What our customers say about their holidays

    • Derek - Verified booking

With regard to the cottage there were a few annoying things, not major but irritating.

Primarily a lack of sink plug in the bathroom adjoining main bedroom which I occupied. There was no sink plug, necessitating me to fill a saucepan so that I could shave with wet razor every day. In the same bathroom I had an overflow from shower to floor because the drain hole had not been cleared and was clogged with hair which I had to clear. A minor iritation was lack of a soap dish anywhere so I had to lob the soap from shower to bowl after washing. There was a problem with the Wi-Fi code which is riddled with 1s,lower case i'sand I's and spent several minutes unseccessfully trying to logon. In the end had to t/p the housekeeper and write down the exact code, spelling out each symbol. She cheerfully told me that a lot of people had had the same problem. I suggest the code be recorded in written way such I, capital, I, Small, 1 number. There was a disappontment to find that the main hall where we went in the evening did not serve food until May and I may be wrong but I do not recall any advice on that score in the booking process. We had travelled a good while and were tired and hungry but had to drive off in strange surroundings to try to find an evening meal somewhere. All of the above said it is a lovely property in a super area, especially for dog owners, and I would rebook next year, especially if the modest problems were sorted out.

This is a characterful cottage in an ideal location for exploring the northern beaches of Cornwall, close to Newquay and Padstow, located in a lovely village with a great beach only a 5 minute drive away.

Nearby airport is not an issue. The cottage is well equipped for any holiday, lovely large open fireplace in lounge, good sized kitchen which is part of an extension, great utility room which would be great for coming back to, after a wet day out, nice use of surfboards to decorate the property along with some nice artwork on the walls, great large dining room table, large wet room downstairs with OK shower (though slow to drain) nice garden space at the front of the property. The house is let down by being tired in places - upstairs bathroom is desperately in need of an update eg. Discoloured toilet seat making you feel uncomfortable and clearly there used to be a shower over bath but is now a hand held shower, red sofa in lounge has clearly seen better days, carpets have a grubby feel, the two fridges both look old eg no door trays in kitchen fridge suggesting they were broken, strange use of wooden boxes in fire place, no welcome guide to tell you what to do with recycling waste or where your nearest GP, vet is etc. Overall this was a good place to explore the beauty of Cornwall in a cottage that grows on you over the week despite it being tired in places and in need of an update. Thanks to our hosts.

We had a great stay at 11 Ebbtide.

We stayed for 15 days in September, the weather was great. Downstairs are the two bedrooms, a dressing, two bathrooms and utilityspace with washer/dryer and garden. Upstairs a big livingroom with views of the beach and sea. On the balcony you can have a sitdown and enjoy the views. There is an nice fully equiped kitchenarea with views at the parking (looking out on our car). The house is a newbuild and has al the facilities you need. It’s very clean, very good bed, rainshower. Everything was perfect for our holiday. Also the contact with the owner was perfect. We travelled with our two dogs (Viszla and Weimaraner) and the house is excellent for them. A close walk to the beach and coastal path. Also closeby an area for the first morning dogwalk (Century Cr) where you can meet the very friendly neighborhood doggies. There is always a handwave or a friendly talk with the locals. From there you can walk to St Columb minor. A walk to Watergate Bay on the cliffside and a return beachwalk (ebbtide) to Porth is great. Closeby there is the Mermaid Inn for a good meal and a lovely tearoom Gwenna. We and our dogs had a great stay at 11 Ebbtide. Greetings from the Netherlands.

We had a super week at the Cart House. It's very conveniently situated for Newquay and surrounding areas. There is a fantastic M&S with a wonderful food hall just five minutes drive up the road. The property is very modern inside and super comfortable with a great kitchen area if you like cooking. We found some excellent restaurants to eat lunch and dinner too. The huge bed was extra comfy and we had seven great nights sleep. There were plenty of places to put all of our things with handy shelves and a hanging rail in the bedroom and lots of cupboards under the island in the kitchen. We loved the technical touches- remote controlled velux windows, extractor fan and huge smart TV. There were some lovely healthy plants in the living area. Philip and Helen, the owners, were very welcoming and friendly during our stay. Our little dog thoroughly enjoyed his stay there too and felt very much at home. One small thing that disappointed us was that there wasn’t a welcome pack on our arrival. This would have added an extra touch of hospitality. However, this did not worry us too much as the Cart House was so lovely.

This was a very last minute booking and I have to say, probably the single best place we have been to in Cornwall. Everything from the booking, directions, instructions before and on arrival were well thought and perfect. The accommodation was like nobody had been in before. Very clean and tidy and there wasn’t a need for anything further. Little things had been thought about by the owners. This was for us perfect - comfortable, quiet and a great location for us. Anyone booking this place would not be disappointed and I hope that others get to experience such a great place. We had no need to contact the owners whilst on site but were aware if we had any issues what we needed to do. Little notes left around the property also helped us have a great experience. A highly recommended property that we look forward to going back to again. The booking process and quality of the property is of the highest standard and better than any other we have experienced in Cornwall.
