Guests are charmed by the unique and beautiful Windmill On The Farm, praising its suitability for families and groups, with special mentions of the stunning views and convenient location. The property's character and the thoughtful touches, such as Christmas decorations and a welcome gift, contribute to a memorable stay. While some minor issues with kitchen utensils and comfort are noted, the overall experience is highly regarded, with many expressing a desire to return.
The property is generally described as spotlessly clean, with fresh towels and bedding appreciated by guests. One review suggests a need for a deep clean, but this seems to be an isolated comment within the overall positive feedback.
The location is ideal, with proximity to nature reserves, beaches, and local attractions. Guests appreciate the convenience to nearby cities and shops, as well as the peaceful surroundings.
The property is cosy and retains heat well, with spacious rooms that have a special feel. However, some guests mention that the beds could be more comfortable and the creaky floorboards may affect light sleepers.
The Windmill is well-equipped with a high chair, cot, and snooker table, and is described as having all the necessary necessities. However, there are some remarks about the lack of kitchen utensils and the need for better soundproofing between floors. Due to the mixed feedback, a precise score cannot be provided.
Guests are touched by the thoughtful gestures, such as Christmas decorations and a welcome gift of wine and shortbread. It's noted that such gifts add to the welcoming atmosphere, though it's understood that these are not guaranteed for every stay.
This stunning converted windmill enjoys a rural setting in the village of Holmeswood near Burscough, providing a unique base for families and friends eager to uncover this part of Lancashire. With accommodation laid out over 6 floors, Windmill On The Farm represents a stunning example of a Tower Windmill of brick construction with a boat-shaped wooden cap. The building was thought to have been constructed in the 18th century before being sympathetically converted into a residential dwelling during the mid to late 1980s. Entering on the ground floor, you are greeted by traditional flagstone flooring leading to storage for bikes and a utility room with washer/dryer, handy for when adventures take off on a muddier route. Climb the spiral staircase to the first floor, home to the spacious open-plan living area where you can lounge and chat to the designated chef, keeping them company whilst they get to grips with a range of appliances, or prepare the dining table for a hearty feast. On this floor, there is also a small balcony where you can enjoy the fresh summer breeze. Venture to the second floor, where you will discover three chesterfield sofas arranged in front of a curved Smart TV, providing a lovely space to enjoy your favourite shows and movies. Stairs lead to three further floors with a range of bedroom options, including a super-king-size, two doubles and twin, plus a bathroom and two shower rooms, ensuring you are fully equipped. Surrounding the property is large lawned area where children can play, or take them on a short drive to the Windmill Animal Farm, where they can feed and pet a number of furry friends, perfect for a family day out! The village of Burscough is just over three and half miles away, offering your closest amenities including a supermarket and convenience store, along with a lovely selection of country pubs and restaurants, including a few nestled along the beautiful canal. Other attractions in the area include Rufford Old Hall, Cedar Farm Galleries and Formby Point, which boasts a large area of beach, sand dunes and pine woods, which are still home to red squirrel. The vibrant seaside town of Southport is just 20 minutes away, home to a great range of attractions include the thrilling Southport Pleasureland, while the cities of Liverpool and Manchester are accessible from Burscough Station. A truly unique base for an unforgettable escape, any time of year.
The little village of Burscough can be found to the north of Ormskirk and Skelmersdale, within West Lancashire. The town centre is home to a number of shops, pubs and the Burscough Wharf development in the heart of the town centre. The Wharf offers an array of independent retail and leisure outlets plus eateries. Windmill Animal Farm is also nearby and offers visitors a chance to see the runnings of a farm while petting and feeding the animals.

This property is fantastic for families with young children. We had planned lots of activities for our weekend but the kids wished to spend more time at the windmill. The fresh towels and bedding was appreciated! The rooms were spacious and all the rooms had a special feel to them. We were worried about the place getting too cold, but it retained heat really well and felt cosy and warm throughout the weekend. The football nets in the back garden were a great addition for our family. We were able to visit a great pub nearby, walk along the canal, and even pop to Tesco for supplies. I highly recommend the windmill for a wholesome stay. As already listed, people with mobility issues may struggle with the winding staircases. There are also some creaky floorboards which impacted on the people sleeping in the lower rooms. Overall, a wonderful stay for us!

The first floor rooms are the large kitchen (with a cosy seating area and dining area) and spacious sitting room with very comfortable sofas and big TV. The next 3 floors are ensuite bedrooms. All the rooms are beautifully decorated. There is also a garden with a sit out area. The only consideration are the creaky floorboards which separate each floor which can be heard below and do not offer as much sound proofing as the ceilings at home. However for us this added to the ambience. The Windmill was well equipped with a high chair.and cot, as well as snooker table, toilet and utility area on the ground floor. The windmill is unique and is highly recommended. All.of us three families would love go come back.

However the beds aren't very comfortable and the property needs a deep clean. We would stay there again.
