What our customers say about their holidays

    • Jannat - Verified booking

I would not stay in this property again, unfortunately.

It was advertised as ‘detached’, but a whole house has been added on the side now, with a party wall adjoining the two bedrooms, and the ‘secluded garden’ now has the new house’s decking at the same height, with only a low fence in between, detracting from the privacy. Despite it not being used during my week there, I believe it is mis-selling to continue to mis-describe it, but the owner, and Sykes, do not seem to see that as a problem. During my stay, Brambles had not been provided with tea towels, a welcome pack of any sort, oven gloves, a litter bin in the bathroom, kitchen scrubbers, or pedal bin liners. Several items were dusty/dirty. When I complained to Sykes on my return home (earlier than planned, due to an allergic reaction to the cleaning materials and a mouldy smell in the main bedroom), they claimed my complaint was not valid as I hadn’t contacted them *during* my stay, or responded to the owner’s generic text message sent on the Tuesday – even though I had told the owner by phone on the Thursday before my break started that I wouldn’t have a phone with me during my stay, as I was using Brambles to have a meditation retreat (and therefore a break from phones/internet). Gorran Haven itself is lovely. This property was not. I will not be booking with Sykes again, after using them for over ten years.

It was a lovely cottage, well furnished, smart and homely, very clean, tidy and pleasant.

We enjoyed the overall experience and the hosts were excellent. We were greeted with 2 fresh scones with jam and clotted cream, greatly enjoyed. We only had a couple of minor issues, we discovered early on that a frequently used country road backs directly onto the house and therefore traffic noise was often. Being a snorer I slept in the single bed in the side room while my partner stayed in the double bed. She found the double too soft while I found the single too hard, however I don't class this as a complaint because everybody has there own preference. The other very minor point was in the single bed room there was no bedside cabinet so I just temporarily moved one of the two beside the double bed and returned it to its original place on leaving. We found the kitchen good and with everything you needed for a stay, the dining/lounge/TV area was great and the sofa particularly comfortable. Heating was all you needed, the shower was great as was the wash basin in the nicely decorated bathroom. Perhaps a small consideration would be blackout material on the stairwell curtains and single room. The overall decor was really lovely and made staying feel like home from home. And the surrounding countryside was refreshing too.

We had a super Christmas stay at Brambles.

The owners were friendly and responded to our questions (by email and text) quickly. They had set up a Christmas tree and lights in the cottage which was lovely. Key collection is easy, from a keysafe at the property. Beds (both the kingsize and the singles) were all comfortable. There were 3 adults in our party (no children) and the property was spacious enough to accomodate us. The kitchen is well appointed (no dishwasher though), the washing machine is situated in the garage. There was loads of worktop space for cooking the Christmas meal. Heating is a mix of storage heaters, dimplex wall heaters and underfloor heating in the bathroom plus there is a wood burner in the living room with enough logs to start you off but you would need to buy more for subsequent fires. The view from the sitting room through the patio doors is lovely and you can see the sea. Off road parking, which states is for one vehicle, but we fitted a medium size saloon and a small hatchback on the drive so neither was jutting out onto the lane outside. The rear garden is fully enclosed and there is a great elevated decking area accessed from the living room patio doors. Overall a great holiday experience!

We had a lovely stay in Elm Cottage with our small dog, Norton.

The cottage had everything we could need and was well equipped. It was warm and clean and very comfortable. We had the sun rise to the front and sun set to the rear of the cottage. Quite special. There was a lovely wooded area at the bottom of the site which we hadn't expected, which we all enjoyed. There was a good sized slabbed area with a drying line to the rear of the property and views out over the fields. If a larger dog we to stay here, guests would have to be vigilant about the dog managing to go over the back fence. However, a more substantial barrier would have spoiled the very enjoyable views. Vose Farm was well situated for our travels around this part of Cornwall. We were approximately 1 mile away from The Crown Inn, St Ewe where we had an evening meal. Our dog was made welcome. We were approx 6-8 miles from The Polgooth Inn, Polgooth which was a very busy pub (you might wish to book a table), where we and our dog were made very welcome. We had a very comfortable and happy stay at Vose Farm and have no hesitation in recommending this holiday venue.

Smashing little cottage just a stones throw from the sea.

Bed was comfy and warm as weather was a bit dodgy. Kitchen well equipped. Lounge was comfortable and free view on TV came in handy for evening entertainment. Bathroom spacious, shower good n hot and proper thick bath sheets!. Little secure yard so doggo could be let outside without concerns for a mooch. I did meet the owner x1 and was able to thank him in person for the welcoming bottle of Prosecco for me and treats for my hairy mate. We got a parking for the week at the closely located car park for £35. I am glad we did as the traffic warden made an unexpected visit!. Gorran Haven is a little gem and the beach is lovely, local shop is well stocked with baked goods and other foods including locally sourced veg, and the bar is very friendly. Used the chip shop although they did only open from Wednesday to Saturday. That was great and portions very generous. And this week bar shut around 5pm, hot food was also available there during the day. Hours do extend as season gets busier.
