What our customers say about their holidays

    • James - Verified booking

Lovely place to stay with a private decking/patio area with hot tub, comfortable chairs and lounger.

Perfect for good weather. Some concerns about fire safety .. there is an internal wood burner, a big fire pit on the wood decking (and what looked like another fire pit in the middle of a coffee table on the decking). The hot-tub is also wood-fire heated. With careful use these should be fine but it only takes a moment for a kid to become over-excited or a spark to land in the wrong place. I'd have liked to have seen a fire extinguisher in the kitchen at least. The lodge is really great inside - beautifully equipped. However, could we please have the instruction manuals for the dishwasher and air fryer? And could we have some oven gloves please? A visitor info pack would mean it'd not be necessary to explain the hot-tub use/buttons and could also include the Wifi password. The property is within close proximity of a rail track (Stamford to Oakham) - some may like to be made aware of that as trains (quite noisy) seem to be every 20 mins or so and run quite late into the night. The general description may need a bit of an update - the bath isn't P-shaped (so what?) and the 'communal freshwater dipping area' isn't actually a thing. Would recommend to those wanting a private and relaxing break as there's plenty to explore and do around Oakham and the Rutland Water area.

We decided to take a last minute break and found Goose Lodge, how lucky were we?

It was absolutely lovely and Judith, Alisdair and Billy the dog made us very welcome. The Lodge was spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated and furnished and well equipped. When self catering, we enjoy sourcing local produce and then cooking at home (on some days!!). The layout of Goose Lodge was ideal for us as it's open plan, so we could cook and chat together. Goose Lodge is located in a small, pretty village and provides an excellent base for travelling around the area. The pub/hotel is literally a few minutes walk away and the food was well presented, exceptionally tasty and a reasonable price. Shipston on Stour is a few miles away, there was free parking and a range of shops including an amazing butchers, a greengrocery with a fish counter, delightful. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. We will definitely be back to Goose Lodge, the combination of it's excellent facilities and it's fabulous location make it the ideal spot for visiting the area. Thanks again to Judith and Alisdair.

We have booked a few cottages around the Cotswold area but none have met such a high standard of cleanliness, style and comfort as goose lodge The accommodation was superb modern yet warm and comfortable, the level of presentation and cleaning done was excellent, lots of space and a stocked kitchen for when you feel like cooking and a decent television for a change for those cold nights in, The area is picturesque and a fantastic base for touring the Cotswolds, but take a torch the village doesn’t believe in street lighting so an evening walk can be tricky, are hosts made us and are dog most welcome on arrival and where always available if called upon , Goose lodge is by far the nicest place we have stayed so far in the Cotswolds and will definitely be returning , One last thing I will add, you can park your car out side your door which is quite a novelty theses days when you hire a place in the Cotswolds Thanks for a lovely stay Chris , Sandra and penny Are dog was welcomed by

"The perfect spot for a quiet getaway or a fantastic base for exploring the beautiful Warwickshire countryside.

The Lodge is excellent with everything you need in a home from home, the bed is probably the best we have slept in (including our own!) and the accommodation was immaculately clean and tidy when we arrived. Judith and Alasdair (and Billy the Airedale) are the perfect host, leaving us to our own devices but on hand for any questions or enquiries we had, nothing seemed to much trouble. The village is quaint with a number of walking routes around the area and the food in the Halford Bridge Inn is superb. Unless you just want to stay in the village and chill, you will probably need a vehicle (we didn’t try public transport) but Shipston on Stour is only a couple of miles away and Stratford upon Avon and Warwick are within very easy reach. This is probably the best location we have stayed in in the last 10 years." Thank you for the use of your fantastic lodge and we’ll definitely be planning our return. ( if you’ll have us
