What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Wade - Verified booking

On the whole the property was ok but there are a few things that need addressing. There is no information file in the property so had to text for Wi-Fi password, usually this would be in the file along with local information, departure information and requirements for bins, bedding and towels, also fire and emergency procedures and safety certificates. In the small double room the bed is not big enough for 2 average adults to have a comfortable stay, our feet touched the kick board at the bottom of the bed and we are not overly tall, also the shower in this room is far too small, not enough room to even bend down and pick up soap without burning yourself on the shower pipes. There are also no drawers to store clothes, only a hanging area. Kitchen was nice but there are no cupboards to store food as they all had pots and pans in them, also needs a toaster. The car parking at the back of property is VERY tight and you would struggle to park there if you had a large car, could also do with a sign to say which property the space is for like the other adjoining properties, also there was quite a lot of animal feaces in the parking area. Good points are the location, close to town so short walk to local amenities and close to the beach. A good sized property for a family get together or larger family.

      Mixed feelings.

The flat is in an ideal location with only a couple minutes walk to the beach/train station/town. It also has a perfect view of the beach which was really nice especially with the table in front. We also really appreciated the spa passes included which were an amazing benefit. However, I don’t usually write reviews but felt our experience was tarnished somewhat by a couple of issues. One was the smell of the property, there was a really unpleasant smell in certain areas of the kitchen including near the fridge as well as a weird smell when you first walk in the door especially when it’s hot. We also didn’t feel cleanliness was up to a standard we’d expect as when we arrived there was bits of food on the rug, hair in the bedroom drawers, food left in the cupboard as well as the cheese grater not being clean. The smell as well as it not being 100% clean made our stay less comfortable as it made it unpleasant being in the kitchen area and we were also put off using the kitchen equipment/putting our food in the cupboards. We looked everywhere for what could be causing the smell but couldn’t find what was causing it and we also bought febreeze to improve it but it didn’t help. It’s a shame as these are problems that could definitely have been improved with thorough cleaning between guests.

I had a previous booking cancelled at the last minute and was offered the dolphin as a substitute. I must say I was absolutely delighted with the cottage. The views from the living room/dinning area cannot be beaten. You has views of the rocks below where you could watch the tide come and go. Listening to the sea was so relaxing. The views extend round to the harbour but also across to the Godrevy Light house and other beaches. Not only that you are just a minutes walk to Porthminster beach and very close to the harbour two. The cottage is quite small but perfect for a single person or couple. There wouldn’t be room for a child I don’t think. There was everything in the kitchen you could need to make breakfast and evening meals. Even salt pepper and olive oil was left behind! The shower warmed up immediately and I would warn the taps get very hot very quickly as well. The owners have made good use of the space meaning there was an ironing board that was discreetly hidden next to the fridge for example. I have spinal issues and found the bed to be very comfortable. A very pleasant and relaxing week where if you didn’t feel like going out you wasn’t missing out on the sea air and views.

Kind of made a mistake booking, did not read reviews accurately first then when I tried to cancel it I realised you lose the 200£ deposit.

The location is good- Cambourne itself isn’t nice, but it is really close to hayle st Ives parran porth and Newquay. The hot tub is fab and the outside bit is nice. The place is clean, but as stated it is very very small. I have multiple bruises from the “stair case” I’m 5ft 6 and 12 stone and if your much bigger you would struggle to get up and down them I think. You can’t really chill out in the evening times unless you go and lay in the bed. I know it’s small, but would be so much better to have a small corner comfy sofa made or something where you can relax rather than just sitting on the two chairs. We purchased food for the first night and as we went to cook it the oven didn’t work it kept tripping the electric every time we turned it on therefore we had to throw the food we had bought. We did contact Sykes but only got a response the day we were leaving. Also would have been nice to be able to put the heating on at night especially to dry wet clothes as our clothes got wet from rain. We still had a good holiday, but I wouldn’t stay again and wouldn’t book with Sykes.

The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable. Everywhere was very clean and well kept, including the garden which is well maintained and safe for children/dogs. We enjoyed staying there. We were made to feel welcome, and Jo (the owner from next door) was very helpful and friendly. The cottage is well placed for access to many walks around the area, and close to some lovely villages and towns inland, as well as within easy reach of the coast. Views from the high points are amazing! The road can be a bit noisy at certain times, but we were not too bothered as we were out an about most of the time. Quiet at night, which is the main thing! We were disappointed that the local shop in Winterborne Stickland has closed. Hopefully someone else will re-open it soon. However, Blandford Forum is very easy to get to, and there is a choice there. We would be happy to return to Lower Pleck, and would certainly recommend it to friends and family.Stayed September 2015
