On entering the property there was an overwhelming smell of ash, soot and fust.
The front door and windows were open, and this did nothing to lose the smell; which stayed with us the full week! The cooker and oven were dirty. Near the oven door on the cupboard next to it, was a big scorch mark, given time will catch fire. Unfortunately we did not use it, which meant having to eat out, which we did not budget for, hence booking a place which we could cook in was a given. The worktop was sticky to touch, despite it being wiped by myself daily. We had no running hot water throughout our stay, and had to boil a kettle to wash the few pots we used. The fridge was clean. The bathroom needs a deep clean. There was mould on the seal, and between the tiles. There was someone else's hair near the shower unit and their used scrunchy. The towel's did not smell freshly laundered and were very thin. No running hot water from the sink tap in the bathroom. The beds need either replacing or a mattress topper put on top of them. There were black bits/things on the scatter cushions and the previous tenants tissues under one of the single beds. Again the bedding did not smell like it had been freshly laundered. The carpets were thread-bare in places, with stains scattered around the upstairs carpets. The paint work had a thick layer of dust and felt sticky and grimy to touch. If my child had, had his way we would not have stayed the first night, and just returned home the same day we arrived. I have asked the owner for half of the fee I paid to be reimbursement if not the full payment. The owner gives himself 11-3 to do a turnaround between visitors, and works a job as well, this clearly is not enough time to clean the cottage and the hot tub. Can you please request a full refund, I do have photos to support my review.

Acorn cottage was really lovely and a great location.
The property itself was very clean on our arrival and we done a pre order of a breakfast pack which was in the fridge ready for our first morning. I would recommend this as after a 4 hr journey it was nice to just get there and start enjoying our holiday without having to go shops straight away. It also had tea, coffee, fresh milk and biscuits for when we got there. The hot tub was lovely and clean and had such a lovely veiw which me and my husband enjoyed every day of been there and having sheep as our neighbours was great. We also enjoyed the lovely log fire esp as we went in the winter. The only thing I think the property could do with is some hooks around the place to hang things like coats or dressing gowns and a shoe rack would have been very handy. Just another thing to keep in mind there is no doors in the property separating any of the rooms including bathroom, luckily for us me and my husband don't mind but some couple's might not like that there isn't much privacy in the bathroom. I would certainly book to go again.

Steve was the perfect host.
It was my gf bday and requested in advance for roses to be on the bed on arrival to which he did without bother. It was extremely thoughtful. We arrived gone midnight after a 7 hour drive but next day were greeted by Steve who was very polite and thorough giving us a tour of the grounds. Showing us how the hottub works and giving us a tour of the land. Steve checked in during the week to make sure we had everything we needed and suggested places for us to visit in the nearby area. The property itself was cozy, plenty of firewood provided to light the house fire, incredible heat for those cosy nights in, everything in the property was spot on from the shower to the bed to the sofa and cooking facilities, the bed was extremely clean and comfy, the bathroom and facilities were spot on clean and the kitchen and cooking area and utensils were all clean and fresh. Overall it was a brilliant stay and we will definitely be returning in the near future. Matt + Rach

Loved our stay here, itâs got everything that you need in the cottage itself, and itâs a few minutes drive to Bowness.
The view out on the balcony is amazing! We were luckily enough to even see, what we believe, a buzzard! Which was a magical sight. The cottage itself is open plan, with walls being used as a divider, it is very airy and cosy. It was extremely clean, and a folder was left with instructions for everything and also details for attractions and walks. The site is also great, plenty of parking if you do need more than 1 space that comes with the cottage itself, and the site is peaceful, we were never disrupted by cars, or anything for that matter! Itâs a great location, you can stay close to Windermere and Bowness - which has plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants and takeaways. But itâs also a great location if you wish to travel further too. We would 100% stay here again, and we more than likely will! There are plenty of other accommodations on the site too, so if this doesnât suit your needs, then Iâm sure one of the others will.
