This could be an amazing place to stay if the owners spend a bit of money.
There is a date stone outside the property from 1992 and there have clearly been no updates since then!!! The interior is old and fusty, and in a big bathroom, no shower! Such a shame as the cottage is based on a complex of old farm houses and barns - there used to be an indoor swimming pool and bistro and gym which are all closed up and have been for some time (so the locals say). The description on the Sykes website made it sound like it was a little cottage on its own. This could be a perfect place for a few family groups to book and go on holiday together. Our cottage had a lovely private courtyard to sit outside in the sun. Other cottages have the same and some have gardens. Based just 2 miles from Wooler itâs in a great location - all the tourist spots were half an hour away in different directions. I just hope the owners read this and realise that they are sat on a goldmine and with a bit of investment and better advertising Akeld Manor and Cottages could be wonderful!!!

Although comfortable enough accommodation it was very dated and lacked more modern amenities.
Particularly disappointed with rubber hose attachment on bath taps as the shower. There was no reception either on arrival or departure for hand over of keys or registration details. I had to leave registration details in the letter box for later collection. (The lady on the phone was helpful however). There were no on site facilities - cafe, bar, the pool no longer exists etc and although we were a couple there were no amenities for children. The place was clean, however, and the bed was comfortable. The place needs some updating. It was convenient for touring the area. However, I do not think it was particularly good value for money.

The property was very well situated for a holiday in Northumberland.
Close to amenities yet quiet and rural. We were told that there wouldnât be any towels provided but there actually each bed had a bath and hand towel. So I needed to have bothered packing any from home, maybe the listing could be updated. One negative is that the bathrooms probably need updating. The main bathroom bath has no shower over it which most people tend to like these days. The en-suite shower room was equipped with a rather weak Mira electric shower. Also the pipe work was quite noisy after using the taps or loo flush in the main bathroom. The kitchen was great, very clean and well equipped. We will definitely return.

We couldnât stay in this cottage.
On arrival we found a note had been left stating that the water supply was from a spring and to boil all drinking water and/or purchase bottled water. The fridge was full of black mould, there was water running down the interior and the salad crisper was half full of water. The cooker controls were greasy, the ceramic hob wasnât clean, the inside of the glass door was covered in grease as were the metal racks and baking sheet. The washing machine had a âjellyâ of mould on the door seal. And the bath wasnât clean. Extremely disappointed to lose our holiday.

The cottage was larger than expected.
Very spacious, well equipped, huge amount of storage, good sized shower and loads of hot water. The heating was also excellent. No wi fi but we survived without it ! This could put some people off booking. No towels, could be a problem for some people but ones that are provided tend to be very small anyway so we would prefer to take our own. Excellent location, quiet and close to Wooler and the excellent Red Lion pub which I can highly recomment. The Northumberland country Park/Cheviot hills are onl the doorstep so wonderful for walkers.
