What our customers say about their holidays

    • Jenny - Verified booking

Unfortunately, the experience did not meet the advertised standards of luxury, and I would like to bring several issues to your attention.

Firstly, upon arrival, we discovered a mould problem in the downstairs bedroom, which appeared to be caused by damage to the roof (we took photos). The presence of mould is not only a health hazard but also completely unacceptable in any rental property, let alone one marketed as a luxury accommodation. Additionally, the same bedroom had a broken latch on the door. Moreover, the property's description did not mention that it is part of a site with other properties. This lack of disclosure affected our expectations of privacy and exclusivity, which are typically associated with luxury accommodations. I have since noticed that other guests have written reviews stating that it is misleading not to mention this aspect. We also encountered a problem with the snooker table. One of the snooker cues did not have a tip, leaving us with only one functional cue. This diminished our enjoyment of the amenities that were a key factor in our decision to choose this property. Furthermore, the lack of a tumble drier for a property that accommodates 8 people was challenging. Only one large towel and a hand towel per person and no tumble drier (in Wales where it rained most days) meant that we either couldnt wash the towels or had to wait a couple of days for the towels to dry. The same issue for the hot tub towels. This lack appliance or provision of more towels added to our overall dissatisfaction with the stay. The area was lovely for visiting waterfalls and day trips, which we very much enjoyed.

We had a brilliant week in the bungalow!

It was perfect for our 16 month old and we felt relaxed and like it was home from home. The hot tub and the views from it were amazing, we would highly recommend time in the hot tub in the evening with the amazing starry sky - hardly any light pollution! We loved the super king bed & will miss that lots. Half way through the week we were asked how things were which was good. The WiFi was great, especially as we didn’t get phone signal. The games room was freezing so we didn’t venture into it, but the heating in the rest of the place was perfect and it was quick to heat. We visited The Ela Valley many times, Devil’s bridge and Gilfach nature reserve. We also did lots of green laning in the Landry. We organised a Tesco delivery! We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay and loved it being so remote and quiet. Was definitely one of these best holidays we have had. The only negatives were that it didn’t have much personal touch like a guest book or reccommendation book. We also did not meet Carl the owner and that might have been nice. He wasn’t great at responding to texts in the lead up to our stay. The smart tv was fab but we couldn’t really watch it as streaming was too slow. Nothing major, a brilliant stay and we will definately be back!!!

This is the second visit to Glan yr Afon bungalow.

This time we enjoyed a longer stay of 5 nights in the beautiful Elan Valley. We visit every year, every time finding or doing something new. It truly is one of the most beautiful areas of mid Wales. The bungalow is spacious, clean and well equipped. The only thing I felt was missing was an outside space to dry clothes (a line or clothes horse to take outside would be good) but it didn't affect the holiday, just bring one if you think you will have good enough weather to dry clothes outside! The location is stunning. Rolling hills, sheep, lambs and kites out of every window. At night dark skies filled with stars! It is about 2 and half miles away from the nearest shop so have what you need with you when arriving. Fabulous trails to run and walk and great cycle routes. There is a great off road walking/cycle path going from Rhayader all the way to the reservoirs (probably not so suitable for a road bike as there are many gates to open and close! but safe for kids and those less confident on the roads). There is SO much more to see and do here. Riverside walks, paddling, access to kayaking in the River Wye. Leave the car parked somewhere safe and explore this wonderful place! We'll be back (maybe without the children so we can do even more exploring!!!)

The property is in a very nice secluded area, with great views and you aren't overlooked; great location to explore the area.

The inside of the property is very spacious, some of the furnishings such as the beds are a bit dated and hard. The fridge freezer is quite small, we struggled to get 4 days worth of food and drink in the fridge; there was no shelf on the inside of the fridge door to stand up any open liquids such as milk/wine etc. Be prepared to take EVERYTHING you need, there was no welcome basket/essentials such as tea, coffee, sugar; not even salt or pepper. The hot tub outside is extremely muddy with bo extra paving around it, so take suitable shoes to wear. Getting the lid on and off without slipping in the mud was a challenge. The hot tub itself was warm but the jets didn't really work which was disappointing. Due to how muddy it was outside take extra towels for any four legged friends you take with you. The hallways/kitchen/diner is all hard/tiled flooring which will get muddy, we kept the living room and bedroom doors shut at all times to prevent the dogs running on to carpets and soft furnishings. Take extra tea towels as the property only provides one for the duration of the stay and we had to purchase our own hand soap as well as there wasn't any. We were unable to clean down the floors as there were no cleaning products to do so.

Such a beautiful location, we loved our stay and will have no problem returning here, it was wonderful!

Large and spacious holiday home, we found the property to be in good repair and clean. Beds super comfortable, safe garden for the dogs to be in. The views were magnificent, parking fantastic too, I had a sense of privacy here, even though there’s a farm near the location, you were not overlooked at all, the hot tub was great. I had to contact the owner around getting the cooker to work, as no instructions on how to use it. They were very helpful, the cooker was great, a good selection of pots, pans etc. The hot water was so hot! This could be turned down a degree or two. Dishwasher, washing machine all worked well, clothes horse in the ‘games’ room. My only criticisms- no walking guides, and no pamphlets on the local area or places to visit so I’ve left some in the welcome folder from days out I’d had. Finishing touches, some items I expected to see were not there, no hairdryer, no tea pot, no salt, pepper or extra cleaning products, one tea towel, one bin bag. So I’d pack some kitchen bits. No towel rail in the bathroom. I think I also have to note, we stayed in the hottest week. Impossible to open the windows as the flies came in, so a fan or two might be a nice touch, but overall we loved our stay. Thank you
