean it before 9 am on day of departure is a shockingly stressful way of ending an otherwise excellent holiday. If it could be extended, say to 10.30, it would make life much easier and you’d probably find your houses vacated in a cleaner state. But feedback is offered in a constructive spirit and overall we had a great fortnight. We’ll definitely be back.

It is a lovely little bungalow and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

It is well appointed and well situated for beach activities. However it was not very well cleaned . Usually JB properties are spotless on arrival. This was a bit dusty and one of the duvets in the third bedroom was soiled ( luckily we did not use that room). We found a variety of things under sofa cushions and down the back of mattresses as we made up the beds. We left the smart watch we found on the kitchen shelf. some of the crockery and glasses were sticky and / or had white deposits in them . We just ran them through the dishwasher before using. The toilet seat had some alarming stains too, rust or blood around the hinges? . I used my own cleaning equipment to remove as much of the staining as I could , but I think it may need replacing . It looked as if it had been there a long while. That is some thing that a good cleaning team should pick up on. we sanitised and disinfected all surfaces before we left so the next visitors felt more comfortable on arrival than we did.

This property, for the price, is disappointing.

It is tired, dated and poorly maintained. New bathrooms were appreciated, but the sitting room is basic, bare, brown! and old fashioned. The kitchen needs an overhaul - drawer fascia’s falling off, damaged cupboard doors, ill-fittting dishwasher, dirty and sticky Lino floor. Extremely stingy on kitchen goods for a holiday home - no mop or bucket, an old and disintegrating squeegy mop, one dishcloth and a horrible old kitchen brush for cleaning pots and pans. No basics of cleaning products supplied for bathrooms, toilets or the kitchen. No spare toilet rolls. No salt, pepper - basic cooking ingredients that we have been lucky enough to have in other rental properties. Kitchen table shabby and chairs cheaply reupholstered and stained. The bedrooms overlooking the beach could do with black out blinds, which are already supplied in the bedrooms at the back of the house. Mat inside kitchen door is torn. Outside needs a good weed and clean up.

A lovely property for an enjoyable Christmas break however 2 areas prevented full marks: The door in one of the downstairs bedrooms would not open.

This was reported on 23/12/21 the day following our arrival. I called the office and was assured this would be logged - an attempt to call would be made that day if not the next (Christmas Eve). I was asked to leave the key which I did but this was not rectified for the whole of our stay meaning my daughter & son-in- law were without fresh air in their room for the whole week. A H&S issue too I feel as this is the only access in the room as no window. If this were to have been in the summer months it would have been unbearable. The second issue was the lack of hot water for showers. There were 5 of us - not up to capacity of 8 mentioned for the property and at least 1 of us each day had a cold shower - not what you need in December!!! Did not seem to be continuous hot water available. Without these problems I would definitely re-book but it did tarnish our stay to some degree.

      Our third stay at Windyhill.

It’s not the smartest of holiday cottages but it is homely, comfortable, well equipped and, best of all, has a terrific view and safe back garden for the children to play in. I’ve made the points about cleanliness in previous feedback. This time we found an old vape under one of the beds in the children’s room which was not ideal. And this was not John Bray’s fault, but the building work to the house below Windyhill was intrusive and interfered with the view. On the day that cement was delivered to the site, our car was blocked in the drive for a period. You warned us about the building, but didn’t offer any compensation. Finally, a plea: now that the Covid restrictions are over, could you please allow more leeway on the day of departure. Getting a big group up and out of the house, and leaving the house clean and tidy by 9am is hard work and stressful.
