What our customers say about their holidays

    • Marsha - Verified booking

Lovely little base for exploring, we booked ridiculously late this year due to circumstances however this met all our main requirements, beach in walking distance, convenient shops & pub.

Yes it's small - but even with two teenage boys (one taking over the sofa bed) we were quite happy even with a couple on rainy days. Shower & shower room is a perfectly adequate size, window was tricky to open for ventilation but turned out it was just stiff not locked so all good. Yes the kitchen is small but we managed to eat round the table with all four of us. Garden is lovely, the bbq cover is perished so does leak (we did have some torrential rain), we did do a bit of a repair with duct tape and left a note to inform the owner for awareness - I'd recommend checking if it needs draining and drying off before you plan to light to avoid disappointment. I was worried it'd be noisy with train and A55 so close but it surprisingly was really quiet. The train is really useful for day trips as road traffic can be awful if you want to visit certain places in the summer - we went to Conwy, roads were at a standstill a lot of the time we were there but train was so easy. Carpet in the little hall could do with looking at as it's loose on the edge to the front room which could create a trip hazard. We almost had a crisis on arrival as there was no tea pot (we drink a lot of tea) however our initial explore of the area uncovered a community shop on the high street which provided a small stack of holiday reading - and a teapot for just a few pounds which seemed like the perfect solution to us - the pot was left behind for future tea slurping visitors. Yes I could have contacted the owners and asked but the shop is well worth a visit if you've forgotten anything, I enjoyed looking round so I don't begrudge it at all. Beach is pebbles at high tide (consider beach shoes or sandals) but once the tide goes down there is huge area of sand which tends to create large sand pools ideal for children. 100% recommend and would visit again.

I stayed at the cottage because I had walked past it a few times on the way to Moel Siabod, and thought it looked nice.

It’s 12 minutes away from Pen y Pass and a short drive from Betws-y-Coed, so the location is ideal for hiking and in a quiet location, especially if the other two cottages are unoccupied, although the walls are so thick, we didn’t hear them. The single track road to the cottage is steep and I hit a rock trying to let a van pass, so I need a new tyre, not a great start. On arrival it wasn’t clear which cottage was mine, not a big deal, but a sign would have helped so I didn’t disturb the neighbour to the left, walking past their window. Outside to the rear, the broken old plastic box next to the heat pumps, with rubbish in doesn’t give a nice image. Inside the cottage is nice, small and rustic, but it needs to be refreshed. The sofa was ripped and wood showing through, the dining chairs were split and the cushions collapsed. It didn’t matter how high the heating was turned up, the downstairs was cold, so the wood burning stove is essential. The kitchen was a mixture of glasses and crockery and the knives were blunt, really frustrating when trying to cook. Upstairs was lovely and warm, the double bedroom to the front was a good size with comfy bed, the back room with bunk beds was a little small but again nice. The bathroom was ok but the water stopped completely on three occasions, and wouldn’t come back on for ages, this is a major inconvenience mid shower or when you have to go downstairs to wash your hands. The shower curtain is far too small to shower in and just gets in the way and the skylight in the bathroom leaked when it rained. Such a shame as the location is ideal and if it was improved a little it would be an amazing place to stay.

The cottage is in a beautiful village.

The location of the village and the walks around the area are breath taking. We were concerned when we booked that there maybe noise from the pub, but this was never an issue even on Friday and Saturday nights. There is a wonderful golf club about a mile from the property with views over the mountains and out to sea which are amazing. Non members can use the course, but you need your own clubs. Overall the property is as you see from the photos. It was of the standard we were expecting and on all the surface areas you can see the property is very clean. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you could need. There is parking at the front of the cottage. On arriving we had to move a bedside cabinet. This revelled carpet moths and their larva. The property had an infestation of carpets moths. This spoilt our whole week, (we had to hoovered the whole house, but the hoover had very limited suction) we could not unpack, kept all our clothes in suitcases or took them to the car, in fear that we would take moth larva back to our home. Once home we spent hours hoovering our cases, shaking out all our clothes in the garden and then had to wash everything we had taken. The experience was very stressful and upsetting. We sincerely hope the owners replace the carpets. You can not morally rent a property with moth infected carpets. Once this issue is resolved the property is ideal for exploring this area of North Wales.

We have stayed in these cottages several times before and we have always been cosy , warm and clean.

The under floor heating is a real bonus after a long days hiking. We had another fantastic week exploring the local mountains, paths and villages. We parked the car for a couple of days and walked Moel Siabod, Capel Curig and the river walk. We had snow which was a bonus which stayed around for 5 days and made the scenery even more spectacular . The faciilties are excellent, comfy warm beds, great equipped kitchen , washing machine , fridge and freezer ( Tesco will deliver just before the snow ) The owners are so friendly and helpful and offered to get us out of the snow but we were ok . The outside space has a washing line if needed and also seats and benches. The location and views are incredible. The shower is amazing so hot and powerful. The extras left for us where a great help . Thank you so much Elwyn and Lorri for another fantastic stay , we will be back and recommend to anyone needing a complete break away from it all. Please be aware this is a working hill farm with sheep so please be respectful and close gates. Best Wishes Martin and Ken

Capel Cottage is a beautiful Welsh cottage which was presented spotlessly clean and with a delightful welcome pack.

Views all around the cottage are stunning and amazing walks can be started from the cottage (one hour walk to Conwy over the hill) with spectacular views. We loved the outdoor spaces front and back which were peaceful with seating areas to relax after a busy day. The cottage had everything you need and nothing you didn't, we took advantage of the spice rack, coffee maker and ice cubes which was great. The bed was one of the most comfortable we've ever slept in and the sun room attached to the bedroom was a fabulous little space to play card games or read. Parking was never an issue and the pub next door was busy but never obtrusive. Only feedback to mention was no welcome information which told us of general house info. In addition the shower curtain situation was cheap and is not up to the standard of the rest of the property and needs reviewing. But I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others. We were sad to leave and are definitely planning on returning!
