Lovely place to stay with a private decking/patio area with hot tub, comfortable chairs and lounger.

Perfect for good weather. Some concerns about fire safety .. there is an internal wood burner, a big fire pit on the wood decking (and what looked like another fire pit in the middle of a coffee table on the decking). The hot-tub is also wood-fire heated. With careful use these should be fine but it only takes a moment for a kid to become over-excited or a spark to land in the wrong place. I'd have liked to have seen a fire extinguisher in the kitchen at least. The lodge is really great inside - beautifully equipped. However, could we please have the instruction manuals for the dishwasher and air fryer? And could we have some oven gloves please? A visitor info pack would mean it'd not be necessary to explain the hot-tub use/buttons and could also include the Wifi password. The property is within close proximity of a rail track (Stamford to Oakham) - some may like to be made aware of that as trains (quite noisy) seem to be every 20 mins or so and run quite late into the night. The general description may need a bit of an update - the bath isn't P-shaped (so what?) and the 'communal freshwater dipping area' isn't actually a thing. Would recommend to those wanting a private and relaxing break as there's plenty to explore and do around Oakham and the Rutland Water area.

On arrival, the kitchen had dirty splash back (coffee stains up the wall under the window), grill pan had cheese & crumbs in, 2 partly used containers of milk were in the fridge, one floor plank had slid & there was a 2” gap between planks.

Kitchen window (left) latch was loose. Dried food was left stuck on dining table. Large duvet was lying in the bottom of the pantry. French doors by the wood burner/ sitting area wouldn’t shut (we looked at the handle & noted there was no locking mechanism, this meant the lodge was not secure. The En-suite shower in main the bedroom had 1/2 used toiletries in the shower which looked dirty (black & orange marks on the floor), also the shower curtain was orange/brown on the bottom 25%. In the main bedroom 4 pillowcases had been left draped over the television, we put them on the pillows. There were cobwebs throughout the property & the skirting boards were covered in dust. The WiFi hardly worked & it was only possible to get 3G. We certainly didn’t expect to have to go out to get any connection. We felt disappointed & think the lodge is tired. The lodge was a perfect size for us with a 94 year old in tow. We loved the location & the setting of the lodge. The Barnsdale Hotel was conveniently situated for meals & refreshments, and use of the WiFi.

      What an absolutely gorgeous lodge.

Myself and two friends stayed for 5 nights at Dorado Lodge and had the most wonderful, relaxing stay. There are 2 huge double bedrooms, both with ensuits, and a large twin room; the beds are so comfotable and plenty of hanging and drawer space. The kitchen is kitted out with everything you would need for your stay and the lounge area has a wall mounted TV with sky and netflix etc. The outdoor area is incredibly peaceful and around the corner tucked away is the hottub which was a great addition to the stay and we used it most evenings. Giles, the host, was incredibly helpful and kind throughout our stay (via email) and offered suggestions of places to visit and help when needed. There are a few lodges in this area but you didn't feel like you had any neighbours, I would absolutely love to come back to Dorado Lodge for another peaceful stay. Thank you so much!

It states that there is free Wi-Fi, but that isn't the case.

You must buy a Wi-Fi code from the park, and the signal or speed isn't the best. Communicating with the owner was straightforward. We had to contact her due to the high winds, which caused a balcony glass panel to fall out, to make her aware of this. I also contacted her the day before departure to ask if we could stay in the lodge until later that day. Skykes had called us to offer a significantly discounted extended stay for a few more nights, which we couldn't do due to work commitments. However, when we contacted the owner, it was not an issue to check out at 3 p.m. instead of 10 a.m. on departure day because no one came in after us. The lodge was well maintained. The only issues were that the toilet seat in bedroom one was broken, and the extract fan did not work in the shower in the ensuite bathroom for bedroom one.

Newly built lodges in a peaceful, quiet setting.

We booked a three week stay but couldn't stay in the same lodge as they already had bookings so had to move each week. The owner, Jane, was really helpful and ensured the next lodge was available early so there was no waiting around to move. All three lodges had views across the field where there was an abundance of wildlife. The lodges are ideal for all year round occupation - decking area with seating outside for sunny weather and very warm inside for colder days. Instant hot water was a real bonus and the ensuite showers were very effective. Excellent wi-fi connection. The location was ideal, just 10 minutes away from an array of supermarkets and the historic town of Newark and 20 minutes drive to Lincoln, with easy access to the A1. Would definitely recommend, thank you for a brilliant stay.
