What our customers say about their holidays

    • Gemma - Verified booking

Elim is the most beautiful lodge situated on the lake at South Lakeland.

We had the most relaxing and enjoyable weeks break with our family over Easter. The lodge is of a very high standard, catering to all of your needs including large tv, four bedrooms, three toilets and two showers. The spec is to a very high standard if not brand new. We enjoyed many nights sitting out on the decking relaxing on the outdoor seating overlooking the lake. The site itself is excellent for families. The leisure club is less than a minutes walk which offers a swimming pool, gym, exercise classes and a spa. All of which we took advantage of during our stay. The on site restaurant and bar was excellent and we enjoyed a family meal which was delicious. We loved the lakeside sand area and our boys played happily on several occasions whilst we relaxed on the outdoor seating area. The lake itself is a fantastic walk, we walked and took our sons around the lake on their scooters daily and fed the ducks. Communication with the owner was excellent and any queries were responded to without delay. We had the most relaxing trip to Elim, the best week away in England we have had in comparison to other family holidays. Close by there is so much to do; we enjoyed visiting Greenlands farm, Levens hall and park, Milnthorpe, Brockhole on Windermere and Bowness on Windermere. There are so many great pubs and restaurants nearby and a local Tesco or Aldi just a few minutes away. The perfect place for a family break, we can’t wait to re-visit soon x

On arrival I would suggest a map of the site be available at reception as it took a while finding the Lodge.

Also, having to walk to the lodge to pick up the key and the fob needed to gain access with car was a pain. The lodge was clean and the welcoming basket was a nice touch. The bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable however, the 2nd bedroom had a matress which was smaller than the base and not to comfortable. The recliner couch looked good on photo's (home from home), but wasn't comfy at all. The back was loose and to far back when upright. I felt like turning it up end to tighten any loose bolt's as I have done with my own. There was an upright vacumm which was empty on first sight but wasn't picking up. I took a closer look and found the pipe and filters totally blocked. I cleared it and washed the filters, although not the best it did pick up. Our stay was relaxing and the weather was good and hot which meant the balcony was very well used and enjoyed. The view of the lake was very nice. It would have been good to have the use of a cantilver umbrella as the deck was in full sun from midday until sunset, also a couple of fans would have given some relief from the heat indoors. These additions would have made are stay perfect. All in all we had a good stay, liked the site with all amenities close by. We would recommend this lodge.

The cleanliness of the lodge fell well short of expectations.

The furniture on the decking was strewn all over and the decking definitely needed some cleaning up as it was caked in old cobwebs and debris. In the lodge we moved one of the settees to hoover behind and found it thick with dog hairs so it had never been moved in a long time. We had a dog with us for 3 days but he was light coloured so not his hair. We had to clean the toilets due to where the seat/lid being stained. Also the skirting boards needed cleaning and the windows were filthy so we could tell that lodge hadn't been cleaned properly in a long time.On the last day we stripped the beds as requested and found one of the beds did not have a mattress protector on it, we found it in a drawer. The mattress was stained quite badly. Luckily the weather was hot so I didn't get into the bed and slept on top of it. We put the mattress protector on but the mattress definitely could do with replacing. We have been to this holiday village before but will not take the risk and return again. This is the first time a Sykes property has not come up to expectations but in the current climate with covid it should have exceeded our expectations.

      Property was lovely and clean.

However we encountered an issue with the oven which tripped the electrics. This has obviously been an ongoing issue as there was a sign advising not to use certain appliances at the same time as it would trip. As a consequence we could not cook any food. The owner reimbursed us for the cost of a takeaway. However the location meant we had to make unnecessary trips out as a family at additional cost as there wasn’t anything nearby to eat. We’d also purchased food to be cooked in the oven which was frozen and that had to be thrown away as we hadn’t brought anything suitable to transport it home. Additional unnecessary cost and we were refunded £34 for one takeaway. We also had to have our stay interrupted by the maintenance team coming to measure for a new oven , appreciate they need to do this in order to fix it but it didn’t help us feel settled and relaxed. Really disappointed as we had to completely change our plans and go out when the intention was to stay in and not travel (which I do for a living hence needing the break). Lodge and location are lovely, shame about the issue we encountered letting it down.
