What our customers say about their holidays

    • Angela - Verified booking

The Annexe itself was left clean for our arrival and the owner is quite approachable if you need to call him for anything.

What we did not know was that within 50 yards of the bedroom window is a church tower clock that chimes loudly on the quarter hours with additional gongs on the hour all day and all night long, this could be disturbing for light sleepers as it was for me, little sleep for two weeks. The Annexe stands on a very busy main road, the living room window is right beside the road and the bedroom window is about 2 yards from it, so there’s constant noisy passing traffic all day, starting around 4.30 am and going on until well after midnight. The Annexe does not have a fenced off area should you be taking a dog with you. The Annexe is the only holiday let situated within a busy courtyard of six or seven other properties. Each property has its own parking space outside the front door as has The Annexe. Should you want to sit outside then you’d be sitting on this courtyard and really it’s more of a car park, what with residents coming and going, their visitors and the noisy main road within yards, we didn’t feel comfortable enough to sit out for the two weeks we were there and it was beautiful weather too. During our two weeks there one household was having what was described as “relationship difficulties” and given that their front door is only about 6 yards from the bedroom windows of The Annexe, their behaviours, language, noise level and intimidation towards us when we asked them to quieten down was not what we had paid the owner for ! This Sykes experience was by far the worst we have ever encountered and we left, after 2 weeks, feeling exhausted and very disappointed.

We were concerned when we arrived at just how small the bungalow was, especially as we were staying for 4 weeks.

We couldn't however have been more wrong. The bungalow was superbly equipped, even a pair of kitchen scales and an electric whisk! It was warm and cosy with a lovely comfy bed. The washing and drying facilities were no bother being located in a different building as so near by. Anthony was very pleasant and I'm sure if there had been any issues he would have been straight on them! It was lovely to find tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits supplied, and there were even 4 toilet rolls and toiletries as well as lots of extras in the kitchen which we just did not expect. The DVDs were a welcome bonus with the weather being so grotty, but when we did go out we found lots of lovely places to visit; the dog loved the beaches! We found people in the village very friendly, and enjoyed the hostelry in the White Hart, as well as enjoying a superb meal in the Windmill Restaurant. The only thing that wasn't supplied was any bakeware, so we just bought a little roasting tin in the pound shop and left it behind for the next occupant! There is really nothing negative to say at all and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. The only thing the bungalow would benefit from would be some draught excluder around the front door as it was a little draughty during the high winds, but that is in no way a complaint!

I'm afraid this cottage needs a complete refurb which is so sad as the location if fantastic.

It was a little unclean, whilst stripping the bed I could see the mattress cover was dirty, the furniture is old, the quilt cover had patches covering holes, the sofas very hard and uncomfortable. The biggest bedroom was not liveable. It smelt very badly of damp and is not healthy for someone to be breathing in, so I had to sleep in the small room that is ridiculously small, you have to open and shut the door to get into the bed behind it. The steps to the garden wouldn't pass health and safety as it needs a handrail particularly as the patio light wasn't working! The grass hadn't been cut, which I know can be difficult at this time of year, but it hadn't been cut for a while and was absolutely covered with leaves to the point that I had to follow my dog around with a pooh bag as I had no chance of finding it otherwise. And please don't say the usual line "you should have let us know during your stay so someone could have come and put this right", far too much to put right and I don't want to waste precious time of just a 3 night stay. On the last night, I also heard something moving in the side wall of the house, some wildlife or other!

Great little place which was very suitable as a base to tour the coast/countryside.

Very well equipped and a nice little touch from the owners of fresh milk and chocolate bars. It appears from feedback that some past visitors have had issues with the church bells ringing/traffic and neighbours but to be honest I did not have any problems. yes, bit of traffic first thing in a morning and teatime but it really was not too bad, it was lovely to hear the church and be part of a village. At night I just put in some earplugs and I could'nt hear anything. The property itself could do with some TLC inside and out...shower is leaking (the flooring is lifting and I could see water coming up in area under the silver radiator) and chip bottom of sliding door which is just hanging on with part of the plastic strip)....also some blown plaster on back of toilet wall.....as you enter the Annexe there's gritty muddy debris which just could do with clearing up and the wooden bench either needs replacing or doing away with.

On arrival and inspection the bathrooms and kitchen were clean to high standard Bedding and towels provided were also clean and property was well equipped with regards to crockery/cutlery etc for self catering holiday.

There was even a collection of beach toys available for use in outside shed. The owner/caretaker went above and beyond when we had a minor problem with the shower.(thank you). However our holidays were spoiled somewhat by the invasion of what we believe to be pollen beetles on a daily basis. Literally thousands in the conservatory and we couldn't dine at the table in there or leave any food or drink out because of them as they pretty much covered everything. It wasn't nice and pretty inconvenient if truth be told having to constantly clean them away. Note there is a brush in the understairs cupboard but we couldn't find a dustpan. As for the steps at the back there is a lot but they are manageable as long as luggage etc not too heavy. The view and proximity to the beach is what this property is all about and it is without doubt spectacular however for our family the bugs spoiled it.
