Just got home from a week at 14, The Promenade.

We are 2 female pensioners who just needed a peaceful week. On arrival it was very nice, the house was clean and beautifully warm and the view was amazing. A bit sparse in the lounge having only one lamp or it was the big light which wasn’t cosy. The 2 settees have been well used, the cushions need re filling as they are not vey comfortable and you can feel the base when you have been sat on the for a while. The lighting and settees will not be that much of a problem in the summer months because you will be out most of the day ,but if they are letting this property out throughout the winter months these things need addressing. I had the front bedroom and my friend had the twin room. The view from my bedroom was amazing and the rocking chair in the room was a lovely extra. Again only one bedside lamp. Now the bad news , the double bed was horrendous, !!!!!! I had read the reviews from a couple of years ago and the bed was mentioned a few times so I was expecting that the owners would have put this right by now. Sadly not, the mattress that was supposed to fit into the wooden base was smaller than the base, it was quite obvious that they had done it on the cheap because I have never slept on any thing so uncomfortable. Also the noise, it has the most horrendous creek ever time you turned over, simply awful. The cheap pillows and bedding did not help. The bedding did not smell fresh , it smelled stale ,and the sheets and cover etc were so old and faded and tissue thin, no pillow protectors so they were smelly. My sleep for the week was awful, goodness knows how a couple would manage in that bed, it would be a nightmare. Had I booked in the summer months at over a thousand pounds for a week I would have had the owner down immediately to put this right. On rainy days when we stayed in I kept falling asleep in the chair because of lack of sleep at night. In the description online there is nothing to say that there is an iron, ironing board, hairdryer etc, so we took all those things with us and when we got there , there was infact all of the above. I suggest it would be a good idea to put that in the description section. The next question would be would we go again. ? Only if there was a new bed and new sofas downstairs, failing that No because of the lack of sleep.

Just returned from a great break at Engine Room Cottage, Sledmere.

The Cottage is located on the outskirts of the village on the Bridlington Rd. Although a main road the traffic, was minimal and road noise zero. The Cottage is brilliantly furnished and offers 3 separate bathrooms, that was brilliant to our group of 3 couples. Two bedrooms are on the upper floor incorporating en-suite, whilst the third with 2 single beds is on the lower floor with an adjacent bathroom. The lounge/kitchen is of open plan design, with patio doors offering access to limited outdoor seating. The owner was a very obliging individual and couldn’t do enough for us, even though located some 50 miles away. The Cottage is superbly kitted out with every utensil you could imagine, games, dvd and books available. We were somewhat limited in having access to Sledmere House as it was closed for the season, but our limited siting gave a desire to return and view at a later date.. We ate in the Triton Inn and I would highly recommend this, with a great selection of food and drinks. We walked through to the other nearest pub/restaurant at Helperthorpe on Saturday afternoon, but were disappointed to discover that both locations didn’t open until 6.00pm and an 11 mile walk does give you appetite and thirst. Visited Malton on Friday, the micro pub Brass Castle, well worth a visit. If using Taxis, do some homework as the rates quoted from Sledmere to Malton, varied between £75, £45 & £33. Malton is a lovely visit and I would recommend. Beware of limited parking at the Cottage and we did have s number of issues, but to be fair, it is recommended for 2 cars, but unfortunately we had 3. Overall great location, great faculties, very clean and with a very obliging owner on the end of the phone.

The photos make the place look much bigger than it is.

We booked for ourselves and two family members who were in their 80 s. Having booked it as dog friendly we were amazed to find the only access to the garden was through the main bedroom via the double doors. This bedroom is far superior to the second bedroom which is so overcrowded with the 2 single beds it makes storage very difficult. The arrangement meant my husband and I had to have the bigger and better room simply so the dog could be let out. It also meant that there was no window to open so there was condensation around the windows and the room had a very damp and musty smell. The rooms are very dated and lights did not work round the beds which meant having a bedside lamp which was too big. If the double bed was put into the smaller room and the singles swapped into the other it would provide more storage and space. As often is the case sleeping 4 means 4 cups, plates, bowls and cutlery. If at least 8 of everything was provided then the dishwasher would be full when put on instead of having to leave it half empty. All that being said, the place was warm and clean and the beds very comfortable. I think it should be made clear in the description than the only access to the garden is through a bedroom.

Corner Bungalow is a very cosy house had almost everything we could need.

Just one or two things we felt should have been done. The bathroom toilet had brown marks in the bottom need cleaned with bleach, items left in the bathroom cabinet. there as a bath towel each but no hand towels (I found one in the wardrobe) Bedroom was lovely the only problem it was very warm during the night not window to open, could not leave door open all night. Some kitchen items needed cleaning before use, microwave also needed a clean. Kick plate beneath sink should have been put back un - tidy looking. A T.V. in the kitchen would have been a good thing as we sat in their for meals. Lounge lovely and cosy loved it. Lovely garden back and front shame it was not warm enough to sit in much. We booked it because it is very close to a friend I have in Driffield. Another good thing would be to have some TAXI numbers added in your information folder. Information as to when dust bins should go out should be in information folder. The garden bin had not been emptied for a while so full. We could not find any keys for shed/garage anywhere. Just one or two things I myself feel the lovely place needed.

The holiday cottage was immaculate, it was obviously brand new with the decor and equipment all being new.

It had everything we needed to cook, we cooked in the house every day and didn’t find anything missing that was needed. The beds were clean and comfortable with plenty of storage in both rooms for our clothes. The bathrooms were clean and a towel for each person was provided (also nice and clean). There was space for coats and shoes inside the house but also space for sandy shoes on a mat inside the door to stop the lovely carpets from getting dirty. The house was decorated and furnished beautifully and a really plus point was being able to see the sea out of the bay windows upstairs and down, a feature had been made of these by placing a chair in them to sit and look out at the view. We travelled with a 4 and 2 year old and so the little secure garden out the back was great as they could play out there. I would have no hesitation recommending this property for rental and would be happy to come back and use this house again with or without grandchildren to visit Withernsea.
