What our customers say about their holidays

Just back from a lovely peaceful week at Swallows Nest with our 2 dogs.

I can't think of anywhere better to be at this time, surrounded by nature, animals, fields and beautiful little villages. An easy drive to the Lake District, and a nice walk into the local village which has a good shop, 2 pubs and a lovely river walk. For us having 2 dogs the totally enclosed garden was a huge benefit as we could open the patio doors and not have to worry about them escaping! (one is a husky.....say no more). Just up a path on the farm grounds, through the lovely serene pet cemetery we had access to several large fenced in paddocks for the dogs to play in the morning and evening. We were out all day exploring so it was good to have somewhere close for them before we went and when we got back. The cottage itself is a charm, lovely open space downstairs with everything we needed and 2 good bedrooms and large bathroom upstairs. I would recommend this cottage to anybody wanting to get away from it all.

We have just come back from a long weekend break at the swallows nest.

The first thing that stuck us as we walk into the cottage was the damp smell. It wasn’t the cows that live next door but a damp, mould type smell. We dreaded it every time we walked back into the cottage. There at 2 small leather sofas to watch the tv on at the end of a tiring day. They are very uncomfortable. I’ve seen other people write this and laugh but it’s so true. The pillows are awful…take your own!! Here’s the best part…the hot tub…don’t waste your money. You have to light the fires hours before to keep the water hot, then keep stirring the tub with a huge paddle to keep the warmth moving about, then place 2 heavy covers over it until it’s time to stir it again. It’s not a hot tub…it’s a couldron!!! Other than that..there’s 2 great pubs and some lovely walks nearby!!!

We really enjoyed our stay at Mousehole Cottage.

In a beautiful and tranquil, rural location, it's close to amenities while still enabling the feeling of getting away from it all. We received a warm welcome, and felt every detail has been thoughtfully considered, from milk in the fridge to spare dog bowls and poop bags, dishwasher tablets to plenty of reading matter. The property was beautifully clean and we really appreciate use of the agility course too - our 12 year old dog needed to let off some steam in the cooler evenings! The poultry onsite definitely added an extra layer of personality to the stay and it's lovely to see them ambling around and occasionally coming to say hello. The locals are all friendly too, from the local shop to the pub, we felt very at home. Would definitely book again, we highly recommend!

The Cottage is situated right next to a farm and this did create a bit of a problem.

The barn was situated almost adjoining the cottage, and there was a problem with a cow which seemed to be in distress and constantly mood for two days which caused us a little stress and a sleepless night ( I don't want to sound unsympathetic to the plight of the cow). The location is quite isolated, You couldn't really go anywhere without driving, but the grounds on which the cottage was situated was very pleasant, with Peacocks, Chickens and Geese wandering freely. The cottage was fairly well equipped but certain things were missing such as bedside cabinets, (which I would have found very useful) The Gentleman who ran the place was very nice, and although there were a couple of problems, our stay was good.

Had a very peaceful Christmas in a gem of a cottage which was clean, very warm, comfortable and in the ideal rural setting.

The peace and quiet was greatly appreciated, the travel instructions were spot on and the on site parking a great advantage. The village shop in Armathwaite is superbly well stocked and the staff friendly and helpful. The countryside surrounding the cottage offers much to explore - woodland, riverside walks and many interesting villages, not forgetting the historic and beautiful Settle to Carlisle railway. A lot to investigate further for a future visit. Thanks to Nick and family and the others on site that we met for the friendly welcome and for making our Christmas break so memorable. Hope to meet with you all again. Kind regards, John, Susan and Lyndsay Stanton, Felton, Northumberland.
