What our customers say about their holidays

    • Jayne - Verified booking

Amazing house with everything you could possibly need and more to make your stay comfortable.

The kitchen is fully equipped in case you want to eat in. There are board games and lots of books for adults and children. Three extra large comfortable couches in the living room. TV’s in all bedrooms (but not everyone has a remote) and every room is en-suite which is ideal when you have a large group staying. There is parking for 3 cars at the rear of the garden behind a fence, 2 cars by the back door to the property and two spaces at the front. There is a handy boot room at the rear to leave muddy boots and wet coats, there is also a washing machine and drier in there. The house is opposite the River Greta and if you turn left out of the property you will come to a river walk which you can enter through the Crosthwaite Road Car Park, this walk takes you through lovely parkland to the town along the riverside. If you turn right from the property this takes you turn to High Hill and you can walk along this road into Keswick Town and the many shops, pubs and lake walks. The lovely market was on in the town on Saturday and there are many places to eat and drink however I would suggest you book a table if you can at peak times. Just a point to note, which wasn’t a problem for us, however, the back garden is not gated and this property and neighbouring properties use the small road/pathway at the side of the property to access their parking spaces. This would be only be a problem if you had children or dogs left unsupervised. We had a wonderful stay with three generations of family to celebrate a special birthday.

We had a wonderful stay at Bristowe Hill.

We used it for a long weekend for a large group of old friends (couples) celebrating the 60th birthday year for many of us. The house was superb and perfect for us. It is a large and very elegant authentic country Manor which has been fitted out and equipped to a very high standard and was immaculately clean and well maintained, which is not always the case with large older properties with such character. Sometimes the pictures on the websites can be deceiving, for Bristowe Hill they can’t do it justice! The location is great too, the elevated location on the small hill just on the edge of Keswick gives stunning views, but it is just a short five or ten minute walk to the town centre. Three or four of the bedrooms are absolutely spectacular and although most of the rest are also excellent, and all our at the very least very comfortable and clean, the only reason that we have not given five stars for rooms is that two or three of the them are much smaller than the rest, despite being perfectly clean and comfortable. This just does mean that room allocations can be contentious if the house is fully occupied, purely because of how amazing the best rooms are! We would highly recommended Bristowe Hill for large parties and will probably be making a gathering of this group an annual event at Bristowe Hill.

The cottage is absolutely gorgeous and was really comfortable for us during our stay.

It was really well equipped as well with little extras not all holiday cottages have, which were very much appreciated. The downstairs toilet seat was broken when we arrived and I told the lady who called to make sure we had got in to the property without problems, and she said it would be fixed on the day we left which was fine as there were plenty of other toilets for us to use! I note that others who have stayed in the cottage since say the seat was still broken. The other seats were a little wobbly as well, especially the one in the en suite. The only other little issue was that the website provided for details about the cottage didn't work so there was no information about the cottage or bin day etc. The bins were overflowing and I felt bad about leaving our rubbish by the side of the bins opposite the house but I totally appreciate that this was down to a strike by the refuse workers rather than anything else. I see someone else has said that the beck at the side of the house is a little noisy, but we loved the sound of the water and frequently sat outside to enjoy it. Those things aside, we really loved the cottage. So much so, we have booked again for next summer!

      The cottage was lovely.

Clean, spacious, great location. A couple of caveats though: 1. There is no information in the cottage providing the essentials, such as what day to put bins out. A website was provided for cottage information, but it doesn't seem to exist! 2. The rushing sound of the beck next to the cottage takes a bit of getting used to - this may be a consideration if you like your bedroom window open at night and are a light sleeper. 3. Three of the toilet seats were very wobbly (in fact one was completely off when we arrived). We did report this to Sykes and were told someone would come to make repairs, but no-one ever did. 4. The bathroom locks are stiff. The one on the en suite to the master bedroom is particularly dangerous - please take care as one of us got locked in and it took us over an hour to rescue them - no end of tools failed to work. These locks require attention, but weren't sorted during our stay. 5. It would be good if one of the double beds could be converted to twins. Sorry if this all sounds negative, but I think it's important some of these issues are addressed. Despite the above, we DID love the cottage and greatly enjoyed our stay there.

The house is lovely, the rooms are all a great size, We could not believe the amount of kitchen equipment, so many cupboards full of everything needed for self catering.

We usually find there is enough crockery and cutlery for just the amount of people the home is for, High Hill Farm catered for a lot more . Everything was of good quality from the towels to the bedding. The gardens front and back would be great for a nice day but we were staying for New Year and it was too we and cold to sit out, the dog loved it though. The children loved the sitting area which is part of the kitchen and played in there as often as they could. Very close to the town and walks. There is a sausage place behind the house where you can purchase sausages and bacon which is handy for breakfasts. The pencil factory is only Two minutes away. The museum is not far and your ticket is valid for 12 months. The children 6 and 3 years loved it, so did the adults. I have seen reviews stating there is not extra toilet paper or no treats etc, it is self catering, if you do get these things it is a bonus but not expected in my opinion. The heating was exceptional, it was freezing outside and we were never cold, we have been wishing we could go back just for the warmth. Highly recommend this home from home.
