What our customers say about their holidays

    • Peter - Verified booking

Hi We have just returned from our ,supposed to be restful holiday.

Your statement in the email below Whilst we don't envisage this causing you any disruption it does look unsightly Well it did cause us disruption every day. At 07:50 the builders came on site and turned the generators on, which was less than 20 feet from the front door of Schooner 1, this was a constant annoyance not to mention the diesel fumes from the exhaust which meant we had to have the windows shut during the day. There was also constant movement of plant equipment lifting pallets of bricks etc causing noise and the general noise caused by 15 men working. Some days we couldn’t even get out of the front door due to delivery lorries , with cranes , lifting pallets of blocks and wood blocking the drive and so close to our car. We also have to keep the curtains of the only window of the flats living room closed as builders walked past and looked in so not very relaxing at all. We feel that no one should be staying in the property at this time and that Northumbria Cottages misrepresented the closeness and the amount of construction work going on , not to mention the health and safety aspects . If you had been honest about the times of the disruption and the closeness we would have never booked.

Love Alnmouth and love the Old Concert Room, however we did think the apartment was not quite as well looked after than when we stayed in June.

There were no cleaning cloths, so I had to use a duster for the sinks and shower. No small cardboard box containing washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, sponge for pots and spare bin bags. No oven gloves (although we did not cook in) and again no toiletries, as are provided in much cheaper accommodations. A lot of the pots were dirty, so we just washed and used a few. We do understand this could be the previous occupiers, however perhaps a quick check would be good. Kitchen cupboard fronts were dirty. The decking was broken in a few places and weeds were growing up through it and the outside table and chairs could do with updating. I know this all sounds a bit petty, but we know what the apartment can be like and we were a little disappointed this time. It will not stop us returning, but for the price charged, we feel it needs a bit more attention to detail. Please get a sign made for the parking place, as we had to ask a couple of times for vehicles to be moved.

We had a good fortnight here although the weather could have been kinder.

The location is excellent & the on-site parking a godsend. The apartment is over a pub but there was no problem with noise even over the Coronation weekend. The apartment is well appointed on the whole. Excellent shower, appreciated having 2 toilets, a very efficient washer /dryer, lots of cupboard & hanging space & we would enjoyed making use of the patio area if the weather had been better. Only a couple of gripes; the double bed sags a little in the middle & the slope on the bedroom ceiling made it difficult to read comfortably in bed; a few more pots/pans in the kitchen would have been helpful as would a long-handled brush and/or a dustpan & brush. I don't know who sets the prices (Sykes? the owner?) but we felt the apartment was expensive compared to others in the same location & our plans to return next year were cancelled when we saw the increase in prices for 2024. How do you justify a 20% increase for the equivalent dates?

I would just like to reiterate what I sent earlier in the week, actually during our stay.

We were really pleased with No.2 Schooner Court all round and would like to re-book for the same week next year. As regular customers, you'll be aware of our disappointment with Sandpiper last year and subsequent change to Schooner Court, but we are so pleased we did. Despite the building works not being quite finished, the apartment was spotless, finished to an excellent standard, had everything we needed and is far more spacious than anticipated. We have already decided we would very much like to book for the same week next year please (I.e. Spring Bank Holiday week in May). I assume the office here is now permanently closed so was hoping we could reserve initially via here. Please pass on our comments to the owner. Thanks Nicole.

Lovely accommodation and will definitely come back if at all possible.

Superb position in Alnmouth, was a lovely place to return to after days out. Felt like home from home. By far the best accommodation we have stayed in during our many stays in Alnmouth. Perfect to open the doors and let the sun (and wind) in and the dogs out onto the decking. The decking could do with a bit of care and the small bistro table and chairs have seen better days. Was a tad disappointed that no toiletries whatsoever were provided. There was a virtually empty liquid soap bottle in the downstairs toilet, but fortunately we had a small bar in wash bag, so didn't have to rush out and get anything. Please also have a look at the bathroom door, as it does not shut properly. Thank you for a lovely stay.
