What our customers say about their holidays

    • Angela - Verified booking

The Annexe itself was left clean for our arrival and the owner is quite approachable if you need to call him for anything.

What we did not know was that within 50 yards of the bedroom window is a church tower clock that chimes loudly on the quarter hours with additional gongs on the hour all day and all night long, this could be disturbing for light sleepers as it was for me, little sleep for two weeks. The Annexe stands on a very busy main road, the living room window is right beside the road and the bedroom window is about 2 yards from it, so there’s constant noisy passing traffic all day, starting around 4.30 am and going on until well after midnight. The Annexe does not have a fenced off area should you be taking a dog with you. The Annexe is the only holiday let situated within a busy courtyard of six or seven other properties. Each property has its own parking space outside the front door as has The Annexe. Should you want to sit outside then you’d be sitting on this courtyard and really it’s more of a car park, what with residents coming and going, their visitors and the noisy main road within yards, we didn’t feel comfortable enough to sit out for the two weeks we were there and it was beautiful weather too. During our two weeks there one household was having what was described as “relationship difficulties” and given that their front door is only about 6 yards from the bedroom windows of The Annexe, their behaviours, language, noise level and intimidation towards us when we asked them to quieten down was not what we had paid the owner for ! This Sykes experience was by far the worst we have ever encountered and we left, after 2 weeks, feeling exhausted and very disappointed.

It is very clear from opening the door that Monty’s retreat is more than a holiday let and that the owners have stayed there themselves as everything you could need is there .

The place was spotless clean and well laid out . The kitchen utensils were quality items even the pans were good quality and non stick . All instruction manuals are available for all the appliances so you know how to use them . The night light torches were great so much so we have bought some for home . Liquid soap and washing up liquid were also supplied and there were even a few washing machine pods ,dog treats ,cleaning supplies and bin bags absolutely everything you could need . The area is very quiet . Unfortunately we came as the season had ended and the local shop and the beach cafe were closed and even poppas bar was only open a few days a week so we had to travel to find supplies during the week . Ed the owner was very responsive and helpful when we had to message him . I underestimated people’s comments about the size of the beds which unfortunately was a real issue for us as three very large adults with bad backs . This should not detract from the property for others . Ed the owner acknowledged this as although he is unable to change the beds in this property has come up with a future alternative that means we could return in the future . The beach was beautiful and even had disabled access to avoid the steep slope up to it . Our Dog was more than happy . This property is probably one of the nicest in the area and would highly recommend it to others wanting a relaxing quiet break .

We were concerned when we arrived at just how small the bungalow was, especially as we were staying for 4 weeks.

We couldn't however have been more wrong. The bungalow was superbly equipped, even a pair of kitchen scales and an electric whisk! It was warm and cosy with a lovely comfy bed. The washing and drying facilities were no bother being located in a different building as so near by. Anthony was very pleasant and I'm sure if there had been any issues he would have been straight on them! It was lovely to find tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits supplied, and there were even 4 toilet rolls and toiletries as well as lots of extras in the kitchen which we just did not expect. The DVDs were a welcome bonus with the weather being so grotty, but when we did go out we found lots of lovely places to visit; the dog loved the beaches! We found people in the village very friendly, and enjoyed the hostelry in the White Hart, as well as enjoying a superb meal in the Windmill Restaurant. The only thing that wasn't supplied was any bakeware, so we just bought a little roasting tin in the pound shop and left it behind for the next occupant! There is really nothing negative to say at all and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. The only thing the bungalow would benefit from would be some draught excluder around the front door as it was a little draughty during the high winds, but that is in no way a complaint!

Lovely property, well laid out, everything within Samphire is faultless.

It's comfortable and very clean. The only thing that let it down was the garden. The grass is patchy and overgrown in some areas. It lacks a bit of TLC. It would be have nice to have some comfortable seating for relaxing in the garden. The picnic table and metal chairs (which were meant for the front I think, but previous holidaymakers probably moved them) weren't comfortable enough to sit on if you wanted to sit for a while. There were two wooden chairs on the top garden, but they were absolutely covered in bird droppings. Although I can understand that it would be very difficult to keep on top of that. If the garden is tidied up a bit we would love to come back next year. We enjoyed walking Jack (the dog) on the beach, along the lane to the fields and along the path at the top of the sand dunes. We were very fortunate to have great weather all week. A quiet, relaxing and peaceful holiday. The owners did a fantastic job when they renovated Samphire.

Lovely place, cleaner than a lot of places I have stayed but I am so sorry I can't give a higher rating.

Parking was virtually impossible for one car never mind 2. It took me lots of to-ing and fro-ing to get the car onto the blocked paving. The track in front is access to other properties so you can't overhang onto it. Cleanliness and comfort are extremely important, and whilst I am happy with how well the bungalow is kept, although someone elses clothes were left in a drawer, I have had no sleep. What is going on with the bed? When you feel the mattress it feels lovely, but when you get into bed there's a distinct ridge down the centre which means you are fighting not to roll to the edge of the bed all night long regardless of which side you sleep. At a petite 5' this shouldn't be happening. I spent nights awake and days dozing on the sofa, so my holiday was in fact not a holiday at all. Yes, I tried anothre double bed but that was on a slant too. I am leaving for my second part of my 'holiday' feeling absolutely shattered. Pros: Clean Cons: Bed, parking
