What our customers say about their holidays

    • Joanna - Verified booking

We have stayed in 2 different venues with Sykes cottages.

The first stay was Excellent and so we booked the next stay at the same resort, but in a different accommodation. However, the 2nd stay was totally awful. The listing was for a 4 person cottage with facilities for an infant/toddler. This was not the case. The photos were done on a panoramic lens and were totally miss leading. The cottage had been cleaned but not cleaned properly. It turned out that the bedrooms were a Jack and Jill style, bedroom 1 was for 2 adults but had a small double bed (it was infact a Large 3/4 bed) had 2 awful flimsy metal single bed....for children. My husband had to sleep on the sofa because the beds were so small. For me they were just uncomfortable uncomfortable. The very tiny bathroom was down stairs at the back of the kitchen. The only thing good about the property was it was very close to the beach and the weather was great. This property was converted from an old shop into lots of small accommodations. within the one building making maximum use of all the space. It was overcrowded and you could hear the the other residents in the rooms next to us. Totally not what an holiday maker wants. The sofa smelled of dogs, and was stained badly, the sofa was so small there weren't enough seats for 4 adults to sit and chat comfortably, Just not what the photographs advertised, when we arrived there. Just a total waste of our hard earned money. I will be wary of checking the properties out in future and make sure they are what is advertised. I will also complain to Sykes directly next time. We ended up leaving after 2 days into the holiday and finding somewhere else with other family staying there.

      What a shame!

This place is a great location with a wonderful view, however on arrival we were disgusted with the ‘non-cleanliness’. The view was firstly spoilt by sticky hand prints along the mains windows. The bathroom had what I will politely describe as a brown finger print on the toilet wall. The main bedroom pillow case was stained and looked as if it had mold on it. Most of the towels smelt terrible. The house can only have been lightly wiped down. We were so disappointed especially with the price we paid. We have been staying in rentals for years and never have we entered a property so unclean like this and we have never complained about anywhere however we felt so strongly about this as we wouldn’t want others to waste there hard earned money. We called Sykes as we arrived and started cleaning ourselves who advised they would contact the housekeeping team to swap the towels, this never happened and Sykes have still not returned our complaint. This place could be great if you just cleaned and took more time to think about how a family of 6 could live here especially with a tiny dishwasher and fridge also that were not big enough for the amount of people.

      We won’t be going back.

Lots of issues but the main one is the internal wall from the shared deck to the front of the property is very low and 2 breeze blocks that form part of the internal wall act as steps over so my 6 month old miniature Schnauzer pup got over on the 1st night onto the main road so had to be tied up the fortnight. Looks ok from the photos taken from outside. No point having lovely French doors as well as a front door to a very insecure area. Not pet friendly in that respect. The view from the private upper deck is mainly of 6 council houses, roof tops and 2 small industrial units. VERY noisy planes that start at 08:30 which is fine but u only get to see them on the start. No take off. Very busy road in front of the bottom deck with zero privacy. Badly maintained when paying £1500. The double bed was great for me (I’m slim but tall) but will be tiny for a couple so bear this in mind. Nice interior, close to beach but that’s it.

We’ve just got back from our second stay at Twyni Canol.

We stayed in August last year for a week, and booked again for this summer. The cottage is lovely, very clean and nicely presented. We spent a lot of time out and about, because of the great location (easy and pleasant walk into the centre of Rhosneigr) but found that we had plenty of space for a family of 4 with two small children when we were back at the cottage. There isn’t a huge amount of outdoor space, the decking area downstairs, although enclosed, is shared with the property next door. However the upstairs balcony has a lovely view to the sea, and the beach is about a 2 minute walk away over the sand dunes. The quiet side street location meant that the children had plenty of space to run around as we used the beach like our garden, walking straight out of the door and down to the dunes. We had a wonderful stay again. Thank you!

Paid a premium to stay on a building site.

Property surrounded by ongoing building works from 8am daily. Tradesmen vehicles parked all over. Building materials, skips, Port-a-loos, with builders and bottoms not the most pleasant of views from all windows. Property and amenities of new use during the day. Various property issues of health and safety. Contacted Sykes on the First day of holiday provided daily digital evidence asked for help and support Daily! No response or reply. It’s now 3 weeks and still no resolution. If you have a holiday booked here Beware! I have been reluctant to post this feedback however this was not a holiday and people should now the grim reality.
