What our customers say about their holidays

    • Susan Marie - Verified booking

A fabulous week in a beautiful location.

The cottage is extremely homely, clean and inviting. The lights had been left on for our arrival and we were welcomed by a bottle of wine and a box of Celebration chocolates. All beds were super comfy and clean. Towels were large, fluffy and smelt delightful as did the property when we arrived. The Kitchen had everything we needed to make our stay a home away from home. Morrissons was also a short drive away. The lounge was beautiful and there were amazing views from every window, this was also the case downstairs. The enclosed garden was amazing for my daughters and my 2 dogs to explore and was one of the tidiest gardens I have ever been to in a holiday cottage. There was also an extremely clean BBQ and seating available to use at leisure. Edwin greeted us on arrival and showed us how to use the cooker and made us feel very welcome. He also made it very clear if we needed anything at anytime to make contact, which was reassuring being there on my own with two children. The house was a great place to explore South Wales. Pembrey National Park was amazing for the beach and forest walks. The dogs and my daughters loved it. It was £8 to park all day. There were many activities you could participate in and clean toilets and cafes on site. Tenby was also a beautiful place to visit for shopping and the beach. As National Trust members there are many National Trust places to visit. We especially liked Dinefwr, dogs were also welcome. We visited castles and many other little villages/towns. The Red Lion (less than 3 mins drive from cottage) recommended by Edwin, served amazing food and staff were friendly and welcoming. We booked as suggested by Edwin and we were really glad we did because it was full and this was on a Wednesday night! Both Edwin and Mary came to say farewell, which I thought was a lovely end to the holiday. Thank you to Edwin and Mary for sharing your beautiful cottage and gardens with us. We will definitely be visiting again.

I’m sorry to say we did find it difficult there due to these things - The stairs to living room are very steep and the individual steps very narrow so difficult to get up & especially down.

There was no mention of this in the details or we wouldn’t have booked it as my husband has not long had knee surgery. The only Tv was up in that room as well so had to go up but one of our dogs wouldn’t go up at all& the other wouldn’t go down once up so it was hard work carrying them (& dangerous too)! The doors would not stay shut at all none of them including bedrooms- the bathroom door needs a working lock on it as it’s right off the kitchen! The dogs could just barge in & leave the door open! These were the main things and unfortunately were things that would definitely stop us booking again! The surrounding were nice & the owner was nice & did say to call on him if we needed anything but there wasn’t anything he could have done about it whikst we were there anyway (however it does need to be put in the details about stairs). If we had gone a few months ago my husband would not have managed these stairs at all. But is able to manage other stairs fine. Plus there are several locked doors that go straight through to the owners house as well (weren’t a problem for us) but which were not mentioned in the description. It felt damp and musty in the whole house as well (& we are used to living in a very old house)!

We had a wonderful stay at The Garden Cottage, the garden was truly amazing and our dog loved exploring.

The cottage was very spacious and comfortable. It was great to have the dining area downstairs with such a good sized table and on arrival, a very welcoming bottle of wine and chocolates from Mary and Edwin. There was so much space upstairs with wonderful views and although only the two of us, I can see it being a huge bonus to a family. (I wish we’d stayed here when our children were younger). Although Edwin and Mary live in the main house next door, it is still very private and tranquil. Occasionally one of their friendly dogs would poke a nose through the gate to say hello and see what was going on, or Edwin, on his horse, would stop for a chat while we were out for a little walk. The added bonus of the ruined house and its history made the accommodation more special and we enjoyed walking around the gardens, even the wooded driveway up to the house provided a peaceful evening walk. There are some beautiful places to visit nearby, and some great pubs with good food. We feel very fortunate to have found such a lovely cottage for our week in Wales, thank you Mary and John and Sykes Cottages.

Spent five days here with our two cats that are normally house cats but we like to give them a taste of nature with their harness's and leads attached.

The grounds around the cottage are superb for walking your pets (cats or dogs). The cottage itself is really roomy with lots of space for a family, it's full of character but with all mod cons ( strong wi-fi, dishwasher, smart TV etc). The weather turned a bit nasty for our last couple of days but we lit the wood burner (which made the place even cosier than it already was) and watched some movies, such a relaxing break. If you don't want to use the wood burner there is plenty of heating throughout. There was a washing machine in the bathroom and the host even provided some soap capsules to use, there was lots of tea and coffee in the kitchen and a fresh bottle of milk in the fridge for our arrival as well as a nice bottle of red wine and chocolates on one of two dining tables. I can't recommend this cottage enough, we really enjoyed our stay here.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Garden Cottage at Kidwelly.

The Cottage locates at a private estate which is sounded by natural woodlands, green fields, Orchard, and well-maintained beautiful gardens. The whole estate is absolutely a hidden gem with its uniqueness, beauty and peace. The Cottage is clean and well facilitated. It has many old features and characters. The garden is mature, large and beautiful. Our dogs enjoyed exploring and spending their times in the garden. The cottage offered everything we needed. Edwin, the owner is very helpful and thoughtful. We had lovely and unforgettable time at The Garden Cottage. We high recommend the cottage to the people who love nature and countryside, and who want to explore the history, seaside and the natural beauty of the West Wales.
