What our customers say about their holidays

    • Angus - Verified booking

      Yes, 'Met Expectations' but.

.. For the price (economic, ie about £100 p/n) the standard was mostly good, so no complaints there, but the 'write up' was rather 'over-the-top' - described as 'luxurious' - well not quite, eg I'd like a more comfortable bed for 'luxurious' and the 'platter of delicious local produce' consisted of a Higates flapjack made in Wasall and two Lichfields products - digestives and 'highland shorties' - from Northants. Not exactly 'local'! Didn't eat any of it - but the 'delicious may be a bit over the top too. Better to not mention them. In similar vein, the views were described as 'outstanding' - well, they were pleasant enough - a couple of fields with sheep, not exactly 'outstanding' especially in an area where there are indeed so many truly outstanding views. Strange that, although bed linen and towels were included, there was no tea towel. It was explained that this was because so many tea towels were 'stolen' by previous guests. My advice - just add £5 to the o/n price and buy in a load of Lakes tea towels and invite guests to take it away with them, if they wish, as a souvenir - compliments of the owners. One final thing - about being 'welcoming' - I did not read on the site I booked through (snaptrip.com) about not checking in before 4pm although I may have overlooked it but we did follow the advice to phone and let the owners know our ETA. Bit surprised that my wife was told to 'wait' while lady's husband was consulted before agreeing to our arrival at 3pm. When we arrived - after a 5 hour drive - at 10 minutes to 3pm, the entry gate was locked. It could have/should have been open for us - but perhaps the owners wanted to give us a message? Not the way to 'welcome' guests! By-the-by, with winter approachng and clocks going back an hour at the end of this month, if guests are not 'welcome' before 4pm, they will be arriving more or less in the dark. Surely, even with Covid ceansing, there is time from 10 am (departure time) to 3pm - 5 hours - to thoroughly clean and sanitise correctly.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this beautifully decorated holiday cottage.

The interior was both trendy and cosy, making it the perfect retreat. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom was lovely – just what we needed to unwind after exploring the stunning surroundings. The location was ideal, easy to access yet nestled in a peaceful and picturesque area. A lovely touch was the thoughtful welcome gift of rosé prosecco and scones, which made us feel so special upon arrival. One small consideration: the cottage might not be the best fit for very tall guests. My boyfriend is 6’5” and bumped his head a few times on some of the lower beams and doorways. That said, we still thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found the charm of the cottage well worth it! The only other minor hiccup was the Wi-Fi, we couldn't get it to work on any of our devices or the TV, but we easily resolved it by using a hotspot and I am sure this is a fixable issue we just didn't bother raising it. This didn’t detract from our stay, though, as everything else was simply perfect. Annie, the host, was so friendly and accommodating, making us feel right at home. We’d definitely love to stay again and would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a cosy, stylish, and relaxing escape – just mind your head if you’re tall!

Nice central location for exploring the Lake District.

Parking the car and getting off the drive again is a nightmare, puts you off going again. Was very noisy in the accompanying flat, we were glad that the lady moved out on the Wednesday but loads of noise till late at night from the removal men also, spoilt the evening, although a lady from Skye’s had called to warn us beforehand. Nice bedroom, but no plug sockets any where near the mirror so I had to buy an extension lead so my wife could plug her hairdryer in. Bed not very comfortable, it’s like sleeping on a slope. Also to appeal to families there could be a sofa bed in the lounge. Kitchen facilities good, strange choice of crockery and cutlery though. Washing machine you need a degree in nuclear science to be able to use it, we eventually sussed out the microwave and cooker bit our washing got stuck in the machine for three days before we could figure out how to open the door! Would be brilliant for an elderly couple as bus stops are very close by, and they could use the free OAP bus passes to explore the Lakes. Car parking charges around the Lake District are extortionate and it costs 40p to use the toilets in many towns!

We had such a brilliant stay at Little Winder, the cottage was perfect for us and our little dog.

We enjoyed walks from the door step, (Including Athur’s Pike and Bonscale Pike) watched the red squirrels playing in the trees from the window and slept peacefully after days of hiking. The location and views from the cottages was superb. The cottage itself has a good sized entrance hall to take off your walking gear and a shared drying room next door to hang anything wet out on the heaters. The Amazon TV was great and we just logged into our Netflix in the evening or watched the free view channels from the comfy sofa. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook tea each night, there isn’t a freezer on its own just a small compartment in the fridge but we only needed ice so no issue for us. The bed was big and comfortable, the shower was compact but lovely and powerful and hot. There was a secure dog field to let the dog off the lead and have a good play. The hosts were brilliant, made sure we had everything we needed and left us a welcome gift which was such a nice touch. We would definitely stay again.

Overall very happy with our stay in this cottage.

The secludedness, peace tranquility, fantastic views and location of the cottage far outweigh any of the following, which I hope to be constructive criticism. Cottage would benefit from with a little updating and massive spring clean. It's only a 3 star so did not expect luxury but parts of it could've been cleaner, alot of cobwebs in kitchen corners, doorways, windows, edges of windows particularly velux in top bedroom which still had cracked glass with tape over. All that aside it was very well equipped (again some grubby utensils which we had to wash before use) with everything we needed in THE HEATWAVE week we were there. Couldn't get any hot water from kitchen tap or bathroom tap (luckily shower ok) so false economy as had to boil kettle to wash up. Bit too remote for us, long single track driveway tricky but did match description so we knew this. Again all this aside the positives are we had a great holiday stay, there were only 2 of us, ok for 4 but think would be a struggle with 6.
