What our customers say about their holidays

    • Denise - Verified booking

This lodge is actually a nice property.

However, there were several elements that resulted in our stay being less than satisfactory. The lodge itself had some things that did not seem to have been maintained properly. The plug on the bath broke after our first use, making the bath unusable. Whilst the owners did contact us about this, nothing was actually done. The taps on the sink in the bathroom were tight and using these resulted in unscrewing elements of the tap and slight dripping. The door handle on the en-suite is missing screws and came off. The oven door would not stay open meaning that cooking was hazardous as it required two of us to remove any item and even then, the door kept swinging shut. This resulted in our being unwilling to subsequently use this. The TV remote does not correspond with the symbols thereon which meant that we had to contact reception to find out how to get subtitles up. The hot tub is lovely in itself, however, we were unable to use this on the final evening as it had been refilled for the next clients and was not at temperature. This information was stated in the welcome book in the property but we did not know this before we arrived. We have stayed in several properties with hot tubs before, including two at Herons Brook, and this has never been an issue in the past. It is disappointing to book a property with this facility, only to find that it is not avaiable for one of the nights. This should be made clear on the listing for the property. Some of these points may seem trivial but the combination meant that our stay was not the excellent experience we have been used to in the past. We feel somewhat let down and are now reluctant to book again.

Friendly staff who did try to be of assistance.

However the “Company” promotional description of the “Lodge” in particular the location is misleading and not as we expected. There were a number of cosmetic issues with the Lodge, also a window difficult to open and patio door difficult to close and in particular to lock. This was mentioned to reception who confirmed there had been a problem with locking but had supposedly been rectified. The main TV was not working on day of arrival necessitating maintenance call out. Was eventually fixed but only after 3 days. Bedroom TV positioned in front of dressing table mirror, not above as shown in promotional photos. Furniture, only small settee and one chair, not fully furnished as shown in photos of Lodge. Welcome pack didn’t have tea coffee sugar washing up liquid as was described. Did receive washing up liquid on request. Location states Lodge perched at costal village of Little Haven. Not so, Little Haven 1.8 miles drive away. To walk to Little Haven at least 45 minutes which is not recommended as walking along single track lanes with potential hazardous traffic conditions. Promotional description of property includes local bakery, farm shop and club on adjacent site serving meals. There is no actual bakery or farm shop on site. Remote contact possible by phone to order subject to availability Club only serves meals on weekend evenings. Not open during day. Having due regard to the promotional information and description, overall we were disappointed with the accommodation and in particular location which does not give us any incentive to want to return Rodney & Audrey Hall

I am a professional, middle aged, well travelled individual, and have much experience of hot tubs.

Whilst the lodge itself was pleasant and clean, unfortunately I came home a day early with appalling Hot Tub Rash, diagnosed by both a qualified Minor Injuires Nurse AND my GP, and have been placed on high dose, of strong antibiotics (Docycyline and Fucidin cream ) for a week. When I complained, I have been told Sykes Cottages take no responsibility and offer no good will gesture as this is a Health and Safety issue, and the owner wil be informed and take it from there. I have heard absolutely nothing, and am unable to get through to anyone in spite of sending photographs etc. SHOCKING! Hot tub rash occurs because of DIRTY WATER and POOR HYGIENE, and a lack of chlorine and chemical balance in the water. To add insult to injury, the Hot tub is actually out of use on the last day, as allegedly the water is changed and cleaned. Given my rash was developing, we left a day early, unsure of the exact cause at the time. Noone expects to pay a premium for a Hot Tub and have this experience. I STRONGLY ADVISE YOU THINK TWICE ABOUT BOOKING WITH SYKES COTTAGES AND THIS PROPERTY, AS THERE IS NO COMEBACK WHEN UNFIT FOR PURPOSE. APPARENTLY AN OWNER HAS TO ADMIT FAULT, AND THE POLICY OF THIS LODGE IS TO IGNORE YOU. DISGUSTING. SEE PHOTOS. I HAVE BEEN IN A TERRIBLE STATE FOR A WEEK. SYKES ALSO CHOOSE TO IGNORE ME AFTER THEIR INTIAL RESPONSE THAT IT IS A HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUE, THUS CANNOT OFFER A GOODWILL GESTURE. AGAIN DISGUSTING. SEE PHOTOGRAPHS, AND DECIDE IF THIS IS WHAT YOU WISH TO RISK. WE WILL NEVER USE EITHER SERVICE AGAIN.

The property itself was lovely, well thought out , decorated, very clean and well equipped however we should have been informed of the building work taking place in the main house which went on the whole time we were there, starting at 8am.

It was not the best welcome, arriving onto a building site with the sound of banging and an angle grinder, not exactly the peaceful retreat we were hoping for, especially as we left our own renovations for some peace and quiet. Sitting outside was limited due to the noise. Unfortunately due to the temperature of the property too (glass box) we had to have doors & windows open too so couldn’t avoid the noise that way either, unfortunately the air conditioning was not sufficient in the front room. The footpath down to the property needs to be looked at too as the newly laid sandy surface washes onto the deck and steps and enters the property which makes for additional cleaning. There are a few issues with drainage in the en-suite too, we chose to not use this shower in the end and only use the main bathroom. Hot tub needs to be cleaned and maintained during weekly stays too. There is also a slight issue with privacy as the other rental is close and plants are not established yet so with two glass boxes, you can see clearly into both properties and across to both hot tubs. Blinds would be nice on one side and would help with the sun & temperature too. Given the issues above I feel we paid too much for our stay this time and were disappointed but made the most of the beautiful local surroundings as much as possible. That being said once the issues are addressed and building work is completed this will be a gem of a place to stay and we would definitely want to return. Thank you

Lovely property (ie building) with good facilities eg underfloor heating, hot tub, washer etc spoilt by poor quality, cheap plates and cutlery and bath mats etc.

The property was ridiculously hot and we really struggled to cool it down. The cleaning was not up to standard there was no attention to detail eg there were lots of cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, there was a thick layer of dust on the hairdryer box, the bin was left dirty and the kettle needs descaling, The drive to the property was in poor condition and we scraped out car as we entered the property due to the parking of workmen working on the house there. The bin system consisted of a bin and 4 different bags and we received a lecture from one of the workmen who was not happy about how we had place things in the bags The steps and path down to the property were step and full of leaves and not well lit at night our daughter fell down and hurt her hip definitely not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties The hot tub was overfilled and was hot on arrival which is unusual because usually the water has been changed and the hot tubs are not up to temperature The property is within easy walking distance to Tenby. Overall we were disappointed We were going to take our dogs but actually we didn't when we changed the booking to include the dogs the click of one button and one email was sent we were charged £30 by sykes for doing that but it did not say anywhere before we made the change we would be charged for this I wont be booking with sykes again
