Have a Welsh adventure with Wales holiday rentals

Wales really does offer everything you could want from a staycation.

If you're craving the seaside, you'll love the secluded coves and sandy beaches in the coastal National Park of Pembrokeshire. Or if you're hankering for a nature-filled break, explore the rolling countryside and towering mountains in Wales' three National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. All this is before we mention the vibrant cities, quaint towns and the country's ancient castles.

From the scenic hills to the rugged coastline, our Wales holiday cottages are located in some of the most beautiful areas of the country, with stunning scenery all around.

Start browsing our thousands of hand-picked self-catering accommodations in Wales, and let's plan your Welsh adventure.

Why choose a staycation or weekend break in Wales?

With its spectacular National Parks, miles of outstanding coastline, ancient history, exciting cities, and chocolate box villages, Wales is the ideal location for a holiday you won't forget.

The Welsh landscape is the stuff of nature lover's dreams. It's rich and wild with sparkling lakes and rivers, epic mountains such as Snowdon to climb, beautiful coastal paths for rambling, and world-class beaches.

Wales is home to many mighty mountains. Snowdonia offers 823 square miles of mountains and stunning valleys to explore. You can hop aboard the Snowdon Mountain Railway to venture up the mountains and enjoy sensational views. The Brecon Beacons is another mountain range you'll want to visit, with rolling hills, dramatic peaks, and Pen Y Fan towering over everything.

Several of Wales' beaches have been named among the best in the world. There is a wild variety from pristine golden sands and crystal clear waters, rocky stretches with rock pools, surf-friendly beaches, and seaside holiday coasts - complete with rides, arcades, and lashings of fish and chips. For a taste of the tropics a little closer to home, head to Barafundle Bay in Pembrokeshire, for a proper seaside holiday, visit the gorgeous Victorian seaside resort of Llandudno, and take in some breathtaking views, plan a trip to the Gower Peninsula.

If you're a Harry Potter fan, make sure you add Freshwater West to your itinerary. This beach was used in the scene where the hero house elf Dobby was buried.

Wales is a dream destination for history lovers. Welsh history is vast and varied and the countryside is full of ancient relics from years gone by. You can find Iron, Bronze, and Neolithic age sites and ruins on nearly every hilltop from Cardiff to Anglesey.

Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire are packed with majestic castles and historic buildings just waiting to be discovered. Some of our favourites include Cardiff Castle, Talley Abbey in Carmarthenshire, Llanerchaeron Estate in Ceredigion, the Pentre Ifan Burial Chamber in Pembrokeshire, and Cosmeston Medieval Village.

Tenby is a charming Medieval town which still has its original 13th-century walls, a 15th-century church, a stone gatehouse, and pretty pastel cottages lining the streets. You can stroll along the promenade, relax on the dreamy beaches, and fall under the town's enchanting spell.

Wales also boasts its fair share of cosmopolitan cities. The metropolitan capital city of Cardiff is packed with designer and high-street shops, bars, nightclubs, pubs, and lots of excellent restaurants. Or why not stop at the thriving cities of Bangor, Swansea, or Newport?

Whether you want a holiday surrounded by nature or an exciting city break, Wales has got you covered.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Caroline - Verified booking

This is a perfect place for a relaxing break in beautiful countryside.

Each of the two cottages has its own small, enclosed garden, but beyond that there are are lovely gardens planted with interesting shrubs and trees and two adjacent fields. There's plenty of space to sit outside and listen to the birds, and it's perfect territory for a dog to roam. Penny and Digby and their two dogs couldn't have been more welcoming. They gave us useful advice on places to visit, and were very quick to sort out a minor problem in our cottage. The welcome basket was a very nice touch, and our dog enjoyed the special treats provided! Upstairs there's a large and bright bedroom, and the bathroom. Downstairs the sitting room and kitchen are quite small and a little dark, but very comfy--fine if you keep things tidy! Everything was very clean and fresh. The bird-feeder outside the window attracts a wide range of birds--and squirrels! Wifi was fine, but turning it off and then on again is occasionally necessary to boost the signal. The Post Office/shop at the bridge, about 5 minutes' drive away (25 minutes' walk) has started offering very good coffee and home-made cakes--highly recommended!

The location is truly ideal, with the beach, shops, and restaurants all within a pleasant walking distance.

This aspect certainly made our daily outings enjoyable and hassle-free. However, upon entering the cottage, we were immediately struck by a very strong smell reminiscent of a wet dog. Unfortunately, this odour was pervasive enough that we felt compelled to purchase air fresheners to mitigate it. The cleanliness of the cottage left much to be desired, as we noticed spiders and webs in nearly every corner of each room. The bathroom presented its own set of issues, notably dampness and visible mould. These conditions were particularly concerning as they exacerbated breathing problems for an asthma sufferer. Despite reaching out to Sykes Cottages about the dampness and general condition of the property, our message went unanswered. In summary, while the cottage's location is undeniably fantastic, the state of cleanliness and maintenance was disappointing and marred what could have been a much more enjoyable stay.

Ty Twt is a fabulous haven for peace and tranquillity.

The cottage surpassed all our needs; lovely little private garden with amazing birds visiting the feeder continuously we saw a woodpecker, sparrows, blue tits, great tits, blackbirds, robins and chaffinches- oh, and a squirrel. The skylight in the bedroom gave us our own private viewing of the myriad of stars visible in the night sky. This was very hypnotic and added to our sleep quality. The owners were lovely people - so helpful and kind - nothing was too much trouble for them. We loved the scrumptious homemade choc-chip and fudge cookies which we devoured very quickly. Our Husky Malamute, Ariya, loved the dog exercising field and we made good use of it in our short stay. She really enjoyed her freedom too. We will definitely be returning as soon as we possibly can. Thank you again.

Beautiful stay for the week at Ty Twt.

Penny and Digby couldn’t have been more friendly and accommodating. The cottage was beautifully clean and had countless personal touches from a welcome basket to a book sharing corner on the landing. Ty Twt had everything you needed for cooking& to say our 4 legged baby enjoyed the stay would be an understatement! Frank loved the dog field and making friends with Poppy and Peca. Penny & Digby gave us lots of tips and pointers on where to go in the local area and had provided plenty of leaflets in the cottage to inspire our stay. The garden of the cottage was beautiful and the surrounding grounds were beautifully kept. We had a lovely time watching the birds in the garden& using the binoculars left by Penny& Digby. Would 1000% recommend this cottage for a perfect stay!

We have used Sykes for a number of years and have to say this was one of the nicest properties we have stayed in.

The cottage was very clean and had all we had wished for. The kitchen area was a little small but caused no issues. It is plenty big enough for two people and a dog. The cottage was nicely furnished and the remote location made it a very peaceful and relaxing stay. The hosts , Penny and Digby made us very welcome and went out of their way to provide any help and information we needed. The grounds of the property were very well maintained and organised and being pet lovers themselves loved having our dog Misty around. There was a nice gesture of a welcome pack and some doggy treats as well. This is a first class properly run by two very professional people. If in the area again would definitely return.

    Frequent questions

    • What are the best holiday cottages in Wales?

The best holiday cottages in Wales include Barn in Mid Wales, a sweet one-bedroom cottage set in the dramatic surroundings of the Brecon Beacons National Park; Trem Y Foel, a snug two-bedroom cottage in the market town of Llanrwst, and The Cabin, a hot tub lodge in Carmarthen.

    • How can I find a good deal on cottages in Wales?

If you're looking to get a good deal on a holiday cottage in Wales, consider booking during the off-season or shoulder season, when demand is lower and prices are typically cheaper. It always pays to be flexible with your travel dates and length of stay, as this can sometimes lead to better deals. With these tips in mind, you can enjoy a great value holiday in a beautiful Welsh cottage without breaking the bank.

    • What is a typical Welsh cottage?

A typical Welsh cottage is a traditional stone-built house that is usually found in rural or semi-rural areas of Wales. These cottages are often several hundred years old but still retain their unique charm and character, for example thick stone walls, thatched or slate roofs, and small windows with wooden shutters. Inside, Welsh cottages typically have a cosy and rustic feel, with exposed wooden beams and fireplaces that provide warmth during the colder months.
