What our customers say about their holidays

    • Ian - Verified booking

We were so looking forward to our stay at Ryepiece Cottage, only to have to feedback that it was disappointing.

Apart from it being a little tired and need of some attention in places, below are areas which we feel the property on this occasion let the standard down that we have become used to when using Sykes Cottages. This property was not cheap, at just over £200 a night, the following issues were disappointing: * kitchen drawers in front of the sink dirty, and just needed wiping down * bathroom mirror needed cleaning, again so easy to do but evidence that the property had not been prepared properly * pubic hair on top of the toilet and in the shower * bath and hand towels so heavily washed, rough to the touch and smelt musty and not fresh * three large dead hornets removed on arrival, again demonstrating a lack of proper cleaning * the microwave/combi oven seemed to only be operable as a microwave oven, meaning food we bought prior to arrival remained uncooked. There were no cooking racks. We are careful users of property, and safe to say we actually left the property in better condition. than we found it. We do not usually give such negative feedback. Please look into some refund option, as the standard was sub optimal.

Unfortunately our Holiday got off to a bad start.

On arrival it became apparent that the Gas Boiler that provided all of the heating and hot water was not working which in mid February is not ideal. We contacted the Managing Agent as listed in the information pack and we spoke with a Gentleman called Sean. He was in Gloucester at the time of calling but said he would be with us in about an hour and true to his word he was. On closer inspection he said a specialist Engineer would be required so Sean called an Engineer and arranged for him to be with us the following morning at 8.30 and again true to his word the Engineer was on time and within half an hour we finally had heat and hot water. Sean also returned home on the first evening and came round with an electric Radiator for us to use so we would just like to say a big Thank You to Sean for exemplary Customer Service. Once everything was sorted we really enjoyed our stay at the Old Bothy. The Property is very well equipped and is in an idyllic location . We would definitely return in the future

      Our cottage was perfect.

.....absolutely perfect. Cosy, warm and with everything one would need for a wonderful stay in the countryside away from our very busy everyday lives. It was well maintained and beautifully finished to a high standard without loosing the beautiful atmosphere of a country cottage and its idyllic surroundings. Each day we visited a town exploring its history and admiring its buildings, there were so many to enjoy, Stratford, Burford, Morton , Broughton and Cirencester. Each one worth a visit. But best of all was coming back to the cottage each evening to our beautiful cottage, shutting the door and simply relaxing in total comfort, ready for the next days adventure. Our host was very nice, nothing was too much trouble and i must mention her amazing garden with all its knooks and crannies. We would love to return especially during the summer months to be able to take full advsntage of the garden. A wondergul break in wonderful accommodation in an amazing part of England, thankyou.

I did state in their guest book that the towels were disgusting & a couple of other bits but quite honestly although there are numerous good reports in the guest book, l don't know who writes them.

We left there last Wednesday, deciding we couldn't stay any longer. The bed was comfortable but that was the only place. I couldn't sweep up before we left as there was only a dustpan & brush - no broom & it was all wooden floors! The only seating was a small sofa & 4 garden chairs, which because of what they were, didn't match the height of the table & certainly didn't match the room. I had to wash the mugs & the bathroom sink when we arrived as all were dirty & unusable. The toilet seat swivelled round & the kitchen tap moved as well. The owners had said they would be away but l assumed they would have had a cleaner in before new customers arrived but not sure about that. Usually, there is a welcome note of some sort but not even a vase of flowers. We have stayed in many a cottage but although this was pretty it was also far too basic for the price. Totally spoilt the relaxing time we needed. Suggest it has an overhaul before re-letting.

A beautiful and cosy cottage located in a quite location very close to Stratford-upon-Avon.

Perfect for two people. The owner was very welcoming and gave us information on attractions and places to visit. It has a lovely front garden and a space to park the car onsite, relatively close to the house. The kitchen is suitable to cook meals from scratch as well as reheating ready made meals. A suggestion would be to include oven gloves.ideally, essential cleaning products, such as a brush, cloth to clean surfaces, as well as hand soap. It would be nice to include tea/coffee and sugar, especially on arrival. These are small details but it makes a big difference. Wifi wasn’t particularly great, maybe that could be looked into it. The bedroom and the bed were comfortable, the water in the shower was hot and with sufficient pressure. I loved browsing and reading the extraordinarily collection of books.
