What our customers say about their holidays

    • Ben - Verified booking

My wife an I stayed at the property for the last week in October half term 2024.

We chose to book the Friday to Friday because the price difference like everything goes up by alot for half term, the Saturday to Saturday was going to cost alot more. We arrived on Saturday morning, we had no choice but to loose a day already because of work commitments. We were a little disappointed, we had our towels changed because the ones already in the property had old make up stains on them. Every single blind covering windows had damaged shutters on. There was marks all up some of the walls like someone had dragged a suitcase across it. But most of the walls in the property had marks or scratches on them. Make up hand prints on the walls in the bathroom. The floor was a state, all round the edging of the laminate/tiled style flooring in kitchen that went into the bathroom was all chipped and worn away. Inside the draw under the wash basin in the bathroom looked liked it had something burned/spilt into it. The coffee table in the sitting room had horrible black marks all over it, and what looked like chunks of wood chipped out of it. The ceiling light hanging down in the sitting room looked like it was hanging off. Not all lights for the outside porch area were working. The fencing on the decking behind the hot tub had broken slats hanging down. Plant pots with weeds growing in them which just made it all look really run down. However, we didn't allow it to effect our holiday, and we can't fault the staff, we made the ladies on reception aware straight away because the last thing we wanted was to receive an email to pay a house keeping charge after the holiday, and luckily we did as they made us aware that they were ONLY aware of ONE blind being damaged. But the ladies were really lovely and understanding, they took note of everything we had mentioned. The area itself where the lodge is was lovely, very quiet and secluded. But the big question, would we stay there again? And a simple answer would be no :( and it's such a shame because in the pictures it looked amazing. We just feel that for the money that we paid, it just wasn't worth it. If we had paid for the Saturday to Saturday, I think it would of been more upsetting for us because of the extra amount of money wanted for that week.

I enjoyed my stay in Flora’s Hut although, due to an unforeseen commitment, I unfortunately had to cut my week short.

Despite the appalling weather I experienced whilst I was there I found the hut cosy and quite sheltered from the elements. It was only myself and my little dog so we had enough room although, at 5’6” and petite, I wouldn’t recommend for very tall or bigger-built people as the bed, although very comfortable, might prove a little snug. And although the 8 cushions were aesthetically pleasing, they were quite impractical as there was nowhere, other than the floor, to put them when in bed. I did struggle somewhat with somewhere to hang my wet waterproofs and soggy clothes, and having gone through several pairs of boots, trying to get things dry was a challenge. I like to read in bed, too, so found the lack of bedside lamp rather unfortunate, as one had to get out of bed to turn off the overhead lights. And I would have benefited from a shelf over the shower room basin to put my toiletries and contact lens fluids. Ended up just rearranging the kitchen shelf and using the kitchen sink instead. The water was lovely and hot in the shower, which was great after all the cold rain. I was very glad of the secure garden as Jimmy is losing his sight and wasn’t able to get lost. Sadly, because the weather was so very bad, I wasn’t able to sit in the secluded little garden, but on a pleasant day I’m sure it would be wonderful. I liked the peaceful location with easy access to the main roads. And it was kind of the hosts to leave milk and biscuits. I would stay there again especially in a drier season. Thank you.

Really enjoyable stay at our lodge and we will definitely be returning.

It was clean, comfy, welcoming and inviting. We enjoyed the little touches of toiletries, a kitchen essentials box and milk on arrival. The game room had everything we needed - pool cues, chalk, darts for the dart board etc. We have brilliant communication and couldn’t have felt better looked after before and during our stay within which we received a courtesy call. The location is within easy reach of Looe, Fowey, Plymouth and there are shops/pub locally within walking distance. There is also a local kebab house who deliver to the lodge - Daddio’s - which was useful as we were there in torrential rain and didn’t want to venture out. The only tiny things that would make it even better would be: - a stair gate/pull-across gate between kitchen and lounge area but this is only because we had our son who is near 18 months old who decided to take his first independent steps at the lodge ha ha! This meant lots of pulling him away from the oven/microwave as were at his height but we found the pilot switches to turn these off so no big issue. - the floor bar was sticky between the lounge area and the game lodge (near the cinema room) so unsure if anything can be down to prevent this. As I say these really are tiny little things and we cannot speak highly enough of the game lodge! Can’t wait to plan our next visit :)

1.The accommodation was really lovely, well thought out and furnished, couldn't fault it at all :) 2.

It would be good to have a few more bowls and large plates (to serve on) especially if there four people staying. 3. The listings stated that the pub and restaurant on site would be open, but it appears its only open certain times of the year. 4. Although there was tea, milk and biscuits left as a welcome, (which was great) perhaps a larger welcome pack could be left to get the holiday makers over to the next day to go shopping, as the nearest shop is quite a distance from the site. We only say this as we were hoping to have a meal in the restaurant when we got there and were going to go shopping the next day, but as the restaurant wasn't open we had to go shopping immediately after a long journey, . 5. Please note: these are observations not criticisms, as the place was gorgeous and a credit to the owners. thank you very much for letting us stay in your lovely holiday home. ******* Owner Response ******* Thank you for your feedback, we have now amended the property description to state the opening times of the local restaurant, we have also increased the amount of cutlery, plates and bowls at the property. Again we thank you for your feedback and hope to see you again soon.

On entering the property we could smell damp I think If someone had gone in before we arrived and put the heating on it might have prevented this but that was a big put off the living room was very dark even through the day we had to have the lights on the TV was on a bracket on the wall which was broken and it was on a slant and too far away from were we was sat the heating was at the opposite end of the room to were we was sat so we didn't feel the benefit on the Friday and Saturday 29th +30th of September it rained over night causing damp to come on the ceiling of the main bedroom and over the patio doors I made the owner aware of this he said he would get somebody to look at it but said I hope it doesn't affect your stay but it did on the monday 2nd of October my wife went down with the flu then on Tuesday I also went down with the flu so the second week we did not go out anywhere due to being too ill I have a video of the damp which I've already sent to you it spoilt our holiday we even came home a day early and stayed at the premier Inn halfway home because we was too ill to travel all the way we put this down to the damp
