What our customers say about their holidays

    • Heather - Verified booking

We appreciated this reasonably-priced, no-frills, first floor accommodation for our short stay while visiting relatives in the area.

Due to family commitments we were almost exclusively at Trevarthian Farm Annexe in the dark and/or in a hurry, but the glimpses of farmland views from the (low) windows in the mornings were lovely. We had open access to the lane outside, and there was a grassy area directly opposite the property useful for our elderly dog to 'go' on, although we did have to always accompany her (we missed advantages of an enclosed garden more than we had expected, but that's on us). I was looking forward to enjoying countryside and woodland walks through the farmland as per description but in fact due to family commitments we were not on site enough: the only time I tried was late at night and our way through the gate was barred by two large goats! For the benefit of other guests: The flat was reached by a flight of stairs but otherwise on one level. There was a dehumidifier inside the ground floor entrance (to deal with condensation I think) and a slight damp smell in the flat on arrival (which wore off over our stay) but in fact the flat was lovely and warm, spotlessly clean, with no signs of damp. The beds and sofas were comfortable, and the small kitchen well-equipped. We appreciated the cream tea ingredients, the pint of milk in the fridge, and the books and games. The owners who live in the adjoining farmhouse got a good balance between checking on us a couple of times (& answering messages sent via the app) but otherwise being unobtrusive and not hovering. If I had to suggest an improvement it would be for a slightly larger well-lit mirror in the master bedroom with a shelf or dressing table so getting ready in the morning would be easier. It would be also useful to have a direct mobile number for the owners in case of needing to reach them quickly. No complaints from our adult sons who shared the second bedroom. We were grateful to find that the owner had kindly made the zip linked double bed up as separate twins for them. We had been somewhat stressed that this request which I had had made via Sykes by phone on the day of booking (and which the call handler had confirmed by email at my request) had not got through to the owners - Liz had to contact me on the day of travel to check our preference. The written directions for reaching the farm need proofreading (the NT property is Trerice not Terrace) and improving. It might be worth warning guests about the No Entry road sign you have to pass (and ignore). Then the "first" door you reach on the lane to the farm is not the first: there's another property/building on the same side of the lane which you pass first. The door is indeed a good marker for the property from the road but it's *not* the actual entrance to the flat as described. An outside light (perhaps motion sensor) outside the farmhouse/parking area would be helpful for guests arriving and unloading in the dark and also when taking their dog outside. All in all, though, we were satisfied with our stay, pleased with our choice of property and in similar circumstances would choose it again (although possibly not with an elderly dog who gets up several times a night).

The little beach cabin on the whole is a really lovely place, the location is absolutely perfect and great for exploring the beautiful beaches and walks on offer.

The bed and sofa are really comfortable and the log fire is great for those cosy nights in. There were a couple of things that sadly let it down, when I booked in April the property was listed as having a washing machine which I can since see another reviewer has mentioned, I specifically checked this as staying for ten nights felt one was needed, when we arrived the welcome pack said the washing machine and dryer could be found in the utility room. We couldn’t find this utility room at all and upon checking with property management were informed there wasn’t one. This was disappointing as we had packed lightly thinking we could wash our clothes half way through the stay. The other issue which did impact our stay was the blind to the French doors, it is not fitted correctly and was not working and it fell down on our first night. This really impacted our sleep as the light was so bright in the mornings to the bedroom. Property management did come out to put in a temporary fix however it took them a few days to arrive so our first five mornings were disturbed, not ideal as we had really wanted to use this time to rest well and not be up at 6.30am for half of the holiday. Other than those issues this was a really lovely holiday and crantock is well worth the visit for peace and tranquility!

      1. Whilst there was a dishwasher it’s purpose was largely redundant given the limited amount of crockery and cutlery.

For example, there were only two tea mugs. We would have preferred to spend less time washing up but it was not possible to fill the dishwasher. 2. The outside lighting was very poor. We arrived in the dark and could barely see the outside steps. It is a potential accident waiting to happen. 3. It was difficult to locate the property in the dark as there was no sign outside to identify it. 4. It would have been useful if plug adapters had been provided. 5. The information pack in the apartment is out of date. For example, it recommends a restaurant which went out of business two years ago; there was no torch in the drawer. 6. Given that we paid five star prices we expected five star provisions. 7. The bed was very comfortable. 8. The apartment was located in a very quiet area which we enjoyed. 9. Alexa and the smart TVs were good. 10. The fridge freezer was good. 11. Good quality bed linen and towels were provided. Overall, we would recommend staying at the apartment. If the owner makes the suggested improvements it will be even better!

A pleasant little house in a less than salubrious location.

4 comfortable bedrooms, very well equipped kitchen and sunny little garden. The bottom line is that the house is not big enough for 6 adults and 2 children, despite having sufficient beds! I would say 4 adults 2 children at the most. There was never enough hot water for all of us to shower. We could all fit around the kitchen table but it was a squeeze. The layout of the lounge meant up to 5 could sit and watch TV, 2 people could sit at the back of the room out of the way, and the 8th? No comfortable garden furniture, or the ability to fit around the outside table was the absolute deal breaker for us. We were unable to enjoy the lovely evenings because there was not enough room to sit and the furniture was so uncomfortable. We enjoyed our holiday, but will not use again. Also as with every Sykes property we have ever used, the grass hadn't been cut for weeks.

I would definitely recommend this stay, we'll likely be back in the future.

The house is well equipped, we had everything we needed and more. The only downside would be that both of the full bathrooms are upstairs, if there was a downstairs bathroom it would make the house much more accessible. The shower outside was a bonus but a moveable shower head would be more useable, for example washing feet or the dog before going back into the property without the potential of getting clothing wet from the shower. The owner was lovely, messaged us before, answered a message during and after the stay. She felt approachable if we were to need anything. The house is within 10 minutes of anything we needed and we spent the majority of the holiday paddle boarding at Crantock beach which was just down the road. In comparison to Sykes terrible customer service this house and owner was great!
