What our customers say about their holidays

    • David - Verified booking

We had a lovely stay at Ash cottage and for a change the weather in Cornwall stayed dry for almost the whole week!

The host Phil was very welcoming and his communications prior to the visit were very good. The cottage is in a good location for touring the area although the nearest pub, The Crown at St. Ewe is only 1.6 miles away (not the Kings Arms in Tregony that you say is the nearest and is 3 miles away) but is a good trek along narrow lanes with some steep climbs! Still the food was excellent and the staff very good. The cottage was well decorated with nice views over fields which is helped by the reverse build whereby the kitchen and lounge is on the first floor. The comments below may seem “picky” but as seasoned holidaymakers staying in cottages a few times a year we think they should be addressed. We were very surprised that there was no welcome file with instructions on local amenities, recommended eating places, bus timetables, maps, contact numbers for vets, out of hours doctors etc. we’ve never stayed in a cottage that didn’t have this information. I found a plastic bag in a kitchen drawer with appliance instructions but there was nothing for the dishwasher (it wasn’t that difficult to operate but some people would struggle). There weren’t any dishwasher tablets (very unusual) and when I asked, I was told there wouldn’t be any supplied unless the previous visitors had left any! Also, and this was annoying, there was only one pedal bin bag and that was in the pedal bin. We always take a roll just in case but as the bin was quite large they didn’t fit very well and I was not going to buy a roll for something that I wouldn’t use again. The kitchen was generally well stocked but some scissors would have been useful for opening food packages etc. and another medium sized pan (preferably non-stick) would have been good as there was only a very small pan and two much larger pans available. We couldn’t find the iron (the ironing board was in the cupboard below stairs) but on the last day we discovered it in the cupboard above the cooker. I must also pass comment on the sliding door to the main bedroom en-suite, it was suspended on a horizontal rail and was very difficult to operate, my wife is no weakling and she couldn’t operate it at all! Finally, the garden had a wooden bench and picnic table but the latter had never been treated so the wood was very rough and you would not want to sit on it in good clothes. Overall the above didn’t spoil our enjoyment of the cottage but if it wasn’t for these I would have given it 5 stars.

On arrival it was a struggle to open the main door.

When entering we had noticed lack of cleanliness windows were all smudged and marked mirrors were also dirty too, cobwebs found everywhere. The downstairs toilet light was constantly flickering when using it. The upstairs landing light also flickered, the master bedroom main light was not working at all (but got replaced when got in touch with maintenance), the main bathroom had broken floor tiles, the second set of double doors in the living area was a wrestling match to open close and lock so we didnt open them again, there was a chip on the hob in the kitchen, all the lamp shades need cleaning or replacing as they were dirty, the hot tub cover was covered in bird droppings which had not been cleaned in a while, they had used slate surroundings the area so be aware that you'll need some foot wear getting in and out of the hot tub, I'd also recommend an umbrella whilst in the hotub to avoid getting bird dropping on you. It should really have a canopy over it like one of the neighbouring hottubs has. Could do with replacing sofas badly worn and sunken and lingering smell off dog ( which i understand it was a pet friendly accomadation but could be cleaned properly) there are some good poits though, the beds were comfy the hotub it self was nice, when your not getting bird droppings on you, the showers in bath main bathroom and ensuite were good. The wifi helped alot as it is a complete signal deadspot, plenty of cutlery and crockery provided. We would stay again if a few upgrades and general maintenance were done. We paid 850 for the week and although was cheap for the accommodation you can see why it was cheap.

It was mentioned in the listing that there would be a swimming pool on site however that was not the case as when we got there some people said it was a plan about 5years ago and not got pushed any further.

Also the cleanliness of the house was not great, there was cobwebs everywhere, inches of dust on top of wardrobes and on blinds etc. Hence all the cobwebs there were loads of spiders crawling about which is understandable because of the season changes but for the amount there was it was not nice and comfortable to sleep with. Speaking of comfort, the beds and pillows were ridiculous, I had 4 pillows to myself but felt like I had 1, I’ve got chronic back pain originally and so has my mum who has got a medical condition where her back needs to be risen and we were both in so much discomfort due to the pillows being so flat. The mattress itself was average, no life or bounce to it. We had a maintenance man come out as I went to put the heating on in my room, as soon as I did I could smell gas. My mum said it’s probably just dust I can smell, as she went to check behind the radiator, the whole radiator fell off the wall and was hanging on by tiny temporary screws. Immediately turned the radiator off, took pictures and sent them straight to the people in charge. Few hours later they sent out that maintenance man who fixed it straight away but mentioned the mattresses hadn’t been changed in over 11years, when the site first ever opened?? Besides all that, had a great stay, liked how big and spacious the place was along with the fact that they provided a smart TV where you could watch Netflix, Disney etc.

We had an amazing holiday in Cornwall.

Meadowside is a beautiful home from home furnished to the highest standard. To be honest the photographs do not do it justice. Very spacious and comfortable, equipped with absolutely everything. large garden where we enjoyed family BBQ's and relaxing in the hot tub was just splendid. Amanda the owner was on the other end of the telephone and very helpful and friendly. Meadowside house is suitable for everyone. Our family are older but non the less they had such a fantastic stay they wish to return. The house is not far from beaches and alot of activities available for all ages. Our family enjoyed various meals out however the local "New Inn" just at the corner of the street was lovely. Very friendly and food was nice. The house is a great base to visit surrounding areas which we did. This house was worth the long drive from Scotland and honestly we would return in a heartbeat. Thank you Amanda we just loved your house and the extra finishing touches especially a bit of night time reading of your family history ...just beautiful x This holiday home is a must and we will return. Thank You again Elaine & Patrick Erskine

Meadowside is a lovely property with lots of space and a lovely big back garden (added bonus of the hot tub!

). We found the house to be very accomodating with everything we needed throughout our stay including a very thoughtful £20 voucher to use at the local shop & some fresh flowers!! The only bit of neutral feedback i would give is, we found the beds in both the upstairs master bedroom and the downstairs double room very hard. Whilst this maybe great for some, both our families found it difficult to get a good nights sleep. Maybe a nice mattress topper could resolve this issue? During our weeks stay we had excellent weather and whilst the front of the property seemed to stay nice & cool, the conservatory at the rear was very hot and there were no blinds to be able to block the sun out, so we found that we could not use that room most of the time, which is a shame as it looks over the beautiful back garden. The house is a 5 minute walk to the New Inn Pub/restaurant in the village, which was lovely & a 10 (if that) minute drive into Perranporth which was ideal! All in all we had a wonderful stay and would deffinatley reccomend the house to somebody else! Thank you Amanda!
