What our customers say about their holidays

    • A previous customer - Verified booking

Spent a weekend in this house in Torquay. House was comfortable (beds/duvets and pillows were great), warm and clean but facilities basic. Took us a while to work out how to get TV and DVD player to work without instructions. Internet did not connect for us either. Hired bed linen which was clean but left in bag for us to put on beds ourselves. We did not spend much time in the house as we were out all day and ate out at night so kitchen was adequate for us, but if a family was staying for a week and wanted to cook then the fridge was very small. Luckily I know Torquay well as it wasn't the easiest place to find but once in car and moving it was within 2-3mins of shops, pubs, sea etc. Parking was another problem. We were advised that we should use the garage or park in front of it and certainly there was extremely limited parking otherwise. However the garage was not easily identified at 10.00pm at night and as we have a larger car (S-Max) it was very difficult to manoevre in and out of the small courtyard where the garage was. We didn't even try to get it in the garage! The view from the back of the house of the bay was lovely.

The house is at the end of a small cul de sac with no through traffic so nice and quiet. it is well located for visiting the Agatha Christie Festival as the Museum, Imperial Hotel and Little Theatre were in walking distance were events were held. The view from the back of this property is well worth the steep climb up to it. You definitely need a car if you're not extremely fit. During the week there is a local bus every hour at the end of the street but nothing at weekends. Having a bathroom for each bedroom was very useful. There is a well equipped clean and tidy kitchen and the furniture in the sitting room was comfortable. Having a large warm conservatory at the back was a real bonus when the weather was not so good. The only downside to this was the constant drip from the water outlet pipe onto the plastic roof could be a bit annoying if under it for any length of time. I would definitely stay here again.

The view from the garden is wonderful and the cottage is OK in itself. It could do with a couple of tweaks. They provide a tea towel in the kitchen (which had seen better days) but could do with a hand towel in there too. There is also a conifer that you have to negotiate to actually get up the step in to the house which could do with some SERIOUS pruning. Beds were comfy, TV/DVD required a PhD in Physics to get it to work but we managed eventually! The whole place just felt a little tired but was perfectly serviceable as a holiday home for a week. We have booked using Holiday Homes and Cottages several times before (and they are always lovely and helpful) and always used a different property which was the same price as this one but much higher standard (that was not available this year)

Sunnyside was fabulous for our stay in Shaldon. It has parking for 3 cars/boats, an enclosed grassy garden with outdoor dining area, is very comfortable and spacious, well equipped and in a peaceful location (away from traffic, next to a primary school but we liked hearing the children playing). Just a short level walk to the estuary beach, shops, pubs and cafes. Three bathrooms make it great for a larger group holidaying together. Large utility room perfect for allowing wet dogs to dry off after walks and swims, with access around the side of the house. Outdoor hose for washing off sand too. Overall really fantastic.

    • Mrs Johnson - Verified booking

We had a lovely week at Sunnyside House. We were a mixed family group ranging in ages from 76 down to 13. We found the house spacious, very comfortable and very well equipped. The property is in a very quiet area with no passing traffic but within easy reach of the beach, some shops and an excellent pub. For more in the way of shops, Teignmouth is easily reached by ferry/walking. We rarely book the same cottage twice but have already booked Sunnyside House again for next year as we enjoyed in so much. We would highly recommend this property for a relaxing holiday.
