What our customers say about their holidays

    • Ruth - Verified booking

I had my 75th birthday here with hubby, two daughters, one son-in-law and five teenage grandchildren.

The location is superb for surfing beaches a short drive away, King Arthur’s castle ruins and amazing new bridge. Etc. The house exceeded our expectations in many ways but in a couple of others didn’t. However the owner, who lives next door was always on hand to answer queries and more than ready to take on board our suggestions. We were only his second guests since he took it on and so was keen to hear any slight quibbles and to put them right for future guests. The info from Sykes about the house was a bit misleading with the Covid instructions. They said there would be no cushions on the sofas and that there would be no games, maps, books etc. All these things were there so we needn’t have brought our own. It also states that there is a beach 200 metres away! No there isn’t! The sea might be but not a useable beach. Also we assumed, wrongly, that as it is a big house it would have a reasonable size garden. So we brought a gazebo but there was nowhere to put it up. The outdoor space is tiny with the hot tub taking up half and a BBQ and two benches with small table the rest. So if you have a BBQ meal you really need a table and chairs to eat it at outside. The hot tub is a luxury but we felt a garden dining set would be more useful. Also there is nowhere outdoors to dry wet swimmers, towels or washing although an electric drier and clothes horse indoors is provided inside. A rack for wetsuits is outside the front with a hose which is handy. The house itself is very well appointed and tastefully decorated with no lack of seafaring themed ornaments and wall pictures. The kitchen fantastic for catering for large numbers and a very comfy lounge. All bathrooms are great with endless hot water for those after beach showers, even all going at once! The bed I was in did sag in the middle rather and gave me a backache for the first half an hour each morning but maybe my age had something to do with it. Matt the owner was so friendly and helpful that I don’t want to upset him but felt that these comments might help those people thinking of booking up at Trevena Lodge. Oh and the view from sitting on the loo in my en-suite was the best I have ever experienced! We managed to avoid the crowds to avoid the Covid and altogether we had a super holiday and I had a memorable birthday!

      Very comfortable and spotlessly clean.

The games, especially pool and table-tennis, were much appreciated. Very well-equipped kitchen. Helpful and pleasant owners. Good for visiting lots of places, including Tintagel and St Nectan's Glen (both easy walking distance), Port Isaac, the Cornwall at War museum and Trerice. Can also recommend the Screech Owl Sanctuary. My caveats would be that we gave up on the hot tub; just couldn't get the fire to take. This was disappointing, because the tub was one of the main reasons we booked Badger's Sett. Also, the shower has very low pressure. I had to wash my hair in the kitchen sink, which was a right old palaver and isn't ideal. It's something to be aware of if, like me, you have long or thick hair! Lastly, and I think this was just unlucky, temperatures dropped while we were staying and I did feel cold some of the time, especially in the mornings. We were wary of trying to adjust the room thermostats because although the owners said it was OK, the notes ask guests not to..

We have just returned from the fabulous Trevena Lodge.

What a great house for getting together with the family. Ages ranged from 8 months to 62 years! Plenty of room for us all to spread out and good comfortable areas for us all to be together. The kitchen is very well equipped and big enough to take several chefs and helpers! Great utility and storage room available as well as a games room. Two fridges and a freezer and an oven big enough to cater for us all. We loved the hot tub after a day at the beach or walking along the cliffs. Matt the owner was on hand to help with any problems but on this occasion there were none. Plenty of games, maps and books of local interest available in the house. A short walk into Tintagel where there are local shops and a great chippy!

Badgers sett is beautiful, clean and spacious with a calm luxury feel.

We were made extremely welcome by the owners and our daughter was smitten with their beautiful dogs. The chalet/bungalow is very well equipped with a brilliant kitchen, dishwasher and even an air fryer. The log fired tub was a lovely experience and if you have children the ping pong and pool table which doubles up as the dining table is fab. Lots of games also supplied in case you get a bad Weather day. The lounge is extremely cosy with log burner if you get cold. Logs can be sourced easily within walking distance of the property as the town is a short walk away with lots of great little shops to buy gemstones and pasties. It’s a great location to explore that part of Devon.

Badgers Sett is a beautiful holiday let that really is a home away from home.

It is wonderfully presented, incredibly comfortable, very spacious and has everything you could need. The games room was a huge hit and offers a great option when the inevitable rainy day comes along! We didn’t get to try out the hot tub because of the weather but it’s another fantastic facility to use. The cottage is situated in a very quiet part of Tintagel but only a very short walk from the village, coastal paths and beaches. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the area from the cottage and hope to return again in the future! The owners are on hand if you need them, very friendly and helpful and have renovated the cottage brilliantly - a great place to stay!
