For a truly memorable escape to Derbyshire, book a stay at Poppy Cottage.

Ashbourne, which is located at the southernmost point of the Peak District, is the epitome of an English market town, complete with a marketplace with stalls, an odd street layout, winding cobblestone lanes, coaching inns, and almshouses. The town was a posh social hub during its heyday in the 18th century, and many lovely Georgian structures from this time period still stand today. The town is still known as something of a sanctuary for antique hunters today and still has a lot to offer in terms of restaurants and inns, but don't expect a deal! The Dove and Manifold Valleys are nearby for those who prefer more outdoor activities, while Alton Towers, with its thrilling collection of thrills and attractions, is only a short drive away for thrill seekers.

Everything a couple needed and a lovely small town to explore. I would mention though although there was plenty of room for two, five would be stretching it as there is only one small bathroom. We are also a couple in our late 60's and the stairs are very steep. Overall though an excellent cottage.

The cottage was very clean, cosy, and comfortable. The location was great - within a few minutes walk you are in the centre of Ashbourne. A lovely little town, gorgeous small shops, and a fantastic park for kids complete with multiple football pitches (perfect for our football mad boys!). So much to see and do in the surrounding area, we were spoilt for choice. We made some lovely memories, and would recommend Poppy Cottage as a base in the Peaks to anyone.
