What our customers say about their holidays

    • Tracy - Verified booking

Very well presented, well equipped little cottage in the Grizedale Forest.

Larger than expected so plenty of space for 2 adults and 2 medium dogs. Kitchen has everything you need (apart from an ice box as the per the listing but that wasn't really an issue - just an observation) - plenty of crockery, cutlery, cookware, etc ; toaster, kettle, microwave, dishwasher and washer dryer. Bathroom has a lovely shower but the bath isn't really usable as such due to the size and shape. We only used the master bedroom which has a very firm bed and pillows. Hard floors throughout which is ideal with dogs as we could but our throws down to catch muddy/wet feet and run Henry and a mop around each day to keep clean. Loads of walking on the doorstep - you can follow footpaths out to Lakeside, the East side of Coniston and around Grizedale and Furness. Bardsea Beach, Newby Bridge, Ambleside, Hawkshead, Tarn Hows and Coniston all within 30 minutes drive. Points to note : - the stairs are steep, narrow and painted so non-slip footwear is a good idea - there are no local shops (if you need milk, bread, veggies, etc) so take all you need or stock up on your travels

Lovely cottage with a pretty garden to sit out in.

Bigger than appears in the photos & very clean. Would happily stay here again. Few tiny things need attention - microwave turntable doesn’t turn & bathroom door upstairs is getting very sticky. We found the beds rather soft but know that is personal thing. The barbecue was tucked away under covers in the shed so not sure if that’s useable or not. No info on it in the welcome pack. Kitchen equipment was good but sharp knife could do with replacing & some larger saucepans or wok / higher sided frying pan would be handy for one pot meals. There were only 2 of us so kitchen / diner worked well but might be a bit tight for 4 if all moving around at the same time. WiFi was fine but signal for an EE phone was patchy in the house. Vodafone was fine. Excellent location for accessing the Southern Lakes, Arnside & the Cumbrian coast. Had a lovely short walk on Humphrey Head for brilliant views of Morecambe Bay. It is in a village & there is a little road noise & cockerels locally so not for those seeking isolation! Happily recommend this property. We had a brilliant holiday.

We had a lovely stay at the Turn Cottage, really enjoyed our holiday there!

Pros: -location is very good, no noise from neighbours - very relaxing holiday! -cottage is very well decorated and equipped -bed is incredible, very comfortable -owner is very responsive if you have any questions -the owners have prepared a very detailed user book, with all the information you need (from what to do to check out, places to visit around and how to use the appliance) - Kitchen, bedroom and bathroom were very clean. Cons: -quite far from shops, roads are quite small around the cottage -parking wasn't clear to us - I would strongly suggest adding a diagram to explain in more details how to park in the shared courtyard -cottage was generally clean, but there were dust and (dog?) hairs on the floor / sofa in the living room - hence the rating. -there is quite a strong dog smell in the cottage, which might bother you if you don't have a dog/don't like the smell. The owner likely tried to remove the smell before we arrived as the smell was not as strong at the beginning, but it did come back over the days even though we do not have a dog.

The cottage was quite remote, and I don't feel this was made obvious on the information.

It tells you it's in a village, it's not. It is a tiny hamlet. The cottage itself has very recently been converted so is new. The bedrooms are excellent as is the bathroom and kitchen. But the living area for us was too cluttered and small, and this spoiled it for us somewhat because we like to settle down in evenings either watching a film or reading. It didn't have that cosy feel. Also parking if all 3 adjoining cottages are in use isn't easy. The small entrance makes driving in to the parking area a little difficult if you have a larger car. We have a Honda CRV and needed to bring in the wing mirrors every time. Anything wider and you wouldn't be able to get through. We also didn't feel there was any privacy from the other cottages if you wanted to sit out. The pub which is in the hamlet and 1 minute walk away is excellent however. Friendly staff and excellent food. Sadly we wouldn't return as the drive to the cottage every day is a little too much off the beaten track for us. For others I realise it's not an issue.

Great location, lovely garden, comfy beds and great bed linen.

However, generally, the cottage could do with some paint and both bathrooms would benefit from extractor fans which could be fitted in the glass, as clearly the walls are too thick. We did open the windows when using the shower, but the obviously mouldy walls, particularly in the downstairs shower room were unpleasant to see. Our main issue is the kitchen. The roller blind at the window was presumably broken as it was taped up. The wooden worktops were frankly disgusting….a gluey surface which things stuck to and you felt were never clean. The oven wasn’t clean and apart from the grill pan we could not find a simple baking sheet to use. We had to wash every pan, as some had food adhered to them. In fact I hand washed or dishwasher cleaned everything before we used it! All used linen which we were instructed to put in the yellow bags under the stairs, had to be left on the floor in the bedrooms as the yellow bags under the stairs were stuffed full and I had no intention of investigating the contents!!
